Hellboy 2004 Film Review
We are living in a world were comic book movies are getting alot more respect from Hollywood then ever before. However that wasn't always the case and with there being a ton of comic book movies out there there is bound to be one or two that are just straight up forgotten about by the mainstream audience and so then join me as I review the film that proved that Guillermo Del Toro was more then just a one hit wonder with his comic book movies with the film in question being called simply just "Hellboy" enjoy.
The plot of this movie is when a resurrected Grigori Rasputin tries to trigger the apocalypse it's up to Hellboy to help to save the world. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being rather engaging in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Ron Perlman as Hellboy , the late Sir John Hurt as Trevor Bruttenholm and Selma Blair as Liz Sherman. Also starring in this film is Rupert Evans as John Myers , Karel Roden as Grigori Rasputin , Jeffrey Tambor as Tom Manning , Doug Jones as Abe Sapien , David Hyde Pierce as The Voice Of Abe Sapien , Brian Steele as Sammael , Ladislav Beranas as Karl Ruprecht Kroenen and Biddy Hodson as Ilsa Haupstein.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which really isn't all that surprising as pretty much all of Guillermo Del Toro's have some really good acting within them and this film is really helped by the fact that the film is so perfectly cast that it's hard to imagine anybody else but these actors playing these roles because that's just how good this films cast is.
Doing the CGI for this film is The Orphanage , Eden FX , CafeFX , HimAnI Productions , Black Box Digital and Fantasy II Film Effects. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that' actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty alot better then what I remember it being and alot better then what it really had any right to be as this film is a mid 2000's film and so then nobody would be expected great or even good CGI from this film and yet this films CGI still manages to hold up to this very day.
Everything about this movie just screams cool to me from the acting to the characters themselves this film is just pure cool. Which is something that I really liked about this film as unlike alot of the more recent MCU films this film isn't trying to hip and cool it just s and that's what you get when you get some body who knows these characters inside and out and knows how to write for these characters which is something that alot of these more modern MCU films are very sadly lacking and because of that those film come across as trying to hard to be cool.
Given how popular this films writer and director Guillermo Del Toro has come in the decades since this movies release. Im shocked that more of his fans haven't started looking at his comic book movies like this movie and Blade 2 for example because from both of those movies you can see alot of the things that made him more well known with the more modern mainstream audiences and this movie does go to show that if you have he right creative team behind any adaptation then you'll end up with noting but pure gold with Guillermo Del Toro being the absolutely right man to make these early live action Hellboy movies.
There are a few major downsides to this film tho with the first one being alot of this films side characters aren't as fully developed as it's main characters and as such comes across as being rather two dimensional. Another major issue with this film is the fact that the villains themselves aren't really that fully developed either with them coming across as being just for the sake of being evil and while we do get to find out what their goal is it doesn't really make them interesting characters all it does is make them dull and bring characters that i'll rather happily admit do indeed have some really cool designs to them.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twelve minuets and twenty nine seconds. Which is another major issue for this film as this film really doesn't need to be that long at all with this being even more of an issue when you take into account that the film really doesn't have alot their in it's plot to cover that large amount of running time and as such there are huge portions of the films running time where nothing is happening to advance the overall plot of the film but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then since this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really cool and was alot better then what I really thought that it would be as action in comic book movies released around this same time was usually pretty lame and un-creative where as the opposite is true for the action in this film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is one of the few forgotten comic book movies that deserves to be remembered as it is just that good of a film and it's one that still holds up almost twenty years later in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very film being obviously Google Images since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still up on Google Images are all really fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being really fairly freaking high in definition.
