Luca Film SPOILER FREE!!!!! Review
Disney and PIXAR fans both Walt Disney Pictures and PIXAR are back with a new animated film which just like Soul this film is being released straight to Disney+. Now then I will very fully admit that this is a film that I really wasn't that hyped for simply because i've learnt not to get to hyped about a film during this pandemic as it could get delayed but I did male a special note to review this film as soon as it came out and well it's just been released and so join me as I review the second ever PIXAR film to be released straight to Disney+ with the film in question being called simply just "Luca" and yes this review is going to be SPOILER FREE and so you can read this review and nothing important to the actual story of the film or for the film it's self will be spoiled for you and so enjoy the review every one and everybody.
The plot of this film is Luca is a a thirteen year old sea monster longs to see what's on the surface and one day he ventures up to the surface with the help of his new friend a fellow sea monster called Alberto and once on the surface the duo begin to discover the joys of being human and as well as the pitfalls of being human and what it truly means to be best friends with each other. In terms of what I personally thought about the plot of the film in all honesty I thought that the plot of this film was for me at least the weakest aspect of the film since it was very hard for me to work what the actual plot of the film was but with that being said when the plot does indeed decide to show up the plot of this film can be very interesting it's just a shame that the plot of this film wasn't really given that much of a freaking focus.
Starring in this film is Jacob Tremblay as Luca Paguro , Jack Dylan Grazer as Alberto Scorfano and Emma Berman as Giulia Marcovaldo. Also starring in this film is Marco Barricelli as Massimo Marcovaldo , Saverio Raimondo as Ercole Visconti , Maya Rudolph as Daniela Paguro , Jim Gaffigan as Lorenzo Paguro , Sandy Martin as Grandma Paguro , Giacomo Gianniotti as Giacomo , Marina Massironi as Mrs. Marsigliese and the always great and the always funny as all heck Sacha Baron Cohen as Uncle Ugo.
As for what I personally thought about the acting that's featured / presented to us in this film in all honesty the acting that's featured / presented to us in this film is in all honesty really freaking good. Which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone since the acting in pretty much all of PIXAR's films is really good and so it's not really a surprise then that the acting in this film also has some really freaking good acting within it.
Now then of course doing the animation for this film are the greats that are currently over at Pixar Animation Studios. Since this film is a PIXAR film you just know that the animation is going to be top quality and the same thing is true for this film since the / this film is very visually stunning with every single piece of detail from the town in which this film is set really shining through and all of the characters have fast paced movements which really do help with the films more fast past and almost anarchic energy.
Now then boys and girls as I mentioned at the very start of this review this film is the second film made by PIXAR to be released straight on to Disney+. Which while that move was very understandable when it came to Soul it's really that understandable now since now at least in America theatres / cinema are pretty much close to being fully opened and so releasing this movie on Disney+ just doesn't make that much sense to me since yes there will still be alot of people who won't feel safe yet in going to either a theatre or a cinema but at the same time there will most be long time PIXAR fans who for one reason or another don't have Disney+ and can thus only see PIXAR films and PIXAR short films in a theatre / cinema.
Now then boys and girls i've been pretty freaking positive about this film and for good reason because this is a really good film but there are some things about this film that I just straight up didn't like. Like for example the character designs since to me these character designs are taking the more modern cartoon TV show approach in which every character basically has the modern The CalArts style of design which I personally found to be kind of off putting since that approach to character design just doesn't really work or even mesh well with the world that was created for this film.
The other thing that I really didn't like about this film is the fact that it's basically a lier revelled story and so you can kind of see where the main character down point in the film is going to be. However to this films credit they did do something that kind really did surprise me with the character down point in this film which was honestly something that I didn't see coming and it almost makes up for the fact that like I said this film is basically a lier revelled kind of story and I always hate those kind of stories just due to how predictable those kinds of stories well and truly are in my opinion anyways / at least anyways.
Now then boys and girls this film has a grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty five minuets and fifteen seconds and well I honestly felt that that running time was the right amount of time for this film. Which is due to the fact that this film as it is doesn't put alot of focus on it's actual plot (since the main focus of this film seems to be developing the characters and making us care for the characters instead of telling a really an actually really good or even an actually really great story) which is a shame because this film has more then enough story to cover hat running time.
Now then boys and girls this film is a comedy film after all and so that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that is / that's featured / presented to us in the actual film itself and if i'm being honest here boys and girls and ladies and gentlemen the comedy that's featured / presented to us in this film was for me at least a very mixed bag of affairs. Since for every good joke that landed in this film there are two three bad jokes that quickly followed it but as I always so say tho all forms of comedy is very subjective and so what I found to be funny you guys might not find to be funny and what guys find to be funny I personally might not find to be very funny at all.
Overall this film film was for me at least and in my opinion anyways / at least a huge step down in quality from Soul which is a shame because there is alot you can see the film makers trying to make this film a good film but because they hired a first time feature film director to direct this film I personally feel that that first feature film director bit of a bit more then he could / can chew. Now then i've talked about both of the good and as well as both of the bad things that are in this film in this very review and as such this film gets a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
As for where I got the images that I used in this very review well then boys and girls and ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official PIXAR fandom wiki page , the official Disney fandom wiki page and from Google Images. With my personal preferred website to us to get the images from this very film that I did infact end up using in this very review being the official Disney fandom wiki page simply just due . down to the fact that pretty much all of the images that are featured / presented to us on the official Disney fandom wiki page are all fairly high quality and as well as being fairly high definition.
