Borderlands Film SPOILER FREE Film Review

For a shockingly long amount of time live action video game adaptations where seen as being nothing more then box office poison. With alot of them flopping and flopping hard at the box office and while there have been plenty of great video game adaptations in recent memory a new live action video game adaptation has just been released and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FREE review of the film that is an old school live action video game adaptation in all of the worst ways possible with the film in question being called simply just "Borderlands" enjoy.

The plot of this film is a bounty hunter named Lilith is tasked with finding a kidnapped but along the way she has to team with a rag tag group of heroes to stop an evil corporation getting something inside a vault. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us n this very film was in all honesty really bad with the plot of this film being at best really weak and at it's worst just laughably bad and not in the way that makes the film so bad that it's good with the plot of this film being nothing more then a cliche ridden mess that's been done better in other quite frankly better film but could also only be fixed by going back to the scriptwriting stage as there's nothing even in the slightest thing possible that's redeemable about this films plot and not by doing another round of reshoots with the plot of this film also not really being entertaining not is it really rather engaging either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Cate Blanchett as Lilith , Kevin Hart as Roland and Jack Black as The Voice Of Claptrap. Also starring in this film is Edgar Ramírez as Atlas , Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina , Florian Munteanu as Krieg , Gina Gershon as Mad Moxxi , Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis , Bobby Lee as Larry , Olivier Richters as Krom , Janina Gavankar as Commander Knoxx , Charles Babalola as Hammerlock , Haley Bennett as Lilith's Mom , Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus , Steven Boyer as Scooter , Ryann Redmond as Ellie and Harry Ford as Middleman.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However that's more due to the fact that this films actors are a bunch of really good actors alot of whom really can turn in a good performance blindfolded if they really wanted to and yet when it comes to this film there just not given the chance to to turn in the good performances that we the audience know that they can do with alot of the films cast feeling miscast with the likes of Cate Blanchett as Lilith and Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Patricia Tannis being prime examples of this as it's clear as day that they were only added to the films cast just so they marketing team can put there name on the films poster with the acting that's in this film not really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so bad that it gives none of this films cast absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters are even meant to be in the first place all of which really do harm the overall quality of the acting that's in this film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Axis Studios , Blur Studio , Clear Angle Studios , Crafty Apes , Double Negative , Framestore , Method Studios and ReDefine. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that6's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really bad with the effects in this film looking exactly like the game and not in a good way as the effects in this film look bad and therefor shouldn't look like a video game they should look like that they belong in a movie and while yes there are some decent looking VFX in this film those are very few and far between with the film having alot more bad looking effects then it does have good looking effects with it being clear as day that the makers of this film didn't put alot of money towards the effects which is something that they should have done as a film like is is in it's very nature an effects heavy movie and yet alot of the effects in this film just don't look all that good.

Of course this film is based off of the 2009 video game of the exact same name with the film also borrowing at the very least one character from the second game. Apart from that the movie and the games might as well be two completely different things as it's clear even coming from sone who hasn't played any of the games that this film doesn't get the true spirit of the film as apart from the ageing up of characters like Lilith and Dr. Patricia Tannis the film just isn't an anarchic and as fun as the first game looked with this film trying so hard to be anarchic and fun where as with the first game it's something that looked like came natural to it if anything this film should have been like the film Tank Girl which was this weird comic book movie from the nineties that wasn't afraid to be a weird comic book movie where as with this film it's so afraid to be like it's own source material and trying to please everybody that at the end of the day it's going to please nobody and and is just to scared to be a dumb video game movie which is exactly what it should have been and because of that fact the film comes across as being alot less fun to watch then what it really should have been and instead might as well be based off of something as while yes the film and first game do share similar plot details the films plot is mostly unique to this film.

Thi8s film is rather rightfully listed as being comedy but apart from one or two slightly funny jokes there's nothing all that funny about this film. With us the audience instead laughing at the film rather then laughing with the film as the film is very unintentionally funny be due to the bad effects or due to the bad acting alot of the things that were not meant to find funny are the things that are actually funny where as alot of the things that we the audience are meant to find funny just aren't that funny and what makes this worse is the fact that this film finished filming three years ago and underwent a round of reshoots so even Lionsgate knew that this film wasn't working which might explain why they hardly bothered to promote the film in the first place if anything this film should have alot of funny jokes as we have both Jack Black and Kevin Hart starring in this film and yet none of them are really given things that are actually funny to say and do with Jack Black coming across as being annoying to watch and to listen to and Kevin Hart just not being given anything funny to say or do and as result of that is the fact that very little of this films comedy actually works with this film having alot more really unfunny jokes init then it does have some really funny jokes init.

The main villains of this film are meant to be Atlas and Commander Knoxx yet neither of those two characters are given a reason to be evil in the first place. Heck both of those characters aren't even as annoying as Claptrap is and he's meant to be one of the good guys with Knoxx not even being that evil in the first place as she's just doing her job and that's it and Atlas barely gets alot of screen time for us the audience to really form an opinions of him out side of the fact that the film says that he's the bad guy so there for we must all hate him which really isn't good enough and heck it's the villain characters that are actually less annoying then the heroes are as the main heroes in this film do come across as being more evil then the actual villains of the film are as we get to see more reasons as to why characters like Lilith for example could be evil and yet she's meant to be the good guy all of this shows that at some point during the making of this film the makers of this film just gave up on caring about the film and instead just chose just to make a bad film as none of the films villains are that interesting characters as we do't get to find out that much about them in 5he first place where as with the films main hero characters we get to find out alot about them and yet they still come across as being really uninteresting and boring characters.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty one minuets ad forty nine seconds. Which is such a short amount of running time for this film to have as this film does have alot of things to set up and the film has more then  enough there interms of plot to cover a longer running time and yet some strange reason the film makers chose to give this film a much more shorter running time most likely in order to fit in more screenings when they should have been focused on giving the film the running time that it deserves and because of this films incredibly short running time none of this films characters get any of the development that they should have gotten and the films plot can't fleshed out as the film has to rush along to the next plot beat instead of taking it's time and getting us the audience to actually care about the films characters and about the films plot which is something that in end will only end up helping the film where as with this films current running time whilst it will yes get the film more screenings will also end up hurting the film in the long run but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well the in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However at the exact same time like alot of the film this films action isn't as fun as it really should have been heck they have a character who is basically crazy in Tiny Tina and yet they don't do anything fun , funny or creative with her during this films action scenes which is something that they really should have done as those are the moments that would allow her character to shine with this films action being good at some points as there are some decent action scenes in the film but given this films director is Eli Roth a guy who is known for creating insane horror films you'd expect that exact same kind of creative energy to be put into the action and even with Tim Millar directing the reshoots none of this films action scenes just aren't that fun and as creative as they really should have been in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film is trying to hard to appease both fans and none fans of the game that it's going to end up pleasing nobody and judging by the fact that the film currently sits at a really embarrassingly low score of 3% on Rotten Tomatoes it's not that hard to see why this film earned that score as it really is just that bad of a film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and a such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 1 out of 10 from me.
