The Mask 1994 Film Review
Comic book fans we are now currently living in a golden age of comic book movies where they treat there source material somewhat respectfully and adapt them somewhat faithfully. However that wasn't always the case tho case in point the film that i'm about to review for you all today with this film becoming so popular that it caused it's original comic book series to become more like this film and less like the dark , gritty and at times damn right scary book series that it was originally and so then join me as I review the film that introduced the film to Cameron Diaz with the film in question being called simply just "The Mask" enjoy.
The plot of the film is hapless bank clerk named Stanley Ipkiss accidently stumbles upon a green wooden mask which gives him superpowers and so then it's up to Stanley to defeat an evil mob boss before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot being dumb but enjoyably dumb in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Jim Carrey as Stanley Ipkiss / The Mask , Peter Greene as Dorian Tyrell and Cameron Diaz as Tina Carlyle. Also starring in this film is Orestes Matacena as Niko , Peter Riegert as Lieutenant Mitch Kellaway , Jim Doughan as Detective Doyle , Richard Jeni as Charles "Charlie" Schumaker , Amy Yasbeck as Peggy Brandt , Jeremy Roberts as Bobby and Ben Stein as Dr. Arthur Neuman.
Now then interms of what I personally thought /felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With the true standout performer in this film being of course the great Jim Carrey who simply steals the show as both Stanley Ipkiss and as The Mask in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Doing the CGI effects for this film is Dream Quest Images and the legends and the greats that are currently over at Industrial Light & Magic. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with all of this films CGI effects not only holding up really well but they also all look really good with there cartoonish nature adding alot of charm to both them and this film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
This film likes to play with your expectations especially with who Stanley will end up with since we are led to believe that he will end up Peggy who for most part is being presented to us as good girl type of character. Where as the Tina character is being presented to us as mobsters girlfriend and could thus cause harm to Stanley and so then it comes as a shock to us the audience when it turns out that Peggy is the one that's harmful for Stanley and Tina is the one that genuinely loves him in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
As mentioned this film is adapted from the 1991 Dark Horse Comics comic book of the exact same name. I will say that thus film is radically different from the original comic book since the original comic book is alot more violent and a lot gory then this film with The Mask's more cartoonish aspects only being seen just to him and him alone and so when he does some cartoonish type violence in the comic book he actually does hurt who ever he's trying to hurt and plus Stanley dies at the end of the first storyline and so I really do think that the filmmakers making the changes that they made worked well enough for the film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Sadly this film isn't perfect since it does have some faults the first of which being that Stanley and Tina have no romantic chemistry with each other which given that there meant to be each others love interest is a very big issue. The other thing that I didn't like about the film is the fact that the main villain really isn't that threatening since he comes across as being more of a cartoony villain which might be in keeping with this version of The Mask character but it doesn't make for a great or even scary villain in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Now then while I cannot for the absolutely cannot for the life of me remember whatever this films running time even was but I do know that for a fact that this film has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly one hour and thirty seven minuets. Which is an incredibly short amount of time for this film since it does have alot to set up and still tell a good story and while it does still do that I think that this film should have at the very least have been twenty minuets longer just so that it could do a much more better job of setting up the world in which this film takes place in in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
So now then since this is a comedy that means that J have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films jokes not only holding up really well but also landing and getting a big laugh out of me because that's how good this films jokes are in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is a good example of how good comic book movies could be when there made by really talented filmmakers who are willing to change the source material in order to fit the leading actor in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this film gets an 8 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Warner Bros. fandom wiki page , IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very / particular / exact film being Google Images since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still indeed up on Google Images are all really fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being fairly freaking high in definition.
