Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me Film Review
It's been quite sometime since I last reviewed an Austin Powers and well I thought that i'd finally tackle another one of these movies. As such it only made sense that I tackle the next film in the franchise as it's one that alot of people seem to really love and as the only one that i've not seen all the way through and so then join me as I review the film that has more references to James Bond then the actual James Bond franchise does with the film in question being called simply just "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me" enjoy.
The plot of the film is when Dr. Evil travels back in time to 1969 to steal Austin's mojo for his latest scheme and so it's up to Austin and fellow secret agent Felicity Shagwell to stop him before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being just as absurd , entertaining and crazy fun as you'd both want and expect it to be in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is this films co-writer and producer Mike Myers as Austin Powers, Dr. Evil and Fat Bast*rd. Also starring in this film is Heather Graham as Felicity Shagwell , Michael York as Basil Exposition , Robert Wagner as Number 2 , Rob Lowe as Young Number 2 , Mindy Sterling as Frau Farbissina , Seth Green as Scott Evil , Verne Troyer as Mini-Me , Elizabeth Hurley as Vanessa Kensington , Gia Carides as Robin Spitz-Swallows , Kristen Johnston as Ivana Humpalot and Will Ferrell as Mustafa.
Now then interms if what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. As this film is made up of a bunch of really funny actors and actresses who know not only how to be funny but can also turn in some rather solid performances with the acting in this film being really helped by the fact that the script for this film is also really that good and so all the cast have to do is just say the words as they are written and a good performance will come out naturally.
This film does make use of time travel and while that would usually bug me it doesn't in this film as time travel is baked into the very DNA of this franchise. What dd bug me about the time travel aspect of this film tho is the fact that Austin isn't given a time machine but is instead given a time and space machine as a time machine would only allow him to travel backwards and forwards in time where as here he is quite clearly moving in space as well it's a nitpick I know but if you happen to watch a lot of the truly great time travel movies such as myself then you'd be just as annoyed by this one little mistake as I was.
There were quite alot of references to the James Bond film franchise in this film which I wasn't really expecting to be the case. Of course the title of the film is a reference to the film The Spy Who Loved Me but there's also references to Casino Royale , Dr. No , Goldfinger and quite possibly Thunderball as well and that's not taking into account the character of Dr. Evil is a parody of Ernst Stavro Blofeld with all of the references really getting a laugh out of me as it just goes to show you that Mike Myers really was a fan of the James Bond franchise as only a fan would have snuck those reference and done so in a way that doesn't really call that much attention to them which outside of the obvious reference in the title is very much the case here.
I have to admit I find it a stretch to far that the British secret intelligence would already know that Vanessa Kensington is a fembot. As it doesn't really make sense for them to allow her to go on a mission with the very person that she's trying to kill to stop the very person that I assume made her which would be fine if Austin was American and working for the Americans but in the context of the film he's British and is working for the British and which means that the film making fun of British doesn't make that much sense as there now also making fun of their own main character yes I get that they needed to have Austin have a new girlfriend by the end of this film but they could have done without killing of the previous love interest.
This film is the film that introduces us to the character of Mini-Me who is just pure joy to watch in this film. With the character coming across as being like a child that doesn't really know any better only alot more sick and twisted and yet at the same time very cute which makes it all the more funny when he does do something evil as it's something that you wouldn't expect a kid to do with it being very easy to see as to why this character became a firm fan favorite as every single scene that he's in is just a great scene with the character being able to get across so much of his personality without saying one single line of dialog and seeing his relationship with Dr. Evil and his rivalry with Scott are just pure fun to see play out in this film.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty five minuets and two seconds. Which is pretty much the exact running time that you'd expect from a film like this but even so this film, packs in so much plot wise that you really didn't notice just how long this film is however that's also the issue as this film does through so much at you plot wise that it can seem pretty confusing as to what's actually going on in the film which really shouldn't be the case at the all and as a result of this the film can't really fully develop it's newer characters all that well with alot of them just coming across as being rather underdeveloped but I will admit that this film really does ave some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having alot of really painfully joked in it with alot of this films jokes not only being really funny but also holding up all these later and heck id' go as far as to say that this film is alot more funnier then alot of the comedies that are released today as this film is really just focused on telling good jokes and is not focused on pleasing everyone in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is a really funny film and it's that I very highly recommend to people that just want to have a good time and have good laugh whilst watching a really funny film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well the boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Austin Powers fandom wiki page , the official James Bond fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being Google Images this is because all of the images that I got and that currently up / featured and on Google Images are all fairly high in quality and as well as being fairly high in definition.
