The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie SPOILER FREE Film Review
The Looney Tunes despite being some of the most popular characters in animation history have been having a really hard time as of late. With seemingly all of the films that they had in development either being cancelled or being shopped around to other networks or in this case other distribution companies and so then join me as i give you my SPOILER FREE review of the film that is the first ever fully animated Looney Tunes movie that really tells one complete story to be released on the big screen with the film in question being called simply just "The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when the earth is threatened by an alien invasion it's up to Bubble Gum factory workers Porky Pig , Petunia Pig and Daffy Duck to save the world. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot basically being a kid friendly horror movie with the Looney Tunes characters and that is something that makes what could have been as being a rally generic plot seem fresh and new again as we get to see just how both Porky and Daffy would handle this kind of situation with this films plot being alot better then what it really had any right to be as this is plot that very easily could have come across as trying to hard to be fun and end up not being that fun at all but because of the fact that it's being made by people who do have a clear love and passion for the Looney Tunes brand this is a plot that does work and is alot of fun to watch with this films plot being alot better then either of the Space Jam plots as this films plot just allows the characters to be themselves and because of that we do get a really fun filled plot in this film with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Eric Bauza as Daffy Duck and Porky Pig and Candi Milo as Petunia Pig and An Old Lady. Also starring in this film is Peter MacNicol as The Invader , Fred Tatasciore as Farmer Jim and The Scientist , Laraine Newman as Mrs. Grecht , Wayne Knight as The Mayor , Ruth Clampett as Waitress Maude , Andrew Kishino as The Floor Manager , Kimberly Brooks as The Coffee Shop Customer and Spaceship Computer Voice , Keith Ferguson as Chewy , Carlos Alazraqui as The News Anchor and Gary , Rachel Butera as The Town Kid , this films director , co-writer and executive producer Pete Browngardt as The Bully and Roofer Joe and Nick Simotas as The Flavor Scientist Male and The Theater Audience Guy.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances in this very film and while Eric Bauza does a decent enough job of playing Parky Pig no one is going to ever top Bob Bergen as he just simply is the voice of the character this is despite the fact that Eric Bauza has previously played the character in other films and commercials and while his Porky voice is good it's his Daffy voice that's better as he really does manage to capture both the Looney side of the character and the more ego centric of the character just in his voice alone where as with Porky it kind of feels like he just doing an impression of Bob Bergen and isn't really putting his own spin on the voice with the rest of this films actors also turning in some really good performances as well which given just who is starring in this film isn't rally all that shocking as alot of this films actors are a bunch of really good in there own right with this films acting really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the animation for this film is Tonic DNA , Snipple Animation and the legenda and the greats that are currently over at Titmouse, Inc.. Now the interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films animation being alot better then what it really had any right to be as this film was meant to he a direct to streaming movie and as a result of that is the fact that nobody would have blamed the companies that did the animation for this film chose not to give this film there best animation but holy hell is there something special here as all of the characters have some really fluid movements to them and all of the backgrounds are rich in detail with this films animation feeling like that it was ripped right out of the nineteen forties and places in a modern day movie as it's just that good and that is something that you just don't see not only in movies but in modern movies anymore as there all to focused on trying to do what's popular instead of recapturing the look and feel of what it was that made there respective characters popular in the first place and because of that fact this films animation is truly something to behold with this film being worth seeing on the big screen just for the animation alone as this films animation really is just all that good in it's own right.
Incase there are some people that don't know this is film is meant to be a spin off of the Looney Tunes Cartoons TV series. However given the very episodic nature of that show you don't need to have watched a single short from that series in order to fully understand what's going on in this movie as all of that is explained away at the start of the movie with really only thing that's being carried over that show is the designs of the characters an that's really it and yet even tho that show was quite popular Warner Bros saw fit to cancel to this movie after it was already completed with it being a good few years of shopping the film around to other distributers that it was finally picked up by Ketchup Entertainment which does make this film a rare thing as it's the only main line Looney Tunes movie not to be distributed by Warner Bros Pictures this is despite the fact that we do get the Warner Bros Animation ident at the start of the movie and that Warner Bros Pictures have been promoting the movie but because of the fact that they sold of the distribution rights to the film there's a good chance that they won't be seeing much of the profits or at best will now be splitting the profits with Ketchup Entertainment where as if they had just chosen to release the film theatrically after cancelling both it's streaming release and it's TV release for one reason or another they would have been seeing alot more of a percentage of the profits and so in order to save themselves from loosing money they've now gone and done exactly that as this is a film that will make alot money just based off of the brand name alone and when you in the fact that lot of people who really love the Looney Tunes will want to see this movie it means that chances are we are in for a hit film.
There is one thing that doesn't really work with this movie and it's the one thing that can't be spoiled as it's a huge spoiler. With the film being interesting and funny up until a certain reveal happens and when that reveal does happen it's just a bad reveal as it's not only something that was hinted at possibly being a thing as it's just something that comes out of nowhere but everything that we've seen with this character including there design leads to the film going one way but when it turns out that it's actually going the less interesting that's when the film does become kind of boring as it's not something that adds to the plot of the film and nor does it add to the characters own personal character arcs either it's just something that's that for the sake of there being a plot twist and not because it's something that makes sense which would have been fine if they at least made it funny or if they did something interesting but they don't and they play it all completely straight and that's something that does make it worse and when your film has several writers working on it at any given time and one of those writers is not only your director and also one of your executive producers then it makes you wonder who gave the OK to that reveal being as a bad as it was as the film would have been just as fun if it kept on the path that it was on instead of throwing in a twist just for the sake of having one in there which just makes the writers of this film seem lazy and the director and executive producer lazy for not bothering to fix it something that he very easily could have done.
To give this film some credit outside of Porky and Daffy there are no other major Looney Tunes characters in this movie. With the film instead using the more lesser known character Petunia Pig which granted might seem a bit risky given the fact that she's not that really well known of a character with her only appearing in a handful of shorts in the thirties and forties and after that she was pretty much just a cameo character and yet it was only recently where she started to get bigger roles with her even having her own short on Looney Tunes Cartoons and here she's one of the lead characters something that wouldn't have been possible if they had alot more well known Looney Tunes characters which in all fairness they very easily could have done and yet it's this version of the character that is perhaps one of the best versions of the character as she's looney , smart and isn't afraid to go after what she wants where as in the original shorts she was basically just Porky in a dress and that was really it and in this film she gets to be apart of the more fun scenes of the film and if Warner Bros are smart then they'll expand on this version of the character as given the fact that this film is getting a theatrical release this is the version of the character that alot of people are going to remember the most with her character being helped by the fact that she and Porky are just adorable together in this movie with it being very easy to like both of these characters as not only do the two of them have great chemistry together but so do all of the main characters in this film as well.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty one minuets and five seconds. Which is pretty much the exact running time that you'd expect a film like this one to have and to this films credit it really does have the right amount of plot to really cover that amount of running time however tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely tho as the big plot twist which is meant to be a key plot point in the film just comes out of nowhere and gets rid of alot of the momentum that the film had going for it and the town that this film takes place in as well as Porky and Daffy's history together aren't that fully explored with the town just coming across as a generic town and the backstory for Porky and Daffy being just lose enough so that the makers of this film can add anything to it instead of making it interesting enough that you don't need to add anything to it but to give this film some credit it's more emotional scenes are really well done with the makers of this film even taking the time to let those more emotional and drama driven scenes just sit with us the audience instead of just moving past them quicky by ending the scene with a joke that would have undercut the moment as a whole and this is something that alot of kids animated films are afraid to do and because of that this film whilst it doesn't quite earn it's PG rating does feel alot more mature then what it really should have done but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual a comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film being laugh out loud as that's just how funny alot of this films jokes are with nearly all of this films jokes landing as well and while yes there will be some jokes that don't land as hard as others do the ones that do land tho will have people laughing out loud and it's those kinds of jokes that proves that not only can the Looney Tunes still be funny but that they can also be really funny in a feature film format something that both Looney Tunes: Back In Action and indeed Space Jam: A New Legacy failed to show us and yet this little film which Warner Bros themselves had very little faith in this is the one that gets the Looney Tunes humor right for the big screen and while yes we should all go and see this film just for the animation alone we should also all go and see it for the jokes as well as these are some of the funniest jokes that have come out of the Looney Tunes brand for some time with the thing that makes these jokes work is the fact that they feel like that there very true to the characters and as a result of that is the fact that this films jokes do feel very character driven and while Porky and Daffy do indeed get some really funny jokes in this film it's Petunia who gets some of the better jokes of this film just by being her looney self and because of that the jokes that this films version of her has are some really funny jokes in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall if you not only want to see Coyote vs Acme get released but also want to see a really good and funny Looney Tunes movie then go and see this movie and prove to Warner Bros that there is still life left in this Looney brand as that's something that they not only need to learn but it's also something that this film shows us as well as this film is just that good of a film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad thigs that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Looney Tunes fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Looney Tunes fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official Looney Tunes fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official Looney Tunes fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
