Cats 2019 Film Review

Films fans there have been alot of trailers released recently and very few garnered as much hate just from one trailer then the film i'm about to review. To give you guys an idea of how badly the trailer was hated as things stand it has three hundred and twenty seven thousand dislikes on Youtube and it's not hard to see why since the film itself is pretty freaking bad and so here is my review of the 2019 version of Cats.

Now I would very much love to tell you what the story is however the film has decided to do us both a favour and not include one. There is a premise but that's it and even then the premise is weak as hell since it's something that barely plays apart in the film at all the premise is basically a bunch of cats get ready for a ball and that's it yeah i'm not kidding that's all there is whoever thought this story could fit a feature film needs to be fired right now.

Starring in this film is James Corden as Bustopher Jones , Dame Judi Dench as Old Deuteronomy , Jason Derulo as Rum Tum Tugger , Idris Elba as Macavity , Jennifer Hudson as Grizabella , Sir Ian McKellen as Gus the Theatre Cat , Taylor Swift as Bombalurina , Rebel Wilson as Jennyanydots , Francesca Hayward as Victoria , Jaih Betote as Coricopat , Les Twins as Plato and Socrates , Jonadette Carpio as Jemima , Danny Collins as Mungojerrie , Laurie Davidson as Mr. Mistoffelees and Ray Winstone as Captain Growltiger.

Now then like the musical this film's story is mostly told through and that means instead of acting there's alot of singing. So in my opinion the best singer in this film is easily Jennifer Hudson which shouldn't come as a surprise since she's won a ton of awards for her singing however if I was to also judge the acting i'd say the best actor is most likely newcomer Francesca Hayward but given how bad alot of the acting is that's not really a high bar.

Now believe it not despite the huge amount of hate that the effects on this film got it actually had at least really good effects houses working on the film with the full list being Industrial Light & Magic , Mill Film , Moving Picture Company and Rotomation Works Department #4. Believe everything you've heard about the effects in this film because there bad there's nothing more I ca say about them because everything I could say has been said by other people.

To their credit Universal has actually taken steps to improve the effects of this film by telling theatre owners to download a new copy of the film via a satellite I think it was. However the damage has already been done this is something that should have been taken care of months ago and making things worse is they had the time to fix the effects because of all the negative feedback from the trailer which came out five months ago so they could have taken a leaf out of Paramounts play book and pushed the release date back a few months to give the team more time to fix the effects.

Now another reason why this film, is currently struggling to make money besides from it being a bad movie is the fact that it opened the exact same day as Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. That right there is a bad move because of how ingrained Star Wars is into popular culture so it's always going to win by releasing this movie the exact same day as Star Wars Universal have just signed the films death warrant.

From what I can gather this film was being filmed right up until last week that to me is never a good sign because it means that the director hasn't been able to give the film his full attention. Which certainly does show here since like I said there's no plot and because the film was still being filmed there most likely wasn't any test screenings so any issues that could have come up and been fixed now can't because it's release day and the studio now has to release the film.

If you don't like Space Jam for giving new character Lola Bunny b**bs then your not going to like this film because they do the exact same thing to the female cats. I don't know why filmmakers think we want to see b**bs on animals but I really do hope that they stop because it's just weird and is honestly something that isn't needed at all why they thought this was even a passable idea is truly beyond me.

Believe it or not this is also a comedy and that does mean that we have to talk about the actual jokes in the film. Well at least I would if the film bothered to include actual jokes I didn't laugh once during the whole film granted I did smile once or twice during a few early scenes with Rebel Wilson but that's more due to her being funny then the film giving her actual funny lines to say or funny things to do.

Now as you all may know this is a musical and is based of the musical of the same name as well as T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats as such we do need to talk about the songs in the film. Every song you liked from the musical is present in this film heck I think every song is present i'm not sure since I haven't seen the musical and I don't want to after watching this nightmare fuel of a movie and it goes without saying that the best song in the movie is "Memory" and just a word of advice to anyone don't hire Ray Winstone to sing because he can't at all.

Overall go and see The Rise Of Skywalker instead of this trash you'll at least get some sort of enjoyment out of it. Yeah as you can no doubt guess I didn't like this film very much side of the few positive things I had to say about the film that is I honestly can't think of anyone who would like this film from what I could gather even fans of the musical don't like this film very much and just FYI this has an eighteen percent critics score on RT and 59% audience score and now it has a 1 out of 10 from me go and watch your cat cough up a fur ball it'll be more entertaining then this film ever will be.
