Nimona Film Review

 

We are now living in age were a comic book movie can not only be number one at the box office but also hold that spot for a quite a weeks. As such we now have to wonder comic book fans if the future of comic book movies isn't in live action but rather in animation well Netflix have just released their first animated comic book movie and so then join me as I review the film that was once cancelled before being resurrected again by a different company with the film in question being called simply just "Nimona" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a Queen of a medevil futuristic city is seemingly killed of by an innocent man it's up to the man and his sidekick to find out who really killed and stop their evil scheme once and or all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being really engaging and rather refreshing as well as being really entertaining in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Chloë Grace Moretz as Nimona , Riz Ahmed as Ballister Boldheart and Eugene Lee Yang as Ambrosius Goldenloin. Also starring inn this film is Frances Conroy as The Director , Lorraine Toussaint as Queen Valerin , Beck Bennett as Sir Thoddeus Sureblade , RuPaul Charles as Nate Knight , Indya Moore as Alamzapam Davis , Julio Torres as Diego the Squire , Sarah Sherman as Coriander Cavaverish and Karen Ryan as Gloreth.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which isn't all that surprising as this film is made up of some really talented actors and actresses and so then it would only make sense that they would all turn in some really good performances in this very film.

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Double Negative. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good and while it's not as different as the makers of the film made it out to be as it looks shockingly like RWBY the animation that's in this film is still really good.

This film is based of off the 2012 webcomic of the exact same name which was written by ND Stevenson. I can't say for sure of this film is an accurate representation of the book as i've never even read the book but based of off a quick read of the books Wikipedia page the film does seem like a more tamer version of the books storyline with the book going to some pretty dark places whereas the film just won't go to those places at all which is shocking as the film ad the books creator working on it and so they could have gone to those dark places but they openly chose not to.

I;m not going to bore you with all of the details surrounding this films production but to cut a long story short this film was almost fully made by Blue Sky Studios prior to being bought out by Disney who then promptly cancelled the film only for the film to get picked up by Annapurna Pictures. Who then got Netflix to agree to agree to distribute the film which is most likely the smartest move that they could have made as the current animation landscape interms of theatrically released films isn't that good bu streaming animated films tend to be alot better.

I'm not going to lie I straight up hated Nimona as a character just because she came across as being really unlikable with her having no redeeming qualities. Which might be the point of the film and while that is fine for someone who is meant to be the films main villain but it's not something that works for the main hero of the film as it doesn't give you a reason to want to see this character succeed and while she does get some pretty decent jokes in this film none of those jokes make her an actually likable character.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty two minuets and forty five seconds. Which for a story that's this thin is a bit on the long side and as such the film does suffer from being on repeat mode alot of the time with the characters either planning to do something evil or doing something evil with their being very little plot given to us inbetween the two sets of scenes and there's only so long you can see that happening before it gets boring and this film really isn't helped by the fact that it has really some pretty bad pacing to it as well.

So now then since this an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However that's also the issue as this films action wasn't all that good either as this films action while having alot of really cool moments in them was also just flat boring and lifeless in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Overall this film is a pretty decent but that's all it is it gives you everything that you want from a film like this but it doesn't give you things that you didn't know that you wanted either in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.
