Beau Is Afraid Film Review

 

Some films don't need much to get people excited as sometimes all they need to do is announce who is directing the film and that's it. Well films fans one such a film has just been released and since i'm fan of this directors work you all just knew that I had to check this film the very first chance that I got and so then join me as I review the film that can only be described as weird with the film in question being called simply just "Beau Is Afraid" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when is mother dies Beau must travel to his home and along the way confront everything that scares him. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was kin all honesty not that bad with this films plot being genuinely quite engaging in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Joaquin Phoenix as Beau Wassermann , Armen Nahapetian as Teen Beau and Patti LuPone as Mona Wassermann. Also starring in this film is Zoe Lister-Jones as Young Mona , Amy Ryan as Grace , Nathan Lane as Roger , Kylie Rogers as Toni , Denis Ménochet as Jeeves , Parker Posey as Elaine Bray , Julia Antonelli as Teen Elaine , Richard Kind as Dr. Cohen and Hayley Squires as Penelope.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with all of this films cast members turning in some really good performances.

This movie is a tragedy in every sense of the word as we get to see Murphy's law come into play all throughout this movie. As anything bad that could happen to this character does happen to him and sometimes it's something that's so absurd you can't help but laugh at it but other times it's something that's so tragic that you can;t help but feel sorry for our main character and all of this is played wonderfully by Joaquin Phoenix who makes each of these accidents seem real and that really does help to make this character all the more likable.

One word that i've seen being thrown around when people have been talking about this movie online is weird and yeah I agree. As this movie is so weird and sometimes that works to the movies advantage and other times it doesn't and as such it comes across as being weird just for the sake of being weird and not because it has anything to say about it's main character or relate it whatever the character is going through at that point in the film which is a shame because there are parts of this movie where the weirdness could have helped Beau to potentially get over whatever it is that he's afraid of at that point in the film.

I can't even begin to describe to you all just how weird this movie is because just when you think that you've seen all the weirdness that this movie has to over it'll then top it in the very next scene. All of which makes me wonder what in the heck the point of making the movie this strange and this bizarre was as it gets to the point where us the audience are left wondering what the heck is going and all that serves to do is take you out of the film as it then just reminds you that your watching a film and nothing more then that.

To this movies credit the character of Beau is likable as all heck with the character just wanting to get home to take of some family business sand seeing Beau struggle to get home makes him all the more likable. What takes away from his likability tho is the fact that we he spends alot of the film screaming and complaining which I get it might be the point of the movie but at the exact same time tho your main character or your hero character is still meant to be likable and not annoying and while Beau starts of as being likable by the end of the film I found him to be really pretty annoying.

Now then this film has . had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and fifty six minuets and fifty four seconds. Which is far two long for this film and that's something that i've noticed alot of people complaining about as well as the film really doesn't need to be that long at all and all of this made even worse when you take into account that the story is fairly thin at best and so an already thinly drawn out story is now stretched even thinner by having a much more longer running time and this film isn't help by the fact that this film has some really slow pacing to it as well. 

So now since this is meant to be a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Ad this film does have some really funny dark and mean spirited jokes in it but at the same time this film also has alot more really unfunny jokes in it as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this is a good film it's also not the best film that this films writer , director and producer Ari Aster has worked on which is a shame because when he gets it right he really does get it right in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
