Godzilla 1998 Film Review
Godzilla fans the king of the monsters has been a pop culture icon since the nineteen fifties however that doesn't mean that all of his attempts to be in a good American film payed of. Case in point the film that i'm going to review for you all today since this film was the first fully American production of the Godzilla franchise so then join me as I review the film that gave the us the world famous "That's Alot Of Fish" line with the freaking film in question being called simply just "Godzilla" enjoy.
The plot of this film is Godzilla starts attacking New York City and it's up to the Army to find out why before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty just average at best which is a shame because the general idea for this films plot is a fairly good idea in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Matthew Broderick as Dr. Niko "Nick" Tatopoulos and Jean Reno as Philippe Roaché. Also starring in this film is Maria Pitillo as Audrey Timmonds , Hank Azaria as Victor "Animal" Palotti , Kevin Dunn as Colonel Hicks , Michael Lerner as Mayor Ebert , Harry Shearer as Charles Caiman , Arabella Field as Lucy Palotti , Vicki Lewis as Dr. Elsie Chapman , Lorry Goldman as Gene , Doug Savant as Sergeant O'Neal and Nancy Cartwright as Caiman's Secretary.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. Yes the likes of Matthew Broderick do turn in the stereotypical wooden as a plank of wood performances that you expect from them but the overall quality of the acting that we get in this film is average at best in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Now then I really cannot who did the CGI for this film which is a good thing given that I really didn't like the CGI that's in this film. I make it no secret that I didn't like the CGI in this film which even for a late nineties film still looks really bad with there being alot more bad looking CGI shots then there is alot more good looking CGI shots which just goes to show you just how exactly bad the CGI in this film well and truly is which shouldn't be the case since they did actually film alot of man in suit footage of Godzilla but for weird reason they just replaced it all with CGI which is not a good thing at all in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
There's one line in this film that I think we all remember not because it's good line but rather because it's a bad line line of dialog. In all honesty how somebody thought that "That's alot of fish" was a good line of dialog is well and truly beyond me because it's not heck it's not a good line of comedic dialog either it's just a line of dialog that makes our main character look stupid and it just goes to show just how exactly bad the writing and the dialog in this film well and truly is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
This film is just so freaking stupid and dumb as all heck and not in a good way either like for example there are several times in the movie where Godzilla just straight up disappears. Like how do you loose something that's taller then most of the buildings in New York City an why did the filmmakers think that that was a good idea to have in the film because it's not a good idea at all since it makes your characters look dumb and your audience just won't be willing to accept because your audience is smarter then what alot of freaking filmmakers will give them credit for in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
We have to talk about this film pretty much just killed the character of Godzilla since this films version of Godzilla has nothing in common with the original character. Since all of the things that you expect to see in any version of the Godzilla character is gone heck it's so bad that the makers of the original Godzilla films walked out of a screening of this film proclaiming that the makers of this film took the God out of Godzilla because that's how bad this films version of Godzilla is in both personality , powers and design wise in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and eighteen minuets and forty three seconds. Which for any film is a slightly long running time but for a Godzilla film it's a really long running time even more so when you take into account that this is a bad Godzilla film which means that we're stuck watching the slow death of a beloved character for nearly two hours and thirty minuets and this film doesn't have enough there interms of either plot or story to cover that running and as such this film should have at the very least have been two hours long in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
So now then since this film is an action film after all that means that I have to talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film and well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty the best part of this movie. Simply because this is where this films co-writer , co-executive producer and director Roland Emmerich's strengths lie and this is wear the film becomes at least so bad it's good for me personally in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this was a solid first attempt at making an American produced Godzilla film but like I said this film removed everything that made Godzilla the character that we all know and love and so it was always doomed to be a failure in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film erns itself a grand old score of exactly a 5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Game Of Thrones fandom wiki page , the official Godzilla fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very / particular / exact film being obviously the official Godzilla fandom wiki page since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still indeed up on the official Godzilla fandom wiki page are all fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being fairly freaking high in definition.
