Descendants 3 Review And There Will Be SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disney fans the Descendants franchise has taken the world by storm with people getting excited on every bit of news regarding the franchise. Well now thanks to some naughty person the whole third and possibly final film in the franchise has leaked online a week before it's broadcast and it goes without saying that there is something that i'm going to have to talk about since there's not getting around it and so here is my review of Descendants 3.
The plot of the movie is Mal and friends have to get what i'm calling the ember of Hades in order to reverse a spell. Oddly enough that's all I can say without giving away any kind of spoilers so your just going to have to go with my pretty bad summery of the films story. In terms of what I thought of the story tho it's pretty standerd Disney affair it's a harmless story and it is one that's fairly well told but it doesn't feel like it's the final chapter tho and that's a big issue for me since this is meant to be the last one.
Starring in the film is Dove Cameron as Mal , the late Cameron Boyce as Carlos , Sofia Carson as Evie , Booboo Stewart as Jay , Mitchell Hope as Ben , China Anne McClain as Uma , Brenna D'Amico as Jane , Melanie Paxson as the Fairy Godmother , Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad Charming , Zachary Gibson as Doug , Sarah Jeffery as Princess Audrey , Thomas Doherty as Harry Hook , Dylan Playfair as Gil , Anna Cathcart as Dizzy Tremaine , Jadah Marie as Celia , Christian Convrey as Squeaky , Luke Roessler as Squirmy and Cheyenne Jackson as Hades.
We all know that there's something that i'm going to have to talk about in this review and trust me i'm getting to it' I want to talk about the acting first because after this it's going to get slightly depressing and so my thoughts on the acting where that it was a damn sight better then the acting that was in the second movie but it's still the bog standerd Disney Channel affair but to be fair the actors are actually putting in effort.
As we all knew earlier in the summer we lost actor Cameron Boyce at the very young age of just twenty years old i'm not going to go into the details of how he died since you can very easily search for that yourselves, I will say tho that no actor or actress never truly dies since they live on in there films or TV shows and so in this regard Cameron has become truly immortal because there will be new people everyday discovering his work and becoming fans and I wouldn't blame anyway if they got a little misty eyed during his first and final scenes knowing what we now know.
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We find out who Mal's dad is in this film and it honestly shocked me that it turned out to be Hades just because it was someone that I never thought of. They don't even do it as a one time thing it comes back at the end of the movie which I thought was a great idea since the character is one of the best Disney villains and so to have him in the film quite a bit in quite a big role was a very smart move.
Speaking of classic villains we see Lady Tremaine in this film but don't get to excited she's not in this film that much. In fact if i'm right she's only in two scenes and only has a few lines of dialog but still tho it's great to see her in this movie even tho she looks nothing and I mean nothing like her animated counterpart I even think they got her race wrong since she looked Asian to me and that's not me being racist she really did look Asian.
I loved what they did with Hades in this film they made him kind of like an ageing rock star and it really did suit him perfectly. I don't really like that he's the father of Mal just because he's a god and Maleficent so it makes you wonder how or even when they met and well you know. There's also the issue that in the previous two films Mal's father was never even brought up so it just comes out of nowhere.
Speaking of things that comes out of nowhere Audrey is the main villain in this film and it really does come out nowhere and it seems out of character. In the first film yes she was mean but it was more in a Mean Girls kind of way not a "i'm going to kill you if I don't get what I want kind of way" so it really does seem out of character when she has her big i'm turning evil now song it would have worked if she was in the second film and they hinted at her possibly becoming evil but she wasn't in that movie and so it's something that's out of character.
Now there is one thing in the whole film that makes it feel like a true finale and that's the fact that they open up the barrier for good. Even tho that is a solid way to close out the series since it was a big part of the franchise just having that one thing isn't enough to make it feel like this is really the end the story needs to move the characters to their natural ending and while that does happen for Mal and Ben it doesn't happen with any of the other characters.
As you'd expect this is a musical and while I don't know the names of all the songs who even wrote them I can tell you that my favourite song in the film is easily "Do What You Gotta Do". Just because it's a Hades and Mal rock duet and if there's any kind of music that would suit Hades perfectly it's rock music all you have to do is just look at the guy in this film to see that and it's honestly a really good catchy little song.
Now for some reason instead of going with an already established and returning character they choose to set someone else up as the main villain. The second film ended with Uma vowing to come back so how cool would it have been if she was the villain who's out looking for revenge instead tho they choose to make her into somewhat of anti-hero for no reason what so ever and it just feels like a waste of the character.
SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall outside of two things there's nothing at all to say that this is the final one if anything it makes me think that there'll be another one in two years but with that being said the film is pretty fun and so it gets a 6 out of 10 from me.
