The Dukes Of Hazzard Film Review
Making movies based off of a TV show is something that's not new when it comes to Hollywood as if a show is or even was popular you can bet that there'll be a movie adaptation of it coming at some point in the future. With the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today being a prime example of people not understanding what it is that there adapting and changing it into something that's it's not and so then join me as I review the film that saw a famous car make the leap to the big screen with the film in question being called simply just "The Dukes Of Hazzard" enjoy.
The plot of the film is when cousins Bo and Luke Duke find out that the evil Boss Hogg plans to turn there home town into a strip coal mine and have to stop him before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual poot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time the plot of the film isn't all that good either as while the plot of the film is cinematic enough for a feature film it's still just a plot that could have been done in an episode of the show as there's nothing that really screams that you have to see the film to get this plot and while the plot of the film does feel like something that you'd want to see in a movie adaptation of a TV show the plot also doesn't feel like something that would fit The Dukes Of Hazzard franchise in the slightest bit possible with the plot of the film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways /a t least.
Starring in this film is Johnny Knoxville as Luke Duke , Seann William Scott as Bo Duke and Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke. Also starring in this film is Burt Reynolds as Boss Hogg , Willie Nelson as Uncle Jesse Duke , David Koechner as Cooter Davenport , M. C. Gainey as Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane , Michael Weston as Deputy Enos Strate , Lynda Carter as Pauline Powers , James Roday Rodriguez as Billy Prickett , Kevin Heffernan as Derek "Sheev" Sheevington , Nikki Griffin as Katie-Lynn Johnson , Jacqui Maxwell as Annette , Alice Greczyn as Laurie Pullman Joe Don Baker as Governor Jim Applewhite , Barry Corbin as Bill Pullman , Michael Roof as Dil Driscoll and Junior Brown as The Balladeer.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With alot of the actors that are starring in this film doing alot better then what you'd really think of them acting wise as nobody would expect a good performance from Jessica Simpson and yet that's exactly what we get and nothing more then that and that is something that works well enough for this film but at the same time tho the actors that you expect a good performance like Burt Reynolds for example really don't deliver as he just phones in his performance and doesn't deliver as good of a performance that we know that he is capable of doing with the same thing also being for both Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott who just don't deliver as good of a performance that we all know that they can do with the acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that this films script if just so bad as it gives none of the films cast absolutely nothing to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does effect the overall quality of the acting that's in this film.
This film does give us a backstory for the franchises car "The General Lee" which is something that really doesn't work at all. As this films version of how The General Lee get's it's iconic look is retconned in the very next film and while it's understandable why this film decided to tell how the car got it's iconic look that should have been honored when it came to the prequel and yet for some strange reason it wasn't with the origin making sense interms of this film but what doesn't make sense is that for some reason Rosco hates the car this is despite the fact that in the show the boys would often help Rosco out and he would there for not hate the car and even in this film the boys don't spend alot of time messing with him for him to truly hate the car with this all being done to make this version of Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane really seem alot more serious and alot less cartoonish then his TV show counterpart and not because it's something that adds something to the film as the film just straight up drops that aspect of the character really not that long after they mention it.
To be frank this film doesn't even try to recapture the tone and spirit of the original show with this film putting more emphasis on being very highly sexualized. Which is something that the original show never did as the show put alot of focus on traditional family values and being a family friendly show and as a result of that is the fact that kids could watch this show with any grown ups and yet with this movie it's the opposite that's true as this movie is trying to be like American Pie only that's not something that works well enough for this film as the film is based of off something where that wouldn't have worked in the first place and this is something that even stars of the original show agree with original series actor Ben Jones even trying to convince the fans of the show to boycott the movie unless it was toned down to be more family friendly and original series actor John Schneider was even quoted as saying "My gosh... it was terrible! It wasn't Dukes. It was true to whatever it was; I just don't know what that was!" and even Johnny Knoxville himself went up to John Schneider during the premiere of the film just to apologize for bad the film really is.
To give this film some sort of credit they do at least do a better job of trying to recapture the original tone and spirit of the original show then what The Munsters 2022 film did. As that film is borderline unwatchable at times and with this film at the very least while yes it's bad but you can at least see that there where at the very least trying to recapture the magic of what made the original series so good and so beloved in the first place yes they failed to do so but that doesn't mean that the effort wasn't there as you can see all throughout this film that there is a good film in there just trying to get out and yet due to the films bad script , terrible producer in Bill Gerber and terrible director in Jay Chandrasekhar who hasn't made a good film in his entire career it's not really shocking that the film turned out as bad as it was as everything that shouldn't work about this film doesn't work and unfortunately that does include trying to recapture the tone and spirit of the original show and as a result of that is the fact that this film comes across as being nothing then cheap cash grab and not really something that really should have been made by the fans and for the fans.
The films villain Boss Hogg really isn't the best of villains as despite the character being very well acted by Burt Reynolds. The character just isn't as good and as memorable as his TV show counterpart as while the version of the character in the TV show isn't as serious and is more of a goofy villain he still knew when to drop a scheme and when not to get into a fight with people something which this version of the character doesn't know anything about as he sticks with this scheme all the way until the end even when he's all but beaten he still sticks with it when it would have been more in his character to leave the plan and let someone else take the fall and where as the original character was against violence this one seems to enjoy it which doesn't make him that threatening of a villain as all it does is make him just like every other villain out there but to give this version of the character some sort of credit he does know how to get things done and is more often then not thinking two or perhaps maybe even three steps ahead of everybody else something which his TV show counterpart very rarely if ever seemed to do.
Now then this film has / had an exactly grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty six minuets and fifty six seconds. Which is a bit of a long running time for this film to have as the film really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to really cover that large amount of running time with the films plot being at best thin as it does take a little while for the plot of the film to really get going and as a result of that is the fact that we get alot of scenes that really add nothing to the overall plot of the film and are very quickly forgotten about just as soon as they've appeared on screen which makes those scenes feel like padding and like filler with this film not really needing padding out as if you had this film come in at around the one hour and twenty minuet mark then the film would be alot more focused as the film would have to focus alot more on the plot instead of having alot of pointless scenes that serve next to purpose in the film but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actual talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As the film does have some decent jokes in it but that's also the problem as the film has alot more bad jokes in it then it does good jokes with the film instead putting alot more focus into creating some rather fun looking action scenes which does make sense as this film is an action comedy but ay the same time the film still needs some actually funny jokes to make it seem more balanced as when you put more focus on one aspect over the other it makes the film feel alot more out of balanced which is something that happens with this film and as a result of that is the fact that we get a film that lives up to being a passable action film but is also just a bad comedy film as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall out of the two remake The Dukes Of Hazzard films this one is quite easily the better one of the two as at least this one has some effort put into it as the prequel film really barely has that going for it but with that being said this film is still a really bad film as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official The Dukes Of Hazzard fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being the really great Google Images this is because really all of the images that I really got and used from Google Images are all really high quality with all the images that are currently up and on the great Google Images are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
