Monkey Man Film SPOILER FREE Film Review

There are quite literally hundreds if not thousands of films released every year some on big screen , some direct to DVD and some get released direct to TV. Either way that's alot of films to be released in one single calendar year and as a result it's understandable that one or two films don't get as much as attention as other big name films do with that being the very case for the the film that i'm about to review for you all today as while this film is indeed a hit at the box office not alot of people are talking about it and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FREE review of the film that really is basically John Wick but set in India with the film in question being called simply just "Monkey Man" enjoy.

The plot of this film is years after he witnesses the death of his mother and his village burnt to the ground by a corrupt politician a young man goes on a mission of revenge to avenge the death of his mother. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that' s actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with the plot of this film being something that really hasn't been seen in films before which does have the add on effect of making the plot of this film at times feel refreshing new and different but at the same time tho the idea of someone going on a revenge mission to avenge the death of a loved is a stereotypical action movie plot with the plot of this film being really rather entertaining and as well as being really engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Starring in this film is this films co-screen-writer , co-producer and director Dev Patel as Kid / Bobby / Monkey Man and Sharlto Copley as Tiger. Also starring in this film is Pitobash as Alphonso , Vipin Sharma as Alpha , Sikandar Kher as Rana Singh , Sobhita Dhulipala as Sita , Ashwini Kalsekar as Queenie Kapoor , Adithi Kalkunte as Neela , Makarand Deshpande as Baba Shakti and Zakir Hussain as A Tabla Maestro.

Now then interms of what I personally thought /felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in al, honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty alot better then what it really had any right to be. As on paper this film really shouldn't have had some good acting in it as the film a first time writer , director and producer starring in the film and the films cast is made up of mostly unknown or at best very little known actors and yet despite all of that working against it the film somehow managed to have some really good acting in it with co-writer , co-producer , director and star Dev Patel turning in a really good performance one which does go to show you that not only is his ready to headline a movie he could do so very easily if there was someone willing to take a chance on him in the lead role of a film with the acting in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.

Despite this film already being a hit at the box office as it's already made back it's budget of around ten million American dollars there are very few people talking about this film. Which does make sense as both Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire and The First Omen are currently playing in theaters but this film is better then The First Omen is and it is a film that should be talked about and heck even leading up to the films release there was shockingly very little chatter about this film online which does make it seem like that this film will be a sleeper hit as not alot of people know about this film even being a thing n the first place while this does indeed make sense given what else is still playing in cinema's just because this film isn't apart of a pre-existing franchise doesn't mean that we shouldn't talk about if anything that means that we really should be talking about it as the way things are going with this film right this really could be the start of a brand new franchise.

This film really did feel like a John Wick with the key plot points of this film being very similar to a key plot point of that film. Which does make sense in some regards as John Wick is one of the biggest action franchises in modern day Hollywood and as a result of that is the fact that it does make sense for other films to take inspiration or even plot points from that film and use them in there own piece of media however tho there so on the nose with it so much so that all it does is remind you that you could be watching a much more better film and all that does is take you out of the film that your watching which will do nothing but hurt the film due to the fact that your thinking about watching a much more better film instead of being focused on the film that your presently watching but as was said it does make sense for films to become inspired by the John Wick films just due to how popular that they all are.

While this film does indeed have a tired and played out action plot it does something new and different by not only having the film bet set entirely in India but also by having an Indian god play a huge part in the films plot. This is something that really does work both for and against the film as it does give us a rather unique setting that hasn't been seen all that much in action films with the idea of having an Indian god play a part in a characters backstory being really interesting it also doesn't work in the films favor as not alot of people will know about Indian culture and when your making a film you always want to reach the biggest audience possible and by narrowing it down to just one set of people your also narrowing down how many people will enjoy this film to it's fullest as while yes other people will enjoy this film but only Indians will be able to fully enjoy this film due to the fact that the film feels like that it's trying to appeal more to them instead of appealing to much more wider audience which is something that really would have helped the film out in the longer run.

While the films characters aren't as likable as the characters in say The First Omen for example this films are more memorable. As there given flaws and personalities all of which do make them standout from alot of other characters and while this films characters won't stay with you for that long once you see a picture of them online you'll know who they are and what film there from as there just that memorable and having memorable characters is something that we barely get to see nowadays as alot of the time we just get stock characters that are meant to be the stand ins for the audience without having anything unique or different that makes them standout where as the opposite is true for this films characters as here the films characters do stand out and are more then just stand ins for the audience and while this films villains isn't the best villain out there as he really doesn't have a motif to speak of there is a clear effort put into making this films villain just as memorable as all of the other characters that are in this film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty three minuets and twenty seconds. Which is a bit long for an action film to have but is also another example of this film taking inspiration from the John Wick films as those films typically run in at around the same time as well with this film not really having enough plot to cover that large of running time with the film having alot of scenes that could be seen as filler as they don't really add anything to the plot of the film but at the same time tho while they don't anything to the actual plot of the film they do add something to Kid's own personal character arc of learning how to best to get revenge on someone who has hurt him the most and as a result of that is the fact that is we are now really left with scenes that are filler but can't be removed from the film as that would mean harming a character arc but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having what is quite easily some of the best and most insane action sequences of any action film that's been released so far in 2024 as that's just how good all of this films action is with the films best action scene in the whole entire movie being it's third act battle which without going into spoilers is just insanely good and as is filled to the brim with alot of cool moments with the same also being true for all of this films action scenes as well as all of this films many action scenes have alot of just really cool looking moments in them as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film is just so good that it really deserve to be seen by alot of people and it deserves to gave alot more people talking about as this film really is just all that good and is really quite easily better then what The First Omen is despite all of this films really quite a few flaws in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
