The Dark Knight Review

There have been many Batman films released all throughout the years and i'm sure that there's going to many more made and released heck even as i'm writing this there's another live action Batman film due out next October called The Batman. For some reason tho many people seem to think that the film i'm about to review today is the best Batman film ever made clearly those people haven't seen Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm and so then Batman and film fans alike here is my review of the 2008 film "The Dark Knight" enjoy.

The plot of the movie is after the events of Batman Begins the mob in Gotham no longer has the fear that it once had and so they turn to The Joker who is tasked to try and kill Batman as for Batman he has to try and work out who the Joker is and what it is he wants. In terms what I thought about the story it was honestly really well told and I honestly wouldn't change I thing about the story that's how good the story is in my opinion.

Starring in the film are Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Sir Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth. Joining them are Heath Ledger as The Joker , Gary Oldman as James Gordon , Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two-Face , Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes , Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox , Monique Curnen as Detective Anna Ramirez , Ron Dean as Detective Michael Wuertz , Nestor Carbonell as Mayor Anthony Garcia , Chin Han as Mr. Lau , Eric Roberts as Sal Maroni , William Fichtner as Manager of Gotham National Bank and Cillian Murphy as Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow.

The acting in the film I feel like all of Christopher Nolan's films is in all honesty really freaking good with all of the actors turning in a good performance. I will never ever say that both Christian Bale and the late Heath Ledger are playing my favourite versions of either Batman or Joker but performance wise they do a really good job with the actors having great chemistry together and each getting alot of good lines.

I will always state that the best Batman movie isn't any of the live action ones but rather the 1993 animated film Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm. Which I know is going to shock alot of people but I honestly feel that Mask Of The Phantasm does a better job of representing Batman and the Batman lore then this film does and I don't honestly get why people would prefer this film over Mask of The Phantasm.

I'm not going to lie and say that Mask Of The Phantasm is the better made film because in all honesty it's not in fact i'd that this film is the better made of the two films. However in terms of getting who Batman is as a character and in terms of giving us something new to explore with the character Mask Of The Phantasm is better heck i'd go as far to say that Joker is a better representation of Joker then this film is.

Now believe it or not I do actually like this version of Batman heck i'd go as far to say that this version of the character is the second best live action Batman with first place being Michael Keaton. What I really like about this Batman is that unlike alot of the other live action version of the character this one isn't afraid to make a joke which can go against the character but it also makes the character more likeable in my opinion.

What also helps me like the character is the fact that unlike the other live action versions of the character. This one isn't afraid to get emotional which makes the character seem more human and it works well with the dark and more realistic world that this reboot franchise is set in and unlike the darker version of Superman here having a more darker and human Batman actually works because Batman is a dark character anyway.

Like what I just said with batman while this version of Joker isn't my favourite be it in terms of live action or animation this version of the character is still really good and really interesting to see on screen. In fact this is one of the rare cases where I have nothing bad to say about the character at all it's all down to personal opinion since like alot of the great versions of this character this Joker is an agent of chaos doing things not because of some grand plan that he has but just because he wants to and while his jokes aren't funny you could argue that that's the point his jokes are only funny to him and that makes him seem more scary.

One of my all favourite sequences in the whole film is actually the opening because not only is that opening bank robbery really well shot with director Christopher Nolan making great use of IMAX cameras. It's also a really well paced out scene that shows us how far Joker is willing to go by telling his own team to kill each other after each task is done and it's because of that that some excitement is built up because it's an honestly exciting scene and one that actually has a kind of mystery in it since your wondering who this boss is that they are all talking about.

The only real negative I have about this film is the long running time the film is around two and a half hours long and yeah you really do start to feel it. The oddest thing is there's not one scene i'd cut from this film because all of the scenes are needed in order to tell this story so maybe you could get away with trimming the scenes down instead of outright removing them that's really the only thing that I can think of that would help improve the film in my mind.

Now then film fans since this is an action film that does mean that we have to talk about the action that's in the film itself. Which I honestly loved simply because they used no CGI for alot of the film and so everything you saw was done for real and that in my opinion makes the action more believable , i'm not going to say that the action is exciting because it's not but compared to alot of action movies out there that just used CGI which makes the action look terrible the fact that this film used practical effects makes the action look better in my opinion.

Overall I can see why people like this film since it is really good and it does deserve all of the praise that it gets. I will however not say that this is my favourite Batman film because honestly it's not but I can see why people would say that it's there favourite Batman film since there is alot to like in this film since it honestly is a really great film just not a good Batman film as such the film gets a 9 out of 10 from me.
