The School For Good And Evil Film Review

 

Netflix has been very hit and miss when it comes to there films and just when you think there starting to finally release good solid films they go ahead and release the film that i'm about to review for you all today. Just to make things clear I went into this film wanting it to be good but this film just isn't that good and so then join me as I review the film that is a rip off of both Descendants and the Harry Potter franchise with the film in question being called simply just "The School For Good And Evil" enjoy.

The plot of this film is two best friends are kidnapped and taken to a magical school that trains both heroes and villains. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty rather weak and heck the only bit of plot that I could find was what I summarized for you all and that's not good enough for anything at all in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Starring in this film is Sofia Wylie as Agatha , Sophia Anne Caruso as Sophie and Laurence Fishburne as The School Master. Also starring in this film is Michelle Yeoh as Prof. Emma Anemone , Jamie Flatters as Tedros , Kit Young as Rafal / Rhian , Peter Serafinowicz as Yuba , Kerry Washington as Prof. Clarissa Dovey , Charlize Theron as Lady Leonora Lesso , Freya Theodora Parks as Hester , Demi Isaac Oviawe as Anadil , Kaitlyn Akinpelumi as Dot , Mark Heap as Professor Bilious Manley , Rob Delaney as Stefan , Rachel Bloom as Honora and Cate Blanchett as The Narrator/ The Voice Of The Storian.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty the best part of the film. Since every single one of this films cast really do turn in good performances in this film and they really do their best to try and elevate what can only be described as a very bad film script in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Doing the CGI for this film is Blue Blaze Studios , the legends and the greats that are currently over at Double Negative and Image Engine Design. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films CGI looking very good for the most part but then you'd very quickly get one or two very bad looking effects which really do bring down the overall quality of the effects that are in this very film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

This film is of course based off of the 2013 book of the same name with the book being written by author Soman Chainani. I have to admit that i'd never read either this book or any of it's sequels heck I didn't even know that this film was based off of a book until doing research for this review and I have to say that based upon the quick reading I did on the books Wikipedia page this film does seem like a fairly accurate representstion of the book which is sure to please book fans however that's also the problem since what might work well enough in a book might not and in this case doesn't work well in a film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Visually this film does look good but having good visuals doesn't make a good film since you need alot more then that for the film to be good. Take for example the script which in this case is just plain bad with the films script not really taking the time to set up what our characters personalities are and so then the films characters come across as being very one note and so when it comes to the inevitable third act falling out it doesn't quite work because this films characters just don't work at all in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.   

This film really doesn't do a good job of setting up the world in which it takes place since we know nothing about this films world. Nor do we know what the rules of this film are which is basic screenwriting and while the fans of the books might know what the rules of this world are the average movie fans won't and that's who you have to appeal to when your making an adaptation of anything in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of a whopping two hours and twenty eight minuets and fifty four seconds. Which makes this film a chore to sit through because for the largest amount of time we are just seeing these characters just gong through there day to day lives at this school which isn't a good thing because there's nothing interesting about this school and so to dedicate this long a running time when you don't really need to is a bad thing in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

So now then since this is an action film that means that I have to talk about all of the action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films action being really good since we do get to see some pretty cool and creative action moments in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while I can see this film pleasing fans of the books I can't really see it pleasing the average movie fan since there's nothing about this film that the average movie fan would like or even love in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film erns itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.
