The Three Stooges Film Review

There alot of films released every single year and sadly not all of them are memorable films with alot of them being really forgettable at best. As is the case with the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today as even tho it's based off of one of the most influential comedy acts in decades and is directed by Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly who directed Dumb And Dumber and it's sequel and yet it still ended up a film that not alot of people remember and so then join me as I review the film that saw three classic stooges enter the modern day with the film in question being called simply just "The Three Stooges" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when the orphanage that they grew up in is threatened with closure Moe , Larry and Curly set about raising the money that they need to save the orphanage once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the problem as the plot of this film isn't all that good either as it doesn't really capture the chaotic and anarchic nature of the original shorts and instead chooses to go with the basic plot that they could come in and when you add in the fact that the stooges also have to prevent a murder plot from happening it is something that does make this film plot feel like it's trying to hard to be a decent plot instead of just going all in on the anarchy and just being fun which is a shame because there moments of fun seen all throughout this film and it's during those moments that the film feels true to it's source material instead of just trying to hard to be good which is something that it does spend alot of time doing and when it does that this films plot just comes across as being really generic as well with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe Howard , Sean Hayes as Larry Fine and Will Sasso as Curly Howard. Also starring in this film is Jane Lynch as Mother Superior , Sofía Vergara as Lydia Harter , Jennifer Hudson as Sister Rosemary , Craig Bierko as Mac Mioski , Stephen Collins as Mr. Harter , Larry David as Sister Mary-Mengele , Marianne Leone as Sister Rica , Kirby Heyborne as Theodore J. "Teddy" Harter , Emy Coligado as Ling , Avalon Robbins as Murph Harter , Max Charles as Peezer Harter , Reid Meadows as Weezer Harter , Brian Doyle-Murray as Monsignor Ratliffe , Lin Shaye as Nursery Nurse , Caitlin Colford as Katilyn , Carly Craig as Mrs. Harter , Kate Upton as Sister Bernice , Marianne Leone as Sister Ricarda , Dwight Howard as himself , Samantha "Sweetheart" Giancola as herself , Ronnie Ortiz-Magro as himself , Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino as himself , Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi as herself and Jennifer "JWoww" Farley as herself.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well the in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As the actors that are playing Moe , Larry and Curly are really good in this film the issue is tho is that there only ones trying to put in a good performance in this film as all of this films actors either are just phoning in there performance like with Sofía Vergara who we know can act and be funny thanks to Modern Family but here she's is quite clearly phoning in her performance and is barely even trying to turn in a good performance with the Jersey Shore cast being dreadful actors at best and downright terrible at worst however this is something that does make sense as none of them were trained actors and where quite clearly only hired because of the fact that Jersey Shore was popular and that's really it and Jane Lynch who can act and does turn in a passable performance in this film isn't in it long enough to leave a lasting impression on this film with the acting that's in this very film not really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does effect the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

One of this films biggest weaknesses is it's characters as even tho the stooges themselves are relatively well done and well presented. It's the films side characters that let the film down quite a bit as none of them are given alot of time shine with alot of them just straight up having one or two scenes to get across what there character with nothing about there character actually effecting the plot of the film where as with the stooges as all three of them are dumber then a bag of rocks which does make them the best characters of the movie as you never really know just what it is that your going to be getting with those characters where as with literally any of the side characters you know right away what your going to be getting as all of there scenes play out the same way with it not really being helped by the fact that all of this films characters are just being characters that don't have an actual personality going for them with the same thing not even true for the stooges as any of the stooges could have any of the other stooges lines in this film and it would still be just as unfunny as it is in the final cut of the film where as if you watch literally any of the other Three Stooges shorts they all have very distinct personalities all of which could have been translated to this film with Moe being the leader of the group who is tough but fair , Larry being the brains of the group and Curly just being a lovable goofball but because all of them are treated as being the dumb one of the group in this film none of those character traits from the other short films come across in this film.

In what could be seen as being a really strange approach to the film this film breaks up it's three acts into three episodes. Which does serve to mimic the original shorts format whilst still telling an overall narrative this is something that does work but at the same time tho the film really doesn't go all the way with that idea like how fun would it have been to have the stooges each have a different job at the start of each act or by having them interact with different side characters both of which would have worked as it would played into the shorts format that each of these episodes are trying to replicate and yet they don't go all the way with it and because of that it feels like something that was more of an afterthought which does make some sense but at the same time tho if your going to be something that's this different and are trying to replicate something that alt of comedy fans love with these characters then you owe it to those fans to go all the way with that idea instead of only going half way as all that does is make it feel like an undercooked idea and that is something that the film is full to the brim of as the film has the stooges break up and go there separate ways but a few scenes later there back together again with nothing having changed between them which makes the break scene pointless even tho it really only serves as a way to get the Jersey Shore actors into the film when having them break up should be the main focus point of that scene and we really should see the stooges learn and grow from not having Moe with them to guide them which is something that would have added an element of depth to all of there characters.

Speaking of the Jersey Shore actors why were they in this movie yes Jersey Shore was popular when this movie was being made. However here's the thing this movie is a kids movie and Jersey Shore is for teens and adults so no kid is going to know who these people are because no kid is going to be staying up late to watch there surely getting someone that the kids would recognize would make alot more sense as then the film could have had alot more fun with whoever it is that they get to cameo in this film but by having the Jersey Shore actors in this movie you run into two problems the first which being that none of them can act and the second of which is trying to replicate an episode of Jersey Shore in a kids movie which was never going work as that shore is made for a more mature audience where as this movie is made for less mature audience heck even having someone like Vin Diesel or John Cena would make alot more sense as the Fast And Furious movies were still quite popular at the time and John Cena was and still is very popular with kids and that way you could have alot more fun with those actors as those actors are so over the top in the first place that it would have been really easy for the makers of this film to have them interact with any of the stooges in fun and really creative ways and not just have badly acted scenes with the stars from a really adult show or heck why not get the actors from Modern Family to make cameo roles since they already have Sofía Vergara and they could have her play both her characters in this movie and herself as well which would have been a really funny to sight to see as well.

For some strange reason the makers of this film thought it was a good idea to have a murder plot in this family friendly movie. With the murder plot itself not really working due to the fact that not only are the stooges themselves already pretty dumb but so are the people that hire them in the first place but also because of the fact that the actors playing them are trying to get laughs when they should be really hamming it up and just having fun being the villain and yet because of the fact there actively trying to get laughs and be funny all that does is make the characters look dumb heck even Sofia Vergara's characters even pretty much throws her own lover into a lion den without knowing it for no reason which is something that would work well enough for the stooges as there are meant to be dumb but for someone who has been presented to as being quite smart and willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants having her suddenly be a dumb character doesn't work for her character which wouldn't be that bad of a thing if she at least got some laughs either way but she doesn't this is despite the fact that Sofia Vergara does know how to get a laugh out of people and heck the makers of the film could have done by having her character trying to seduce the stooges but they turn her down not understanding what she wanted them to do only for this to drive her crazy and become a running joke all throughout the film which granted might be that funny but it's better then what they do with her character in the final cut of the film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty two minuets and our seconds. Which is pretty much the exact grand total running time that you'd expect a film like this one to have and to this films credit it really does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time and while the film does kind of use it's running time by giving us some backstory to the stooges and by giving Moe a subplot of sorts about him not wanting to leave his brothers when he gets chosen for adaption and they don't the issue is tho is that we don't get to find out anything about any of this films characters be there good guys or bad guys and as a result of that is the fact that it really does make it hard for us the audience to actually care about the characters outside of the fact that we're meant to cheer for the good guys and boo the bad guys and that's not enough to make them good characters let alone ones that we the audience can form some form of a connection with and granted it would have been hard for the film to give us a reason to care for all of it's characters giving it's incredibly short running time but it's not impossible and given that the same people that made this movie also made Dumb And Dumber it is something that they know how to do and do well as well and yet because of the fact that the makers of this chose not to do that all we are left is a bunch of characters that we don't really care all that much about in the first place but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very review well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very review was in all honesty not that bad. As it's in this films comedy that it really does feel like a Three Stooges movie as that's when the film gets to be as zany and as crazy as it really good and while the cameos from the Jersey Shore actors really do age this film it's when the film gets to it's slapstick comedy routes that the film gets to be fun with the characters really going as over the top as you can get with the slapstick in a kids family friendly comedy movie and that is something that the Stooges themselves would have most likely have done as they did alot of slapstick comedy as well and even the fact that the stooges themselves are meant to be pretty dumb it never comes across as being main spirited instead it comes across as we're laughing with them and not at them with it being helped by the fact all three of the actors playing the stooges do a really good job in their roles and are just naturally funny in there own right with it always being fun seeing just how over the top and how creative that the characters get with the violence in this film and while yes the film does tell some bad slapstick jokes as well those are very few and far between with the film having alot more good jokes in it then it does bad ones in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this film really isn't as memorable as it really could have been especially given the subject matter of the film it is also alot better then what it really could have been as well as this is film that very easily could have relied to much on the nostalgia for the characters of Moe , Larry and Curly and not do anything to get younger audiences interested in seeing some of the original shorts and while the kids who first saw this film when it was first released really might not be interested in seeing the original shorts this was still a pretty average film in it's own right in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5 our of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Female Villains fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great Google Images are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
