Puss In Boots: The Last Wish Film Review

 

The Shrek franchise has long been dead for a decade now at least when it comes to the movies anyways. Well there is a new film that's set within this franchise and well then given that I grew up with the Shrek franchise I thought that it was only right that I check this new film and so then join me as I review the film that attempts to revive a long since dead and buried franchise with the film in question being called simply just "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" enjoy.

The plot of this film is Puss suddenly finds himself on his last life and so embarks on a quest to find the mythical Last Wish to restore eight of nine lives. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty average at best with this films plot just being very boring , predictable and rather uninspired as well as being really very generic as all heck in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots , Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws and Harvey Guillén as Perrito. Also starring in this film is Florence Pugh as Goldilocks , Olivia Colman as Mama Bear , Ray Winstone as Papa Bear , Samson Kayo as Baby Bear , John Mulaney as "Big" Jack Horner , Wagner Moura as Big Bad Wolf , Da'Vine Joy Randolph as Mama Luna and Kevin McCann as The Talking Cricket.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However that's also the issue because this films acting isn't all that good either which given who is starring in this film is really shocking since we know that this films cast can indeed do some great performances and yet here they just choose not to do so and not helping things is the fact that this films script is just bad with it giving none of this films actors anything to work with interms of what there characters personalities even are.

Doing the animation for this film is of course the legends and the greats that are currently over at Pacific Data Images. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this film taking alot of inspiration from Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse which isn't a bad idea on paper but when you take into account that all of the previous movies have there own unique style and this film goes against that style then that inspiration really does start to fall apart.

This is the first entry into the Shrek franchise since the 2011 film Puss In Boots and while that film was a success. Instead of releasing the sequel just a few short years later for some strange reason the makers of this film chose to wait eleven years so instead of striking while the iron is hot now the iron is stone cold since there hasn't been any meaningful entry into the Shrek franchise in the intervening years and that is something that does effect this film and it's something that I can see effect this films box office as well.

Not really helping things is the fact that this films central villain jus isn't that good as a villain at all heck this films villain isn't even that scary. Since we don't get to spend that much time with this films villain and so there's no scenes where the villain can be fully developed which is a shame because this villain main goal is not only very clearly spelt out but it's also a very unique idea and it's one that would fit in perfectly well with the Shrek franchise. 

The side characters do fair fairly better tho with this film giving us a somewhat unique take on both Goldilocks and the three bears. I'm not going to spoil what that take is but it's one that oddly fits given who they've cast to play all of those characters and it really does help that the film really does take the time to fully develop all four characters even making their plot tie into the actual plot of the main film as well.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty three minuets and thirty four seconds. I have to admit that this films running time really does fly by and this film really does have more then enough there interms of plot to cover that amount of running time and with this film rally just flying by it really does have some good pacing as well with no scene lasting any long then what it really needs to.

So now then since this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Since we do get to see some really cool moments but at the same time this films action just feels tame and isn't really that exciting at all in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while it is somewhat good to the Shrek franchise make a comeback this film is about six years to late to do anything meaningful and so this film just feels like a poorly thought out cash grab in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film erns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
