Weird: The Al Yankovic Story Film Review
Lately we've been getting an awful lot of biopics with the most recent one Blonde being released just a few weeks ago. Well now we have another new one to add to that list and what sets this one apart I hear you ask well then it's the fact that it's co-written and produced by the person who is also the subject of the biopic and so then join me as I review the film that is really quite possibly the weirdest biopic out there right now with the film in question being called simply just "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" enjoy.
The plot of the film is after being told by everybody in his life that he can never make it as a musician Alfred Matthew Yankovic sets out to set the world of music on fire. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being just as goofy and as just as out there as you'd expect from the co-writer of UHF in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Daniel Radcliffe as "Weird Al" Yankovic , Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna and Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento. Also starring in this film is Toby Huss as Nick Yankovic , Julianne Nicholson as Mary Yankovic , Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey , Spencer Treat Clark as Steve Jay , Dot-Marie Jones as Mama Bear , Will Forte as Ben Scotti , Scott Aukerman as A Police Officer , James Preston Rogers as Hulk Hogan , Tommy O'Brien as Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz , Nina West as Divine , Arturo Castro as Pablo Escobar , Conan O'Brien as Andy Warhol , Jack Black as Wolfman Jack , Jorma Taccone as Pee-wee Herman , Akiva Schaffer as Alice Cooper , Demetri Martin as Tiny Tim , Paul F. Tompkins as Gallagher , Lin-Manuel Miranda as An ER Doctor , Patton Oswalt as A Heckler , David Dastmalchian as John Deacon and Emo Phillips as Salvador Dali.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With every single one of this films cast members being fully aware of what type of this film that this is and giving a suitable performance in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
This film is a straight up parody of music biopics and of biopics in general even with one of this films posters being a parody of the poster for the film Bohemian Rhapsody. I have to admit that having this film just be a parody of biopics was a great idea since it's very in keeping of "Weird Al" Yankovic and it's something that really does work really well in this films favour in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
The very idea for this film all started all the way back in 2010 when Funny Or Die released a fake trailer for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Heck both the fake trailer and this film even had the exact same director in Eric Appel and while I haven't seen the fake trailer I would be interested in seeing it just to see what ideas from the fake trailer crossed over into the movie since the fake trailer does sound quite interesting in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
While most music biopics and biopics in general claim to be one hundred percent true an accurate this one fully embraces the fact that it's not accurate. By going full on absurd with one key plot line and even by messing around with which song came first Eat or Beat It this was such a genius move as it allowed the film to be a full on parody of biopics whilst at the same time being a biopic itself and it really does make me wonder why more biopics like this one aren't getting made because the entire biopic genre is ripe for parodying in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
There are some bad things in this film tho like the fact this film has a weird mish mash of tones which doesn't work at all. Since it makes you wonder if you should be laughing or if you should be feeling sad for the characters which is a shame because when this film gets something right it really does get it right I also didn't like the fact that this film does make up things which I get it is part of the joke but at the same time you watch a biopic to learn things about whom ever the biopic is about and while making this film a parody is very in keeping with "Weird Al" Yankovic it's not something that doesn't always work that well with this film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty seven minuets and forty one seconds. Which I perhaps one of this films biggest strengths since this film really doesn't have alot there in terms of plot and so by having this film last as along as it does means that every scene has to be advancing the plot of the film and that is something that this film does wonderfully and with no scene lasting as long as it needs to it means that the film has some really good pacing to it as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
So now then since this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured /presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this whole film basically being one big joke and heck that's not even the best joke in the movie since that honor goes to both what they do with a certain female celebrity singer and how this film ends really being the best jokes in the entire movie in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall while i'm glad to have seen this film I really think that this movie won't find mainstream appeal just because of the fact that Weird Al himself isn't that mainstream in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked abut all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and well then that means that this very film erns itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Weird Al Yankovic fandom wiki page , the official Netflix fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very / particular / exact film being Google Images since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still indeed up on Google Images are all really fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being fairly freaking high in definition.
