King Kong Vs Godzilla 1962 Film Review

 

The king of the monsters has had many foes over the decades ranging from giant moths to a giant three headed dragon. However he met technically his second foe in his third movie with that movie being a crossover movie and it's that movie that i'm going to be talking about today as it's the last Godzilla film where Godzilla himself is a true villain and so then join me as I review the film that is the first time that these two iconic titans fought each other with the film in question being called simply just "King Kong Vs Godzilla" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a greedy TV executive wants a giant monster to promote his TV shows he unknowingly sets up giant fight between two monsters. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot being rather simply but enjoyably so in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Tadao Takashima as Osamu Sakurai , Kenji Sahara as Kazuo Fujita and Yū Fujiki as Kinsaburo Furue. Also starring in this film is Ichirō Arishima as Mr. Tako , You Only Live Twice star Mie Hama as Fumiko Sakurai , Jun Tazaki as General Masami Shinzo , You Only Live Twice star Akiko Wakabayashi as Tamie , Akihiko Hirata as Defense Minister Shigezawa , Somesho Matsumoto as Dr. Ohnuki , Senkichi Omura as Konno , Shoichi Hirose as King Kong and Haruo Nakajima as Godzilla.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well hen in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films acting being alot better then what it really had any right to be as no one really expects good acting for a Godzilla movie and so it really was surprising to see that this film actually has some really good acting within it and not just the bad acting that the franchise would attract in the more child friendly Godzilla films.

This was also the last film in which Godzilla would be a straight up bad guy as from this point on he would play more of an anti-hero role in the franchise. I have to admit that I really don't like that they made Godzilla into more of a hero character just because the character has always been a villain be it from his origins or from the fact that he levels a city every single time he steps on land just everything about this character just screams villain and while we do get some good films with him as a hero we get better films and better moments with him being the main villain of any of the Godzilla films especially the early ones.

It was rumored that there was a secret ending depending on which version of the film that you saw this has since been disproven several times over by the producers of the film itself. As the original plan for the film was always to have Kong win as he was the bigger icon of the two at the time and was the stories hero and so having Kong win the fight does make sense but at the sane time when the film makers end the film with Godzilla's roar being heard it does muddy the waters a bit on if the king of the monsters was actually defeated but I personally like to think that Kong merely knocked Godzilla out in order for him to swim away.

This film is perhaps the most fun early Godzilla movie out there as it gives you all the things that you expect from a Godzilla movie and really nothing more then that. Altho the film does try to cram in a message right at the last second about humans not being nice to animals and plants something which is never the case in the whole entire film and is there just to make the film seem all the more important then what it actually was which just wasn't needed as sometimes just being a dumb fun movie is all you need to be and that's exactly what it is this is a film that knows exactly what it is and isn't afraid to just be a dumb and fun movie.

Nobody expects great human characters from a Godzilla movie however the human characters in this film had no real character to them  at all. With alot of the male human characters just being bad comic relief characters at best and the female characters just being their so Kong as girl to a grab a hold of and that's really it which neither of which would be a bad if it weren't for the fact that the so called comedy in this film just isn't that funny and the female characters barely show up and so there's no reason to care about them when one of them gets taken by Kong both with the female characters not really adding anything to the actual plot of the film and could have been removed from the actual film itself and nothing of importance would have been lost.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty seven minuets and twenty seconds. Which is a bit of a long running time for a film like this one to have as it has to set up who Kong is and tell us how Godzilla is alive and still tell a good story and while it dos manage to do all of that it would have worked alot better if this film was just five or even ten minuets longer but on the flip side of that if this film was five or ten minuets longer it would be stretching an already thin story even thinner and that would make any minor issues people have with this film seem all the more major then what they already are but I will admit that this film does have some pretty good pacing to it tho.

So now then since this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that thew actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Altho that's also the issue as alot of this films action isn't all that good either with the film not really taking fully advantage of the fact that it has to giant monsters fighting each other which is a shame because when we do get some good action in this film it is genuinely some really good action to see in the film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall as I said this is a really fun film and I can very easily see why this film is possibly a huge fan favorite as it is just that good of a film to watch and is great film to introduce kids to both Godzilla and Kong alike in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review which really does infact mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.
