Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken Film Review

Dreamworks Animation has been quite a role recently with alot of their recent films being not only box office hits but critical darlings. Well now after about a month of waiting i'm now finally able to review their latest movie which is also a movie that i've been really excited about seeing as did look like a really fun movie and so then join me as I review the movie that dared to open up the exact same day as Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny with the film in question being called simply just "Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when average teenager Ruby Gillman finds out that she's a kraken she must protect her home town from an evil mermaid hell bent on getting revenge on something that Ruby's mother did in the past. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot being predictable but also enjoyable at the exact same time in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Lana Condor as Ruby Gillman , Toni Collette as Agatha Gillman and Annie Murphy as Chelsea Van Der Zee. Also starring in this film is Colman Domingo as Arthur Gillman , Jane Fonda as Grandmamah , Sam Richardson as Brill , Will Forte as Captain Gordon Lighthouse , Jaboukie Young-White as Connor , Liza Koshy as Margot , Blue Chapman as Sam Gillman , Eduardo Franco as Trevin and Ramona Young as Bliss.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films cast turning in some decent performances but the issue is tho is that this films script doesn't give the cast anything to work with interms of what their respective characters personalities even are and so the cast can;t really turn that good of a performance because this films script just simply won't allow for it.

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at DreamWorks Animation and Bully Productions. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad altho this films animation doesn't really standout all that much from other CGI animated films either.

This film does of course include a rather obvious knock off of Ariel from The Little Mermaid with the character of Chelsea Van Der Zee looking exactly like Ariel from the original 1989 The Little Mermaid movie. Which I just loved because it came across as Dreamworks taking shots at Disney but not in a mean spirited kind of way and given just how well Dreamworks Animation have been doing lately they have earned the right to be a little bit cocky but I would have liked it if it wasn't such an obvious knock off tho.

Dreamworks Animation are usually pretty good when it comes to marketing there movies and so it comes as shock to learn that they barely marketed this movie at all. Heck they only released one teaser trailer and one fully length trailer for the film just a few months before the film was about to be released heck the fans we're doing more promotion for this movie then actual Dreamworks Animation were and yet Dreamworks Animation was surprised when the film bombed at the box office this just goes to show you that it doesn't matter if you made the greatest movie ever made as it won't make any money if people don't know about it and people didn't know about this movie and because of that it didn't even make back it's seventy million dollar budget instead making just a little bit over thirty four million dollars in total.

This films action to me just felt really bland with them not really taking full advantage of Ruby's kraken powers. Which is a shame because they spend a good portion of the movie setting up her powers and yet they hardly use them in the final battle and the same goes for the obvious villain of the movie as well as there powers aren't used at all which is a shame because that could have made for a really fun and really creative final action sequence but instead what we got was a stereotypical final action scene and nothing more then that.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty one and eleven seconds. Which both works for and against this film it works for this film as this film really does have just the right amount of plot there to cover that large amount of a running time and it works against the film as it means things like character development and world building have to get pushed to side because the film has to rush along to the next plot point with this not really being helped by the films incredibly fast pacing which means that plot points really don't feel earned.

So now then since this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that good. With this film not really having that many actually funny jokes which is a shame because the central idea for the film does lend itself to some very funny jokes indeed in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film felt like such a waste of a good idea which is a shame as this film had all the potential in the world to be a decent film and the fact that Dreamworks Animation are releasing this film on Digital just under a MONTH after it's theatrical release just goes to show you that they weren't willing to give this film a fair chance at the box office which means that will end up loosing alot of money in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that means that this film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Dreamworks Animation fandom wiki page , the official Disney fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very film being obviously the official Dreamworks Animation fandom wiki page since really alot of the images that are from this film and that are all currently still up and on the official Dreamworks Animation fandom wiki page are all really fairly freaking high in quality and as well as them all really being really fairly freaking high in definition.
