Captain America: The First Avenger Film Review

It's safe to say that right now the MCU isn't in the best of shapes with each of the movies being worse then the one that came before it minus one or two exceptions. However it wasn't always like that as there was a time when people actually looked forward and actually showed up to watch an MCU film and well I thought that i'd take a look at a film that I really haven't seen for well over ten years and so then join me as I review the film that introduces us to Marvels most patriotic super hero with the film in question being called simply just "Captain America: The First Avenger" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when he is told that he can't enlist to fight in World War 2 Steve Rogers gets selected for a programme that hopes to make him into the ultimate solider and has to stop the Red Skull from using a strange to device to aid the Nazis during the war. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of this film being alot better then what it really had any right to be as by all rights a plot like this ne really shouldn't work as it takes way to much time in getting Steve Rogers to wear a Captain America suit and spends little time on giving us a well thought out plot but it's those exact weaknesses that also prove to be it's strengths as the plot of this film is one that very easily could be seen as the plot of a war propaganda film and those don't typically have that well that thought out plots either which is something that is oddly fitting for this film given who it's main character is and it's something that does for the most part work in the films favor as it's telling a story that we really haven't seen played out before now but with all that being said this film is also on the weak side of things as well and is easily the MCU phase one film plot with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America and Tommy Lee Jones as Chester Phillips. Also starring in this film is Hayley Atwell as Margaret "Peggy" Carter , Sebastian Stan as James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes , Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark , Toby Jones as Arnim Zola , Derek Luke as Gabe Jones , Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury , Kenneth Choi as Jim Morita , Jenna Coleman as Connie , Natalie Dormer as Lorraine , JJ Feild as James Montgomery Falsworth , Richard Armitage as Heinz Kruger , Stanley Tucci as Abraham Erskine and Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt / Red Skull.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to is in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual actin that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As the actors that you do expect to deliver a really good performance give us exactly that but that's also the problem as it's the exact same kind of performance that you expect from these actors and really nothing more then that like for example when you cast Tommy Lee Jones as the head of an army bae you expect him to deliver a performance that makes his character out to be tough solider type f character who will look down on whoever the main character of the film is and that's exactly that kind of performance that he gives us in this very film and while there are indeed some really good acting in this film there's also alot more bad acting to be found in this film as well which is mainly due to the fact that this films producer and director Joe Johnston despite him having directed several movies before this film wasn't a trained director as he was an effects artist before going on to directing and he thus there for won't know how to get a good performance out of his actors because he never went to film school to learn how to become a good director with the acting that's in this very film also being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to rise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGIA for this film is Double Negative , Lola Visual Effects , Framestore , The Senate Visual Effects , Fuel VFX , Trixter , Look Effects , Whiskytree , Luma Pictures , RISE Visual Effects Studios and Method Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good for the time that this film was being made as while yes alot of this films effects could be seen as being dated by today's standard ten years ago they were seen as being really good visual effects with it being in this films CGI that director Joe Johnston feels more at home as he knows how to direct the visual effects better then he does his actors and that is something that really does shine through in the final film as it's hard to tell alot of the time what was real and what was made in computer and while yes this film does have some fairly hokey looking visual effects shots in it those don't represent the overall majority of this films CGI as they rather instead represent the minority of this films effects but with all of that being said tho the obviously CGI train does look laughable and is something that should have been fixed as it's part of a key scene in the film and is it odds with the rather impressive looking effects in the rest of the scene but even then the scene with Bucky falling still looks really bad even all of these years later.

What is a very common with all of the very early MCU films is the fact that all of the characters that your meant to like are really likable characters. With the same thing also being true for this film as well as every single character that your meant to liken you do end up liking in the end and all of the ones that your meant to hate you end up loathing due to how unlikable those characters are in the first place and while some characters go from unlikable to likable as the film progresses alot of them just remain either likable or unlikable which could be seen as the characters themselves being very cookie cutter characters that don't get much in the way of development it could also be argued that they don't really need to be developed all that much as the film itself is meant to be this fun filled film where you can just switch your brain off and just enjoy and there's nothing wrong with that but at the same time characters like Steve Rogers should at east be given a small character arc inn this film as his wider character arc takes place over several MCU films and it would still go quite a long way to making him feel like a more fleshed out character in this film if the makers of this film gave him a smaller character arc that whilst it doesn't effect him in the long run it does help to define at the very least a little bit in this film since in this film he just comes as being a very dull and boring character who's only personality and end goal is o join the army and that's really it and that's not what a character that's this iconic should deserve.

One of the few downsides to this film is film is the fact that it does seem like a big trailer for Avengers: Assemble. With both films even having the exact same object that they need to find in both films and heck this film even ends with a teaser trailer for The Avengers as well which granted is a pretty sweet way to get you excited for the next film but at the same time tho more of an effort should have been made to make this film feel more like a standalone film with them only having a few links to the other movies put in there and while this film does indeed really only have two links to the other films alot of what happens in this film really doesn't matter as at the end of the film neither side has the object and Cap ends up as a Capcicle which is just set up for the next movie and it goes against Steve's character as well as he openly states that he hates all bullies no matter what form that they take and and as a result of that is the fact that he should do everything within his power to make sure that the tesseract stays in American hands so that Hydra can't use it's power for their own evil gain and not get rid the very first chance that he gets and while granted they do explain why he pretty much had to get rid of it right away as the plan that was carrying it was about to crash and kill innocent people Cap should have thought of a way to get it off the plane as after all he never gives up something that we see at several points in the film and yet here he did exactly that.

Another thing that's wrong with this film is in it's main villain as while Red Skull is the perfect choice to be the villain of a solo Captain America film. It's how the film handles the character that causes an issue the film made him out to be bland and boring villain when they could have taken the time to really develop the character and this is an issue that;s not really exclusive to this film as barring one or two others it's an issue across the wider MCU as a whole as well as Marvel can't seem to make memorable villains and even when they do in the likes of Thanos they then forget how to do it in the very next film and while that's fine for lesser villains like Obadiah Stane who isn't that well known of a villain to begin with here tho it is something that really does start to take notice as Captain America really only has one villain from the comic books and it's Red Skull or at the very least he's the only one that's really well known and as a result of that the fact that this films writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely really should have tried to make him a really memorable villain instead of one that's going to be forgotten about five minuets after the film ends and while the character himself does have a clear end goal in mind and is very proactive in archiving that goal he's not that interesting of a character and a hero is only as good as the villain that he's facing and so if Red Skull is a dull and uninteresting character then that also makes Steve Roger and rather dull and uninteresting character as well when both characters should be good characters as they hv to outwit one another all throughout this films running time.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and four minuets and eleven seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstandard running time for all of these early MCU films and to this films credit it really does have the absolutely right amount of plot there to really over that amount of running time but at the same time tho it's a film that really doesn't take as full advantage of it's running time as you'd want it to as even tho we the audience get to spend alot of time with Steve Rogers even before he gets the super solider serum and yet we still don't get to find out all that much about him and if your going to take that much time in showing us what Steve Rogers was like before he became Captain America then at the very least tell us something about his character and make us want to care for him not because he's the main hero of the film but because he's a good character and the same thing goes for Red Skull as well as even tho we spend alot of time with his character we don't get to find out all that much about him either and as a result of that is the fact that both of those characters and the plot of the film come across as being really underdeveloped as the film tells us nothing about wither character and because we spend quite alot of time with Steve Rogers the plot of the film can't be as fully developed as it could have been and all of this could have fixed if the film was even just ten minuets longer as that would then allow for all three of those issues to be fixed but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With it being this films action that really does make this film come alive as without it the film could come across as being quite a dull film to watch but yet because of the fact that this film does have some really good looking action sequences in it all of which really are filled to the brim with some really cool moments in them it also has the add of effect of making this film alot more exciting then what it really should have been with the best action scene in this film whole entire film being the one where Steve and couple of men go to rescue Bucky and his unit which is just such a cool sequence as not only do you have heroics with Steve acting as the groups leader but you also get a good dose of humor and heart as well with Steve and Bucky reuniting after not seeing each other for a good few years and all of ti comes together just so well that it really does make that action scene the best action sequence in whole entire and when the film really is filled to the brim with great action scenes it really does take that extra special something to make this one stand out and that's exactly what this action sequence really does gave in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this film might be one of the weaker MCU Phase One films it is still a really enjoyable film in it's own right and while this is a film that is better left forgotten as outside of Cap and Bucky's origin story you don't really need to see this film to enjoy the rest of the MCU despite this film really showing moments of being a really rather entertaining film in it's own right in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as being all of the bad things that re n this very film in this very review and a such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as being ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very film from the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
