Iron Man 3 Review
Marvel fans i've reviewed alot of movies that the company has put out both as part of their cinematic universe and not. However there are a few films that i've never reviewed and well I thought that i'd review of those movies right now , it's odd that i've never reviewed this movie since I own it on DVD and hell i've barely watched this movie since I got the DVD of it I don't even think i've put it on just as background noise and so here is my review of "Iron Man 3" enjoy.
The plot of the film is a mysterious terrorist known as The Mandarin is reeking havoc across the globe and a new regenerative treatment named Extremis is being used to blow people up and so Tony Stark has to work out if the two are connected and stop them both before it's to late. I have to say that the plot of this movie is in my opinion pretty standerd superhero stuff with nothing new added or nothing new even tried but it's also a story that works.
Reprising their roles from the previous films are Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man , Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia "Pepper" Potts , Don Cheadle as James "Rhodey" Rhodes / Iron Patriot , Jon Favreau as Happy Hogan and Paul Bettany J.A.R.V.I.S.. Joining them are Guy Pearce as Aldrich Killian , Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen , Ty Simpkins as Harley Keener , Stéphanie Szostak as Ellen Brandt and Sir Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery.
In terms of what I thought about the acting in the film it honestly wasn't that bad yes there have been better acted Marvel films but there have also been worse ones as well. The actors that you expect to deliver a great performance in these films like Robert for example do a great job but then there are actors like Sir Ben Kingsley who even tho he does a solid job is let down by the script that's he's given and the fact that his character has no personality to speak of.
Doing the CGI for the film was Weta Digital , Digital Domain and Scanline VFX who worked on Game Of Thrones and the first Iron Man film. In terms of what I thought about the CGI in the film it's honestly pretty good im not going to say that it's great because i'd be lying if I did but at the same time I can't say that it's bad either with the best CGI scene being the attack on Tony's mansion which holds up really well and when this film, first came out I had no idea that this was a fully CGI scene that goes to show you how good the effects in that scene are.
That being since they are using fully CGI Iron Man suits at this point every Iron Man suit you see is fully CGI and yeah not all of it is good. To me those effects look like they were rushed as hell as such the suits don't look as good as they could do and have done in the past which is a shame because when you do get a good looking CGI Iron Man suit in this film it does look but the vast majority of them just look rushed as all hell.
Like many of you I hated what they did with The Mandarin because the original is such a cool villain and is Iron Man's number one foe and so having him in the final solo Iron Man film would've made alot of sense. What didn't make sense is the fact that they chose to pull out a plot twist with the character really being a failed British actor who has the IQ of a rock and the personality of a piece of paper attacked to a rock.
I'm not against the idea of doing a plot twist with this villain but the twist has to make some sort of sense which here is just not the case whatsoever. On top of that the actual main villain Aldrich Killian is just uninteresting and not fun to watch which if your going to do a twist like this then you have to make the actual villain really freaking good otherwise it doesn't work which is sadly what happened here and because of that the film suffers.
This was the first film to come after the massive hit that was Avengers Assemble AKA The Avengers and as such the events of that film actually play into Tony's character in this film. Since we see him struggling with PTSD due to being out in space and we see how that's effected him which isn't good at all since he's basically ignoring Pepper and Happy hand in unable to sleep and this makes a really interesting arc for the character and it's one that I wish more Marvel films dealt with.
Now then boys and girls I came so close to not watching this film today not due to the quality of the film or anything like that but because I couldn't get the film to play on my Xbox. For some reason even tho the main menu had fully loaded it wouldn't let me move the cursor or even press play on the movie it took me taking the disk out of my Xbox One and putting it back in again for the film to finally freaking play and I still have no clue as to why it wouldn't let me play the film the first time around either.
Now then boys and girls since this is an action film that does mean that we have to talk about the action that's in the film itself. Which I feel is the best part of the whole due to how fun the action gets especially in the third act where anything that could happen action wise does happen and honestly it was during that third act action sequence that I realised how fun this movie could have been if it was anything like the action sequences.
Overall this really isn't a good MCU movie at all and I can see why people don't talk about it that much since it is really forgettable. However as i've mentioned quite a few times there are some good things about the film it's just that you have to look really freaking hard to find them because there;s alot more things about the film that are pretty bad as such this film gets a 6.5 out of 10 from this Marvel Cinematic Universe fan.
All images used in this review were gathered from either the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom wiki page or the Disney fandom wiki page. If you want really high quality images I highly recommend any of these fandom pages and if you don't use them i'll force you to watch this movie dozens of times while listening to Nickleback until you do yes i'm that cruel so you better use either or both of these fandom pages.
