Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review

 

Video games Hollywood has had a bit of a track record of making bad movies out of good video games and board games. However they have started to learn this lesson a little bit with movies like Mortal Kombat 2021 , Pokemon Detective Pikachu and Sonic The Hedgehog however those movies were based off of video games the movie i'm about to watch today is based off of a board game and so then join as give my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that proves that a fun movie doesn't always make a fun movie with the film in question being called simply just "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when his daughter is kidnapped and he is framed for stealing that he didn't steal a thieve will team up with a bunch of alleys in order to rescue his daughter. Now then interms of what I personally / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad altho it's a plot line that really doesn't take full advantage of it's fantasy setting in my opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Star Trek and Wonder Woman star Chris Pine as Edgin Darvis and Fast And The Furious franchise star Michelle Rodriguez as Holga Kilgore. Also starring in this film is Regé-Jean Page as Xenk Yendar , Justice Smith as Simon Aumar , IT and IT Chapter 2 star Sophia Lillis as Doric , Hugh Grant as Forge Fitzwilliam , Daisy Head as Sofina , Jason Wong as Dralas and Avatar: The Way Of Water star Chloe Coleman as Kira Darvis.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With all of this films cast members doing their best to make this films script work for them but the issue is tho that this films script gives none of these actors nothing to work wot interms of what there characters personalities are and as such that aren't really allowed to  turn that good of a performance because the script just won;t allow for it.

Doing the CGI for this film is the greats and the legends that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic , Moving Picture Company and Legacy Effects. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad since there are some a very good looking CGI shots in this film however with that being said this film does also alot of very ad looking CGI shots as well.

This should come as a surprise to absolutely nobody whatsoever but the online group who have been keeping Dungeons & Dragons in the public eye Critical Role have a cameo appearance in this film. I can;t say where they appear in this film since I don't watch Critical Role but it's nice that the makers of this film gave them roles in this film and it's great that these people get to live in the world that they so clearly love as well and it's something for fans of both D&D and Critical Role to watch out for in this film.

Try as I might I can't talk about this film and not talk about the fact that co-writers and co-directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein openly stated that they intentionally emasculated the film's leading men. They do state in an article for CBR that's not for woke reasons and that is for just to make the movie more fun but to that I say that they do it with any of the female characters when you could have plenty of laughs from those characters as well this does present a major issue when the film wants to get more emotional since all of the male characters have either been presented as either dumb as a rock or just straight up evil and so the films many emotional moments now just flat don't work. 

I will admit that at times this movie can be a pretty fun with the films escape sequences being a prime example of that. Heck it;s during those sequences and the character interaction that the film feels more like a fun filled movie instead of being what it is and that's an average video game adaption which is a shame because this film does feel very welcoming to people who haven't played the games at all which is something that can't be said for alot of bad video game movies that are out there right now where it feels like you have to do homework just to understand what's going on in the movie.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and six minuets and forty nine seconds. With this film really being alot longer then what it really needed to since you very easily could have told this films story in well under one hour and forty minuets all by just trimming down all of this films fat all of this would have made the film alot more quicker paced since every scene would need to be advancing the plot of the movie and it would mean that alot of this films filler scenes would need to be cut out of the film.

So now then since this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With pretty much all of this films action sequences boiling down to Michelle Rodriguez just being awesome which is to be expected but that does get boring tom watch after a while tho in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film is a pretty fun movie but at the same time it's also a movie that I can see not attracting fans into playing D&D but when this movie wants to be fun it can be a really fun movie to watch in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
