Once Upon A Time In Hollywood SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review

Regardless of what you think of the man you have to admit that it's always an event whenever Quentin Tarantino releases a movie. Now he has released his ninth feature film and if all goes according to plan his next film will be his last and as we all know the man loves classic cinema and well the film i'm about to review today only hits that point home even further so here is my review of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and yes there might be some spoilers.

The basic plot of the movie is actor Rick Dalton is a struggling actor who is trying to break into feature films with his stuntman and best friend Cliff Booth who has a chance encounter with a certain infamous family. I'm not going to say here which family I mean because i;m going to go into that later on but as a story the film is kind of weak since there basically isn't a plot at all it's just these two guys trying to make it in Hollywood which for Tarantino film isn't good enough.

Starring in the film is Leonardo DiCaprio as Rick Dalton , Brad Pitt as Cliff Booth , Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate , Emile Hirsch as Jay Sebring , Margaret Qualley as Pussycat , Timothy Olyphant as James Stacy , Austin Butler as Charles "Tex" Watson , Dakota Fanning as Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme , Bruce Dern as George Spahn , Al Pacino as Marvin Schwarzs , Kurt Russell as Randy and Mike Moh as Bruce Lee.

Wow this is an impressive cast list not just for a Tarantino film but for any film every actor or actress involved with this film has won several awards for their acting. Which really does show because the acting in the film is one of it's strongest suits which given the actors involved is really freaking understandable every single actor or actress really does kill it in this movie and i'd be shocked if there isn't a few awards given out just for the acting in the film alone.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I deliberately left out the name of the family when talking about the story and even several cast members but I did give out several hints and nudges. This film does indeed feature the infamous Manson Family and the film doesn't really go into the murders of their victims even tho several of them feature quite alot in the film and I don't really get why Quentin chose to shy away from that subject since it could have made for an interesting movie in it's own right.

Now I did some research and I found out that several of the shows that Rick appears on were in fact real shows. That just blows my mind because it's such great attention to detail so you could have very easily have forgiven Quentin for making up shows which to be fair he does make up one show that appears at the start of the film called Bounty Law and he also uses several real life films from around the same time as this film.

There was alot of actors in this film several of which are playing members of the Manson Family and there's a few in there that you wouldn't expect to be in this film. The first being Harley Quinn Smith aka the daughter of Kevin Smith she's playing someone called Froggle but good luck trying to find her and the other person you might not expect to see in this film is horror icon Danielle Harris and if you know what she looks like then chances are your going to spot her pretty easy and I did spot her straight away.

As you'd expect there is alot of blood to be found in the third act of this film but I don't think it'll bother people that much. Mostly because it's shockingly tame when compared to his other films and there isn't that much blood or violence to be found in this film and it's really only seen in one part of the film so if you thought that the ending to The Hateful Eight was far to violent then this is the film for you.

This film is very dialog heavy and when I say very dialog heavy I freaking mean it the same is also true for other Tarantino films but here it's like he wanted to take it to the next level. Unfortunately tho it means that alot of this film is very boring because alot of the time there's nothing happening at all it's just the characters sitting around and talking and that makes the film feel alot longer then two and a half hours.

Since Tarantino films are often dialog heavy I can't really criticise the film that much for it but it does take away from things that could be happening. Like for example if instead of having Rick telling us why he doesn't rate Western films that highly it would have been better if they showed us and it would have been better if they gave Margot Robbie alot more scenes then what she actually has in the final film.

SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Overall this is still a really good film but it's one that has a few faults if your a fan of Quentin Tarantino then go and check this film out but I can't see new fans being made because of this film and so it gets an 8.5 out of 10 from me and this is the first tarantino film to be released by and produced by someone other then The Weinstein Company and a certain producer who shall not be named.
