The Flintstones 1994 Film Review
There are alot of really bad live action adaptations of cartoons out there but even the good ones sometimes fail to recapture the magic and ton of the original. Well one of the films that managed to do exactly that is the film that i'm about to review for you all today as it recaptures the tone of the original show so well that it basically feels like a live action episode of the show and so then join me as I review the episode that proves that sometimes's it's best to let a fan make a live action movie version of something that that they truly love with the film in question being called simply just "The Flintstones" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when he's promoted at work Fred finds himself caught up in the middle of a scheme to rob his work of all of it's money. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad however that's also the issue as the plot of this film isn't all that good either which is in line with the show as the shows plots were never all that good either but at the same time you expect something greater from the movie adaptation and that's not just something that we get from this film this is despite the fact that the plot of this film is really entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is John Goodman as Fred Flintstone , Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble and Elizabeth Perkins as Wilma Flintstone. Also starring in this film is Rosie O'Donnell as Betty Rubble , Kyle MacLachlan as Cliff Vandercave , Halle Berry as Miss Sharon Stone , Elizabeth Taylor as Pearl Slaghoople , Mel Blanc as The Voice Of Dino , Elaine and Melanie Silver as Pebbles Flintstone , Hlynur and Marinó Sigurðsson as Bamm-Bamm Rubble , Dann Florek as Mr. Slate , Richard Moll as Hoagie , Irwin Keyes as Joe Rockhead , Jim Doughan as Maitre d' , E. G. Daily as The Voice Of Bamm-Bamm Rubble and Harvey Korman as The Voice Of The Dictabird.
Now then inters of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With John Goodman being pitch perfect as Fred Flintstone heck the only cast member who really doesn't give that good of a performance is E.G. Daily and even then it's just because of the fact that the voice she uses for Bamm-Bamm is pretty much the voice that she uses for Tommy Pickles from Rugrats so much that it odes become distracting with the acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that the films script is so bad that it really doesn't give the cast a whole lot to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities is even meant to be in the first and that really is something that really does effect the performances in this film as this films script really is just all that bad.
Doing the CGI for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad however that's also the issue as the films CGI isn't all that good this is make even worse when you take into account that the film has a really great looking Dino puppet that still holds up really well all of these years later and yet the films CGI especially on Dino really hasn't aged all that well this is of course of no fault of the makers of this film but it is something that is really noticeable and while we do get one or two decent looking CGI effects in this film those are very few and very far between as the films has alot more mixed to bad looking CGI effects then it does have some actually good looking CGI effects.
While this film prides itself on being an adaptation of The Flintstones as a whole it's more of an adaptation of the show from it's fourth season onwards. As for the first three seasons the show was made more for adults then it was for kids and yet when they brought in Bamm-Bamm the show became more targeted at little kids which is where this film comes in as this film is very child friendly and while yes it does have some of that adult edge that where in the first three seasons of the show it's more of a family friendly film which does create a rather odd tone as they could be talking about something very mature and adult in one minuet but then in the very next scene there could be a joke that only little kids would like all of which make you wonder why the makers of this film just didn't pick one tone instead of trying to blend to different tones together.
There are some things that the film gets wrong when it comes to it's treatment of the characters the first amongst which is the fact that they film got the personalities of Fred and Barney wrong. As in the show show Fred was the slightly smarter one of the two whilst Barney was more of the dumb one of the two and while yes the two did quite frequently switch roles yet in this film it's Fred that's more of the dumb one and Barney is more of the smart which is something that just doesn't work as Fred would always be the one coming up with these get rich quick schemes or just trying to get one over and Wilma where as Barney would just go along with just for the fun of it and as a result when you switch those two up it also switches up the whole dynamic between the two friends to such a degree that they might as well be to completely different characters when having the characters as they were in the show would have served the movies plot as well as both of the characters always had good hearts and as a result of this is the fact that the films plot wouldn't need to change in the slightest way possible.
The main villains plan really doesn't make a whole lot sense as his plan requires the smartest person in the quarry. This really doesn't add up as the plan could only fail if they had the smartest person in the quarry working for them yet if they got the dumbest person in the quarry working for them then not only could the plan work then they could also manipulate however they got to do whatever they wanted to no questions asked this wouldn't be an issue if the films villain was a bit dumb yet the films presented it's villain Cliff Vandercave as someone who is quite smart and who is quite a good thinker who thinks of almost everything before he makes one single step and yet he overlooked this one fetal flaw in the plan that he spent presumably months setting up all for no reason other then the movies plot needs to happen yet here's the thing either way if they did go with the dumbest person instead of the smartest Fred would still get the job and as a result Cliff's plan would have happened and as a result there is no excuse for this one part of the villains plan being overlooked as much as it is as it would still play out the exact same way.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty minuets and thirty nine seconds. Which is pretty much the perfect running time for this film to have as the film really doesn't have a whole lot there interms of plot to cover anything longer then that and whilst it would have been great if the film had a much more longer running time just because that would then allow the film to fully flesh out it's characters and make it's characters both look and feel more three dimensional it would come at the expense of the story as the story would be stretched even thinner then what it currently is doing and that would then have the knock on effect of making all of the films issues alot more major then what they already are but I will admit that the film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this film having some really good rock and stone puns but alot of this films funny jokes aren't the ones that you see as alot of them are the ones that are happening in the background during over scenes and it's those jokes that make the film alot more funnier then what it really had any right to be as the film has alot more really bad jokes which is still apart of the films charm but a bad joke is still a bad joke regardless of if it's apart of the films charm or not in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall while this film is still a really good example of just how good a live action could be if it was made by actual fans however tho due to the director not being a good director the film isn't as a good as it really could have or perhaps even really should have been in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good as as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film really does earn itself a score of exactly a 5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used review from the official The Flintstones fandom wiki page , the official Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being Google Images this is because all of the images that I got for this review and that are still of course currently up and really are on the really great Google Images with them all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
