Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! Review

Now depending on where your seeing this review guys and girls i'm taking a few days to review all of the solo Jay And Silent Bob films since there's a new one coming out. Well since I reviewed the first solo live action film for the duo yesterday today we're taking a look at the second solo film for the duo which is also the only one to be animated and also based of comic book so technically this is a comic book movie so here it is my review of Jay & Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie! Snoogans.

The plot of the movie is the duo win the lottery and decide to spend it all on becoming superheroes but like every good superhero they have their own enemies to take down. One of the praises I had for the first film is that the story was the right amount of insane and perfect for this duo the story for the film is honestly what you'd expect from a Jay And Silent Bob animated feature because it's just as insane as the Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back and like that film the story does work for this duo due to how insane it is.

Reprising their roles are Jason Mewes as Jay / Chronic , Kevin Smith as Silent Bob / Bluntman and himself and Brian O'Halloran as Dante Hicks. They are joined by Eliza Dushku as Lipstick Lesbian , Tara Strong as C**knocker and Small Fry the Science Guy , Ralph Garman as D**k Head and Doc Brown , Neil Gaiman as Albert the Manservant , Jon Lovitz as The Mad Scientist , Kevin Smiths Wife Jennifer Schwalbach as Blunt-Girl , and freaking Batman himself Kevin Conroy as The Mayor of Red Bank.

Now you'd think that given the names that i've listed that the acting was good and you'd be half right because from some people the acting is indeed good but then there are some where the acting just isn't that good. Jason while he does try his best as Jay he's not that good of a voice actor and the same goes for Kevin they are solid actors just not good voice actors which is a shame because there playing the lead roles. I will say tho that the actors you expect a great performance from do indeed deliver in this movie tho.

Now I had no idea who did the animation for this film and believe me i've tried to find out i've looked everywhere and I cannot find who did it. I can say tho that the budget for this film was really small and that will explain why the animation is as bad as it is even tho you can indeed make decent animation for less money then the big studios it helps if you at least have money to spend on the actual animation I don't think was the case here.

Like I just said the budget for this film was really small it was sixty nine thousand dollars which I don't think is enough to make an animated film. If you want at least decent animation in your film then you need at least one hundred thousand dollars to be your budget just because then you'll have money to actually spend on the animation where as here you don't have that luxury because you have to pay alot of people and so that budget for the animation gets smaller and smaller.

Believe it or not this is technically a comic book movie because this movie is an adaptation of the Bluntman and Chronic comic book that was written by Kevin Smith as a companion piece to Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. So guys you can say to all your friends that Kevin Smith wrote a comic book movie and you'd be one hundred percent right and I honestly want to see him make a big budget comic book movie.

I've not read the comic book so I have no idea if this movie is faithful to the book or not (the comic book was published by Oni Press by the way) and so I can't really say anything about that. However based of what i've read of Wikipedia and see on Google it not only looks like the film is a faithful adaptation but the art style is apparently the same as the comic book but I can't really confirm that since like i've said i've not read the book.

This film is only an hour and three minuets long and that works both for and against the film it works for the film because the story doesn't really need to be any longer then that and so that's really good because they didn't stretch the story. However it works against the film because it means the villains don't really get developed which is a shame because these villains do look like fun characters and the only bit of their backstory we get for any of the villains is only a few minuets long and it then turns into a joke and that's and they don't explain why Lipstick Lesbian hates Jay And Silent Bob it just comes out of nowhere.

Now since this is basically an action film and it does have action and so that means that we have to talk about the action scenes. Which honestly were both bad and good if these scenes were to be in any other movie these action scenes would be terrible but because there in this movie and this movie is kind of lampooning the superhero genre they do kind of work but with that being said I feel that they could have been better.

This is a comedy and so that means there are jokes in the film and i'm going to be honest chances are your going to find this film if you understand alot of the references or if you've seen any film featuring Jay And Silent Bob. I personally found the film to be freaking funny however I could have done with out all of the superhero references which while alot of them are funny they really over do it and they could have tones them down after a while and yes there are alot of adult jokes as well so don't go showing this film to little kids.

Overall this is a very passable film and while it isn't a bad way to pass the time it's also not that that good of a film and not one that I could recommend to that many people. You might like this film if you like the other movies in the View Askewniverse but the film does get a 5 out of 10 from me because it's not that good but it's also not as bad as others would have you believe that it is at least in my opinion and they do make a funny reference to Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back which I liked.
