Venom: Let There Be Carnage Film Review
With comic book movies seeing a slight decline in quality it would be forgivable if someone did forget that there was a new comic book movies coming out this Friday. As the only installment in the Sony's Spider-Man Universe to actually not only be successful at the box office but also be a really good film in it's own right is getting it's third entry coming on Friday and as a result of that is the fact that it only made sense that the tie in review be the second film in this franchise be the one that gets reviewed and so then join me as I review the film that is to date the only successful Sony's Spider-Man Universe film with the film in question being called simply just "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when convicted murderer Cletus Kasady escapes from prison and goes looking for Eddie Brock it's up to Eddie and Venom to defeat him before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time tho the plot of this film isn't all that good either as this films plot is a bit on the weak side of things with the film really taking it's time getting going but when the film does indeed focus on it's plot it can be an interesting plot the issue is tho is that the film barely devotes much time into fully developing it's plot with the subplot between Eddie and Venom fighting over the fact that Venom wants more freedom getting alot more screen time then the actual main plot of the film does when in actuality it should be the other way round all of which make the main plot of this film feel alot more like it's side plot and the side plot of the film instead feels alot more like the main plot of the film with both plots not really being developed as other one really should have been with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock / Venom , Michelle Williams as Anne Weying / She Venom and Naomie Harris as Frances Barrison / Shriek. Also starring in this film is Reid Scott as Dr. Dan Lewis , Stephen Graham as Detective Patrick Mulligan , Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady / Carnage , Peggy Lu as Mrs. Chen , Sian Webber as Dr. Camille Pazzo , Scroobius Pip as Siegfried and Little Simz as Herself.
Now then as for what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual actin that's actually featured / presented to to us in this very film was on all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances and while yes alot of this does indeed come from the fact that pretty much all of this films actors are indeed a bunch of really good actors in there own right alot of it does also come from the fact that this films director Andy Serkis is not only a really good actor in his right but is also a director who knows how to get a good performance out of his actors with this of course stemming from the fact that he himself is a really good actor and this is something that really does indeed shine though in all of the actors performances in this film as all of this films actors really deliver a bunch of strong performances and while yes some of them are indeed better then others those bad performances really doesn't lower the overall quality of this films acting with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors really have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Double Negative , Image Engine Design , Framestore and Pix Entertainment. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty person ally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the films CGI looking really good with the film making good use of CGI only using it when they really needed to and not when they want to like for example in creating thew characters of Venom and Carnage or for extending sets which is a really great way to use CGI as all your doing is enhancing what was already there on the day and while yes there are some really bad CGI effects in this film those effects don't represent the overall quality of the films CGI with the characters having alot of really nice detail in them and looking really good even three years later which is something that is really rare as CGI effects age really quickly and far quicker then practical effects do and yet even tho the film has some very little known effects companies working on this film the overall quality of this films effects are indeed really good and more then match the quality of the effects that are in the first film as well.
This film does have a small connection to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe as during this films mid-credits scene Eddie and Venom find themselves transported to the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While their appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home basically just comes to a cameo in that film it is something that does et up the fact that the multiverse is not only effecting the MCU but is also effecting all of the Marvel movies that were being made at that point in time and while yes it would have been fun if Spider-Man: No Way Home did deliver on the promise of Spider-Man fighting Venom given how overstuffed with villains from other films that that film was it does make sense that they didn't include Eddie and Venom in that film as there would have been very little room for them as well but at the same tome it now makes the mid-credits scene in this film now come across as being pointless as it adds to nothing when it really should have been building towards something d while there is every chance that Spider-Man could be appearing in Venom: The Last Dance and that it could be picked up and payed off there in that film it also makes you wonder why they bothered to include a teaser for it in this film when really they had no way of knowing that they were going to be getting a sequel in the first place.
Both of the Venom films has some really forgettable villains in them with the same thing also being true for this film as well. As Cletus Kasady / Carnage isn't that good of a villain as he doesn't really have a clear end goal in mind outside of the really basic revenge plot which is just a stereotypical villain plan and while it is something that does work well for this character it's also something that feels like a let down for a character that really should have had a much more better plan to him for his live action debut with the character much like Venom really being hindered by the fact that this film is PG-13 which does limit what they could have the characters do and that does mean that Carnage can't actually cause that much Carnage as alot of the stuff that gory stuff that the character is known for really can't be shown in the film and it's the same thing with Venom and while it does make sense for Venom as in this world he is presented as the straight forward good guy Carnage on the other hand is the straight up bad guy and therefor he should be allowed to do the more really gory stuff instead of just cutting away from him when he's about to do something gory with Carnage himself not being that interesting of a character whereas it's the opposite that's true for Cletus Kasady who is the broken man who had his one true love taken away from him and seeing how far he's really willing to go to get that person that he really loves really does make him an interesting character.
To give this film at least some form of credit it does try to do something interesting with both Eddie and Venom. By giving them an odd couple type pf relationship with the two pf them being complete total opposites which does make there dynamic really interesting but the plot line that they give them isn't all that good as it's predictable as you know right away where that plot line is going and while yes it does lead to some really funny scenes in the film none of those scenes add anything to the film and don't really advance the characters in any meaningful as we don't get to find out anything new about either character with both characters ending the film in the exact same place where they started the film and while those scenes to lead to some good laughs like Venom having pet chickens called Sonny and Cher for example and Venom going out dancing just because he now has the freedom to do so those scenes also take from the main plot of the film and also create tonal whiplash with the film as in one scene they could be talking about or even showing us something dark and disturbing and then in the very next scene they could be telling a joke and alot of those more jokey scenes do infact come from the the Eddie and Venom plot and scenes when there should have been a more better way to do the Eddie and Venom scenes in a way that doesn't create tonal whiplash for the rest of the film but to the films credit tho it's those scenes that really do expand and develop on their relationship together from after the first film ended.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty seven minuets and eighteen seconds. Which is a really solid running time for this film to have as the film really does have more enough there interms of plot to really cover that amount of running time but at the same time tho as the film really does take alot of time to really get going this is a film that really should have been at the very least thirty minuets as that would not only allow the film to flow at a more natural pace and would be better suited with the films slowburner approach it would also allow for the film to really develop it's characters alot more as alot of the films characters don't get alot of focus despite them being main characters with the same thing kind of being true for Cletus Kasady / Carnage as even tho he does get a little bit of focus he doesn't get alot of focus and as a result of that is the fact that he really isn't as developed as a characters with the same thing also being true for Frances Barrison / Shriek and for Anne Weying / She Venom as well both of whom barely get any lines of dialog let alone scenes where there characters get the chance to become fully developed characters outside of them being the main love interesting for both Cletus and Eddie respectively but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured /presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty best part of this film. As this films action is not only really good but is also really entertaining to watch as well with all of this films being really fun to watch which is what you not only want to also expect from a superhero comic book movie as well as you get to see Venom using all of his powers in all of the films action scenes and while yes this film action really does boil down to who can hit who the hardest what makes this films standout is the fact that we also get to see alot of really creative locations and we get to see just how creative the action in comic book superhero films can be as well as we get to see both Venom and Carnage use there many arms to hit each other and to throw things at not only each other but also in the case of Carnage innocent people as well which is something that does make the action alot of fun to watch as does the fact that we also get to see Frances Barrison / Shriek use her screech powers as well something that does effect both Venom and Carnage as it could kill both of them with the best action scene in the whole entire film being the films third act final fight which is just so much fu to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall while both of the Venom films aren't that good films this film is the better of the two films just because of the fact that it's the film that's alot more fun to watch and really isn't afraid comic book movie and because of that the film is also a really enjoyable to watch as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then iv;e talked about all of the good and as welp as all of the bad things that are in thus very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all pf the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page and the official Sony' Spider-Man Universe fandom wiki page. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Sony's Spider-Man Universe fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official Sony's Spider-man Universe fandom wiki page are all really high quality and in definition with really with all of the images that really are all currently up and really presently on the really great and the really solid the official Sony's Spider-Man Universe fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
