Return To The Batcave: The Misadventures Of Adam And Burt Review

Batman fans i've reviewed alot of films and more to do with the character but the one thing that i've never done is take a look at sixties TV show reunion movie because yes the classic Batman show had a reunion movie and it's just as insane as it sounds. So I thought that since I own this film on DVD that I would take a look at the film since i've never reviewed the movie before now and so here is my review "Return To The Batcave: The Misadventures Of Adam And Burt" enjoy Batman and film fans alike because it really doesn't get any more insane then this film.

The plot of the movie is when the Batmobile is stolen actors Adam West and Burt Ward take it upon themselves to find the vehicle and find out who took it by going over every aspect of there time on the show and hopefully find out why they took it. I said that this movie was insane and I meant it because every thing about the story of this film just screams insane and it oddly works because of that fact since you could argue that this film is done in the style of the classic sixties Batman TV show which did have insane plots and so for this movie to have one oddly makes sense.

Starring in the film is the late and always great Adam West as Himself , Burt Ward as Himself , Jack Brewer as Young Adam West / Batman and Jason Marsden as Young Burt Ward / Robin. Also starring is Frank Gorshin as Himself , Julie Newmar as Herself / Arizona Bar Owner , Lee Meriwether as Waitress in Diner , Jim Jansen as William Dozier , the late Lyle Waggoner as Himself / The Narrator , Curtis Armstrong as Jerry the Butler , Julia Rose as Young Julie Newmar / Catwoman , Erin Carufel as Yvonne Craig/ Batgirl and Brett Rickaby as Young Frank Gorshin / Riddler.

In terms of what I thought about the acting in this film it's exactly what you think it is when you here the words sixties Batman reunion movie. Since yeah the acting in this movie is on par with that found in the actual sixties Batman TV show which to me is a good thing because I think that the acting in that show is honestly really good and it to me proofs that both Adam and Burt will always have the best chemistry both when playing Batman and Robin and when they are playing themselves and as everyone knows playing yourself is always a challenge for any actor since your being your most honest and your not playing a fictional character.

As mentioned this film goes into great detail about the making of the classic sixties Batman TV show and if your a fan of that show i'd highly recommend watching this movie. Simply because the film goes into alot of detail about the making of that show as well as many things that happened when the camera wasn't rolling which to me makes the film really interesting since there's going to be alot of things that we never knew about.

Like a lot of reunion movies this one is a made for TV movie and as such the film has an air of cheapness around it. Which given that it's a TV movie is really something that it couldn't help but at the same time given that it's a reunion movie to one of the biggest things to come out of the sixties and is based on one of the most well known comic book  characters you'd have thought that some effort would have gone into making it look less cheap.

Now the above picture is from the UK DVD cover for this film and it contains one huge mistake that being the fact that the Batman symbol used for the title isn't that of the sixties Batman TV show but rather that of the 1989 film Batman. This is something that really did annoy me since it's such an obvious mistake I honestly cannot believe that it's taken me until now to actually notice this mistake and I honestly feel that a film about the sixties Batman show should have used the correct Batman symbol for it's DVD cover.

Now i'm trying not to give anything away here simply because this insane film truly needs to be seen as such I will not be mentioning who the villain is. I will say tho that it's revealed who the villain is and there reason for doing what they did it's just as insane as the rest of the movie and I honestly loved that but what I didn't love was the fact that there were no clues as to whom the villain is and so it does come out of nowhere.

Another thing that I didn't like was the mystery aspect of the film since like I just said they don't give you any clues and so you can't work it out which is something that I good mystery should do. They only give you two clues at the start of the film and even then one of them is something that's mixed in with the sound as such i would have liked it if there were more clues given so that the viewer could work out who did it when the characters do.

Now then since this is an action comedy that does mean that we have to talk abut both of those elements so let's start with the comedy. The comedy for me was very hit and miss since whenever there was a good joke that honestly got a laugh out of me that would then be followed by a joke which didn't even get a chuckle out of me and sadly alot of those non chuckle jokes were things that Burt Ward (the older Burt not the younger one) said or did but what I might not find funny you guys might find to be the funniest thing ever and now that I think about it one of the fourth wall jokes that Adam says early in the film isn't that funny either.

Now that we've discussed the comedy aspect of the movie it only makes sense that we now talk about the action in the film. Which for a made for TV movie that aired on CBS was honestly really good , the action in this movie was done in the style of the sixties Batman TV show and so it was really over the top with a few comedy spots thrown in for good measure and incase your wondering yes we do get to see the older Adam West and Burt Ward fight.

Overall in terms of reunion movies I can't say if this is the best one or not but in terms of sixties Batman reunion movie it gives you everything you want. The issue is tho that those things don't make it a good film yes they do make it enjoyable to watch and they are in keeping with that show but at the same time those elements don't work when you translate them into a feature film format as such as entertaining as this film is it gets a 5.5 out of 10 from me.

All of the images for this review were gathered from either the official Batman fandom wiki page , Amazon UK , the DC Movie fandom wiki page or Google Images. I really cannot think of a way to make these entertaining since I can't think of any good jokes (oh so like modern Simpsons then) but in my defence it's hard to keep on making these little disclaimers entertaining so yeah if you want high quality images use either of those websites or you'll find yourself stuck in the Batmobile without the key to start it yes i'm that cruel.
