F1 The Movie Film SPOILER FREE Film Review
Sports movies are all the range these days with there being movies for baseball football both American and actual football and even wrestling. Yet there's shockingly been not that many about Formula One racing with the only other two films being called Grand Prix and Rush well now there's another film to add to that list with the film that i'm going to be talking to you about today being just as good as the critics are all saying that it is and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FREE review of the film that sees Brad Pitt drive a car really fast around a race track with the film in question being called simply just "F1 The Movie" enjoy.
The plot of this movie is a retired Formula One racecar driver comes out of a retirement to help a team that's on the brink of being sold where he also bonds with the teams best driver. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of this film being alot more better then what it really had any right to be as by all rights this films plot should have been a very cut and dry and very generic plot where you know the outcome from the very beginning but because of the fact that this film is an underdog story it does make the plot of the film feel alot more unpredictable then what it actually is as this films plot does borrow plot elements from another very similar movie which will be getting talked about later in this review but at the same time tho those elements do work really well in this film not so much that you forgive the makers of this film for copying another films idea but to the point where that idea does start to become new and different again with the only thing that does let own the films plot being the fact that it does at times feel like it's being rather underdeveloped and pushed to side in order to fit in all of the race car footage that was shot for this movie but when this film does indeed focus in on it's plot it is a really interesting plot with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is one of this films producers Brad Pitt as Sonny Hayes and Damson Idris as Joshua Pearce. Also starring in this film is Kerry Condon as Kate McKenna , Tobias Menzies as Peter Banning , Kim Bodnia as Kaspar Smolinski , Shea Whigham as Chip Hart , Will Merrick as Nickleby , Joseph Balderrama as Rico Fazio , Sarah Niles as Bernadette Pearce , Samson Kayo as Cashman , Abdul Salis as Dodge , Doctor Who star Callie Cooke as Jodie , Layne Harper as Press , Luciano Bacheta as Luca Cortez and Javier Bardem as Ruben Cervantes.
Now then interms of what I personally tought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances in this film which is something that isn't really all that surprising given the fact that alot of this films actors are a bunch of unknown actors and therefor it could have been quite foolish to expect alot of good or even great performances from them but no every single one of this films actors really do knock it out of the park even those actors that are just playing smaller roles still do manage to turn better performances then what was really required of them with the true stand out performer in this film being quite hard to say as while yes it would have been quite obvious to say that Brad Pitt is the films best actor as he's one of if not the most well known actor in the world but for this film it has to be Kerry Condon as Kate McKenna as we do get to see some actual progression with her character which is done through her acting with her going from hating Sonny's guts to being something more then that when the film ends and alot of that is not done through lies of dialog but rather through the characters actions and facial expressions with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally something which does really help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Clear Angle Studios , Framestore , Industrial Light & Magic , Lola Visual Effects , Metaphysic and Red Visual Effects. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with it being quite hard to tell what was done for real and was done in a computer alot of the time as alot of the inside the car shots do look like that there were done for real but at the same time tho there are some quite obvious effects to be found in this film like alot of the explosions do look a little bit to fake and while the inside of the car shots might have been done for real what wasn't is the reflections from the cars as for obvious reasons your not going to have your main stars driving a really fast car in a real Formula One race with those effects actually looking pretty good which is something that does make alot of sense as you don't get alot of time to really focus on them as they just go by so fast but when the film does do an obvious CGI effect like fire for example or even when a car crashes it is something that does standout as that's just how good the rest of this films effects are and while the effects for the crashes do look really good for the most part as is also the case for alot of this films effects those crashes just come off looking weaker because of the fact that the rest of this films effects are just so good in the first place with it being very clear that all of the effects companies that worked on this film put alot of time and effort into all of their effects and while some of them do come of as being weaker then others that's something that's not limited to this film as that's something that could be said about any effects heavy film as well.
This is where there might be some very mild spoilers because as was mentioned this film does borrow plot elements from another racing car film with that film being none other then Cars 3. As both films have a raver who is either retired or is a veteran race car driver either get pulled back into the sport that they love or get pushed aside by the next generation for wanting to do things old school either way they both end up mentoring a young member of their team and while that might be a coincidence it just seems like to much of a similarity for it to be anything but that and while that kind of set up for a film is one that's as old as time itself as heck even the first Cars film had a very similar set up to what Car 3 had it is something that dies make you wonder tho why out of all of the racing movies that you could have chose to rip off why did the makers of this film choose a film from the Cars franchise as you could have chose plot elements from quite literally any other sports movie and applied them to this movie and it would have worked and yet the makers of this film chose to use ideas that were done just as well in a kids animated movie which just makes no sense whatsoever but to this films credit those idea do fit in alot more better in this film then they did in either Cars or Cars 3 as Formula One is an actual sport and is one of if not the best known car racing sport in the world and therefor it would make sense to have a retired car racer come in to help out this struggling team and to mentor there best driver as that is something that could possibly happen in the world world sport as well where as in Cars there sport is mostly NASCAR and that's really it and even then they might have made up some of the rules of the sport to fit there movie where as here they didn't do any of that.
There will be no more mild spoilers from here on out with the one thing that the makers of this film shockingly went out of their way to do was to actually film alot of real. Formula One races. With the makers of this film filming alot of the races from the 2023 Formula One racing season which is something that does add that extra touch of authenticity to the film as it means that the film did have access to all of these pit crews and all of these cars that you wouldn't be able to get just by making it up as you went along which is something that does help to make the film feel alot more real as you do get to see alot of the tracks from that racing season and you do get to see the pit crews act how they would normally act and where as with Fighting With My Family where filming at actual WWE events actually created continuity errors with the sets that would have been used at the time here that doesn't become an issue as the tracks do look the same so you can pass it off as having the film take place in this year and it would totally make sense even if the makers of this film had to also film some races in the 2024 season to make up for any of the races that they couldn't film in the 2023 season and while only the the most ardent of Formula One fans would be able to spot if the correct racer is with the correct team or if the correct races happen in the correct order for the most part having filmed those races for real does go to show you that if you go the extra mile and film a real sport then it will always add that extra special something to the film as it does show us the audience just how far that the makers of this film were willing to go to get the best representation of the sport that there trying to depict in this film with that being something that does pay off in spades in this very film.
While this film does have alot of really good things in it it does also have some bad things in it as well like for example the film makes Sonny out to be this perfect character whose flaws are only talked about but never shown and because of that his character does come across as being quite dull and boring as alot of the other team characters just trust him an go with whatever he says for no apparent reason whatsoever. With the other major thing that doesn't really work all that well in this film is the fact they Joshua and Sonny's friendship does come out of nowhere as one minuet there at each other's throats and then in the very next scene there acting like there best friends with nothing inbetween that sets that up and as Sonny is meant to be his mentor it would have really helped the film out quite alot if the makers of this film did dedicate alot of there really long running time int' making there bond and friendship feel a bit more organic and natural as while the two actors have some really good chemistry with each other the characters just don't work and alot of that does come down to the fact that there relationship isn't given the time that it needed to be fully developed and yet it's their bond that's meant to be key for there team to win a race and yet the makers of this film treat it like it's an afterthought when it instead should have been something that was given alot more thought and attention with the same thing also being true for Sonny's flaws as well as while it's all well and good for the makers of the film to tell us that he's had these issues but it would have worked even more if they actually showed us those issues as then we the audience can emphasize with the character alot more as we would be able to see the struggle that he's going through thus making him more of a likable character then what he already is.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twenty seven minuets and twenty eight seconds. Which given the fact that one of this films producers is Jerry Bruckheimer it does make sense that this film is that long as alot of his films are nearly always well over two hours long with this film even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time however this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely either as the plot of the film isn't as well developed as it really could have been with it appearing as if things are just happening for no reason with it being made painfully clear that the makers of this film put alot more thought and effort into there racing footage then they did into making a well thought out plot like with the same thing also being true for the films characters as well as the films characters aren't that well thought out either with alot of them just being very note characters and the rest of them not even having that much to do and are only there because of the fact that the films team needed them there and that's really it with really the only somewhat interesting character in the whole film not even being Brad Pitt's Sonny character but the Joshua Pearce character as he's this young rookie who is just into racing because of the fact that it can make him lots of money and make him famous and not for the love of it with his character being the only character to get a character arc in the whole entire movie which even then it's not that interesting of an arc despite the fact that he does have something interesting happen to him which won't be spoiled here as it's a massive spoiler but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a drama tat really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As the racing scenes are done really well with them being really tense much like how the flying scenes in Top Gun: Maverick were done with the racing scenes in this film being handled really well and being filled to the brim with drama as we the audience know what's at stake for this team if they don't win one single race during the rest of the racing season and because of that when the character do go through something quite dramatic during one of these racing scenes it really does make it all the more dramatic because of the fact that the makers of this film have made all of it's characters some really likable characters however the film does also add some really pointless drama in the films third act where something happens to something that the team have been working on and now there really up against it which just doesn't work as it does come out of nowhere and is resolved within a few minuets which makes it all the more pointless as the film already had all of the drama that it really needed just by the fact that we are now in the final race and the team still hasn't managed to win one single race ad therefor adding more drama on top of all of that just felt like overkill and like the makers of this film were just trying to give this one character something to do when just having them be at the race would made more sense for there character with th rest of the films drama being just as good and just as well handled as it was during the films truly tense third act in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall if you love Formula One then you'll love this film as the makers of this film really do that sport and the sport of racing as a whole justice as they don't shy away from the harsh realities of the sport but at the same time they also know what it is about the sport that people love in the first place with the film itself just being a really good film in it's own right and one that is sure to please alot of people both young and old alike in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official PIXAR fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
