Captain America: Brave New World Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review
Believe it or not there once was a time when Marvel Studios would constantly turn out good film after good film and yet now it seems to be the opposite that's true. With them turning out more bad films and only a handful of actually good films with alot of Phase 5 being a good example and well they've just released another film and you all just knew that I had to check this film out the very first chance that I got and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that makes someone who really should have stayed a side character the main character with the film in question being called simply just "Captain America: Brave New World" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when his friend is hypnotized and tricked into almost killing the president of the United States it's up to Sam Wilson to find out who is really behind this crime and stop him once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho this films plot really could have been alot more better then what it actually was as there's nothing all that interesting about this films plot with it just feeling like an extended episode of The Falcon And The Winter Solider only done on the big screen and that's really it but when this films plot does get interesting then it does lead to some really good scenes out of it but you have to sit through alot more bad scenes where nothing about the films plot is not only not being advanced but is just not that interesting to see at all and when you take into account that this film had some very extensive re-shoots it does say that the makers of this film knew full well that this films plot was never going to be that good and yet they still chose to release it anyway with the plot of this film not even being really rather entertaining and nor is it really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is one of this films executive producers Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Captain America and Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres / Falcon. Also starring in this film is Shira Haas as Ruth Bat-Seraph , Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley , Xosha Roquemore as Leila Taylor , Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Copperhead , Giancarlo Esposito as Seth Voelker / Sidewinder , Liv Tyler as Betty Ross , Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns / Leader and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross / Red Hulk.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With the actors that you expect a good performance giving us the kind of performance that you really would would expect them to give and that right there is part of the problem as it's the exact performance that you'd expect from those actors with nothing new added to them and as a result of that is that even tho those actors do indeed turn i some really good performances in this very film there also really boring performances as you know right away just how there going to act in any given situation but credit where it's due tho Tim Blake Nelson does very easily step right back into the role of Samuel Sterns very easily having played the role only once all the way back in 2008's The Incredible Hulk and Harrison Ford does a really good as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross as well which was to be expected given that he's a really good actor in his own right with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that thus films script is just so bad as it gives absolutely none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does let down the overall quality of acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Digital Domain , OPSIS , Outpost VFX , Universal Production Partners and Weta FX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in al honesty not that bad as this film does gave some really good VFX companies working on it but at the same time tho it's quite clearly not there best work as alot of this films VFX look really fake with alot of them just not looking like they were actually there on set and while Marvel doesn't have a really good reputation when it comes to working with effects houses that is something that does also appear to be the case with this film as alot of the bad VFX in this film could have been made to be really good if they were given more time to work on them and while yes granted Marvel has taken great strides in trying to improve there relationship with various effects teams there's just something about this films effects that make it look like that they were done when Marvel was having a really bad time with effects companies and while it did take Marvel a good few years to get The Hulk looking just right here they do come pretty close to getting The Red Hulk looking really good which given that they took years perfecting how to make a good looking version of The Hulk really couldn't have been an nice task to do in the characters first film.
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!
In what was both a shocking and not all that surprising move this film does make a few nods to The Incredible Hulk. With this film also referencing Eternals for the first time since that movie came out but that's also the problem as this movie is more focused on making nods and winks to other movies that it becomes distracting for us the audience and heck even the films cameo roles whilst they do fit the characters also seem like that there taking away from the film and the characters rather then adding to it as we get a cameo from Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and it could even be argues that Liv Taylor's role in this film is more of a cameo as even tho the character of Betty Ross is mentioned all the time all throughout the film she only appears for one very brief scene near the end of the film and that's really it and it makes you wonder why the makers of this film even bothered to put all this focus on referencing past Marvel movies as all except the Eternals one actually play a part in the plot of the movie with it being revealed in this film that the celestial being that was in the ocean of that film is now being fought over by several countries for it's resources and that's it and while that is a decent way to reference Eternals not alot of people straight up remember that there even was an Eternals movie so it makes it pointless to reference it when it would have made more sense given who is starring in this film to make more connections to The Incredible Hulk.
You all remember that scene in the trailer where we see Ross Hulk out and transform into Red Hulk that's at the end of the movie. With him spending alot of time just trying to deal with his anger issues which just isn't that interesting to see and while we do get a few good scenes out of it like when there on a ship and The Leader calls him up just to taunt him by saying that he could crush them all with his bare hands if he wanted to that is was a good scene but at the same time tho your not coming into this movie expecting to see Ross for alot of the films running time and heck it even would have made the film even more exciting if he did spend more time as Red Hulk as then he could see and experience what Bruce Banner went through every single time that he transformed into The Hulk but because it's Harrison Ford playing him the makers of this film really wanted to make sure that they got there money's worth and kept him Hulk free until the films final act and while the character of Red Hulk does indeed look good having him only appear on screen for such a short amount of time really does feel like a disservice to the character especially then you rake into account the film really could have had some fun with his character and not just have him sitting around and nothing largely nothing for the vast majority of the films running time which is what ends up happening here and while they most likely did have more Red Hulk in an earlier cut of the film due to the fact that this film went through pretty extensive re-shoots here he might as well just be really nothing more then an extended cameo in this very film.
For some strange reason this film just straight up drops Giancarlo Esposito's and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson's characters for literally no reason whatsoever. This wouldn't be that big of a deal if The Leader was any better in this movie and while granted he is done slightly better in this movie then he was back in The Incredible Hulk movie from 2008 it still feels like a huge step down interms of quality as at least with the two members of the Serpent Society that actually survived the re-shoots do seem like more interesting villains and could have made for interesting side villains that are working very closely with The Leader but for one reason or another the film just straight up drops both characters and doesn't replace them with anybody better all of which makes you wonder why they even bothered to keep two members of the group around in he first place if they were always going to drop them from the movie yes one of them is played by Giancarlo Esposito but that's not a really good enough reason to keep his character around if the plan always was to drop his character from the movie as yes you get another name for the poster big deal but you also get another wasted character that could have been done so much more better then what they were in the final cut of the film and what's really make this worse is the fact that technically Giancarlo Esposito's character does play a small role in the plot of the film as he is the one responsible for he;ping to get Isaiah Bradley essentially hypnotized in the first place.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one forty seven minuets and twenty seconds. Which for this film is such a short amount of time in order to tell it's story as this film really does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time and heck this film also could have been alot more longer then that as this film has more then enough plot to cover at the very least two hours without credits but yet for some strange reason the makers of this film thought that it was better t have this film come in at well under two hours which might have been done to fit in more screenings but what they don't realise is is that if your film is actually good and actually have the time that it needs to fully develop things like it's plot and characters neither of which get fully developed here then people will still come out in there droves to see the film regardless of how many screenings the film is a available at because the film would then be a good film but because of the fact that the film does have a really short running time and is alot more focused of referencing other movies then it is on developing it's own story then the film ends up not being that good of a film and because of that people won't most likely turn up to see this movie as why would they want to watch a bad movie when they can go and see a better movie but I will admit that this film really does have some really bad pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very was in all honesty not that bad. With this films action being the true highlight of the film as at the very least this films action was at the very least somewhat entertaining which is something that cannot be said for the rest of the film with the true highlight of this film action actually being something that was kind of in the trailer and that's the show down between Red Hulk and Sam which was an entertaining but brief fight scene as it was something that did show of the fact that this version of Red Hulk was just as mindless as his greener half once was and it also shows us that not even Sam can find a way to outwit something that he's proven to do to other enemies before now with a close second place being the sequence where both Sam and Joaquin have to destroy a bunch of enemy airplanes that are trying to get to Celestial Island which was a really fun filled action scene that did have some really cool moments in it but it lacked the punch of seeing Red Hulk on the big screen for the first time and that is something that makes the action scene with Red Hulk and Sam Wilson the better of the two action sequences in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall Sam Wilson really should stay as a minor character as that's were that character works best and putting him front and centre for this film really just highlights just how bad of a character that he is in not only this film but the MCU as a whole and that is something that could have been fixed with this film but it wasn't for some strange reason so I guess that Anthony Mackie should be the one to do better in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all pf the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Disney fandom wiki page , the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
