Jem And The Holograms Film Review

Ladies and gents you've seen me review bad movies before heck you've even see me review movies that have bombed before. Well now you get to see me review a movie that's based of cartoon and is so bad it was pulled two weeks after being released and in some countries was also released as a straight to DVD film and so here it is my review of the film so bad it was pulled from theatres Jem And The Holograms.

The plot of the film is Jerrica Benton and her "sisters" a term i'm using very loosely are offered a record deal and Jerrica finds clues to find something from her dead father. Yes I do know that the characters are related but as a group there not sisters yes both halves are sisters but not to the other if that makes sense as for the actual plot it's so weak that it might as well not even be there and honestly what I wrote for the summery is all I could get out of it.

Starring in this terrible adaptation is Aubrey Peeples as Jerrica "Jem" Benton , Stefanie Scott as Kimber Benton , Hayley Kiyoko as Aja , Aurora Perrineau as Shana , Juliette Lewis as Erica Raymond , Ryan Guzman as Rio Raymond , Molly Ringwald as Aunt Bailey , Nathan Moore as Zipper , Barnaby Carpenter as Emmet Benton , Ryan Hansen as Stephen the Guard , Quddus as VJ , Kesha as Pizzazz , Hana Mae Lee as Roxy , Katie Findlay as Stormer , Eiza González as Jetta , Jimmy Fallon as himself , Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as himself , Alicia Keys as herself and Chris Pratt as himself.

If i'm being honest the acting in the film is one of the actually good things about the film and that's not me being sarcastic either it really is one of the best things about the film. That doesn't mean it's good because it's not since you can clearly tell the actors are just phoning it in but when you compare it to everything else in the film the acting comes of looking OSCAR freaking OSCAR worthy and how they got the freaking rock to cameo in this I have idea since when this film was being made he was a huge star.

Now i'm not going to lie i've not seen a single episode of the original show but even from the first thirty minuets I can straight up tell that they didn't do a good job adapting this show. For starters in the show Jerrica owns Starlight House and Starlight Music which she inherited from her father.and the main villain was called Eric which I guessed they did a gender swap since the main villain here is Erica.

They also got quite alot of things wrong with the main characters as well since in the images of the show that i've seen they all look to be in there late teens / early twenties where as in the movie they are all meant to be around fifteen or sixteen. In the show all four were adopted sisters with only Jerrica and Kimber being related by blood here tho that's the case since while both Jerrica and Kimba are still blood related now Aja and Shana are related by blood but that's nothing compared to what they did with super computer Synergy to put it simply it's now a robot that doesn't talk or create holograms of the girls so the film does away with the holograms aspect of Jem And The Holograms.

None of the characters also don't look like there animated counterparts infact the only time they do look close to their animated counterparts it's done for a joke. Which I personally didn't mind just because i've not seen the show but it's something that i can see die hard fans of the show hating because it spits on the designs they loved from the show the joke they make isn't even that funny it's just done to serve as fan service but even that doesn't work because your using those designs as the setup to a joke.

There's something in the film that even none fans of the show should be angry about and that's the fact that the film makers edit clips sent in by fans to make it appear as if there talking about the movies version of the character. Which isn't true at all what they are infact talking about is the original show and the original character but because the film makers are so obsessed with insulting the fans they had to edit there footage and that to me is so much worse since it would have been one thing if the film was just bad but to also insult the original fans and tell them they actually love the movies version of the character is just wrong especially when you don't give them a reason to care about this take on the character.

Now to the film's credit is well made at least from a technical standpoint but that's really the only good thing I have to say about the film. Since it really is a bad film and it's not hard to see why the film got pulled and actually the fact that this film did get pulled after just two weeks is an incredibly rare thing even bombs like The Last Airbender and the recent Transformers films all stayed in theatres but this one just nope it didn't even make back it's five million dollar budget making just over two million dollars.

This film is listed as a comedy / musical / drama and it fails on all three accounts for starters there's no musical numbers so you can't really call it a musical there,s no funny jokes so it's not a comedy and the drama is weak at best so it barely qualifies as a drama. So it's failed on all of the genre's it was made to be I don't know how that even happens even bad films at least live up to whatever genre it's meant to be but when you fail at even doing that then you know your in trouble.

Now since this is something to do with Jem there are songs in this film two in fact and yes I actually counted the band only sing a few songs. The songs they do sing aren't that bad but the issue is there not that good either there the type of songs that a thirteen year old would like for five minuets and then forget all about it heck I can't even recall any of the songs that's how bad and forgetful they actually are.

Overall not only is this a bad adaptation which would have been one thing but it's also a bad movie that insults fans of the original show. Yes there are some good things to be found in the film but in this guess the good very much outweighs the bad and so it gets a 1 out of 10 from me.
