Aladdin 2019 Review Might Contain Spoilers

Well the house of mouse is at it again this time there remaking a film for the renaissance era and it's a film that's not even that old it's only twenty seven years old. That's freaking nothing dude if anything they should be remaking some of there earlier films since not alot of people would have seen those movies of course tho they would have seen the classics but that's not the point and so here is my review of Aladdin 2019 and yes there might be some spoilers all throughout the review so you have been warned.

This is what I mean by spoilers because the plot of the movie is the exact same plot of the original like note for note the exact same. If your going to remake something at least give us something new to the story they do kind of give us some new things but they don't play any part in the overall story and that's such a shame because they could have been really interesting add on's but the film does nothing with them.

Starring in this movie is Mena Massoud as Aladdin , The remake Pink Power Ranger as Princess Jasmine , The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as Genie , Marwan Kenzari as Jafar , Navid Negahban as The Sultan , Nasim Pedrad as new character Dalia , Numan Acar as Hakim , Robby Haynes as Razoul , returning in all three of his roles from the original is voice acting legend Frank Welker as Abu / Rajah and The Cave of Wonders and sadly they didn't bring back Gilbert Gottfried but instead we have Alan Tudyk as Iago.

Alan Tudyk is a great voice actor and he's been great in other things both Disney and none Disney related but he's not the right choice to play this character and to make matters worse they give him a really annoying voice but I will admit Alan is solid in the film but he's not in it that long. One of the things that this film got praise for was the main performance of it's leads and I have to say all three of them are honestly so freaking good and i'll admit that I expected the performances to be pretty bad because that's what the trailers led me to believe.

The CGI for the film was done by ILM and while the very early CGI in the film wasn't that good it was still better then some of the effects in this film. I'm not going to lie tho when I say that The Genie actually looks good but I don't really think they needed to add Will Smiths face people would know it's Will Smith just from the voice so there's no need to add his face on there and I know that's a weird thing to bring up but it is kind of distracting.

One of the things that I thought the film would do is add The Peddler and sadly tho he's no where to be seen. Instead tho we get the story being told by this man on a boat and while it does it's job of making this film standout from the original it still would have been cool to see Will Smith in make up and have him be The Peddler but instead we get him as this other character so there's no surprise when it comes up later in the film because we know it's The Genie.

One of the things that the film does add is the fact it gives The Genie a love interest and while I did enjoy that new aspect at the end of the day it adds nothing to the film. I will say this tho I did like new character Dalia who's Jasmine's handmaiden and confidante altho I do think they could have spent a bit more time setting up her character instead of just having her in a few scenes and she's honestly better looking then Jasmine in my opinion.

One of the things that really does suck is that the original writers behind the original film aren't getting a single penny or any kind of compensation for this film. It's because animation writers don't have there own union and they aren't treated the same way as live action writers and that really does suck because writers are writers they should all be treated the same and that means getting the same compensation when it comes to remakes and adaptations and this is also going to be a thing when it comes to the remake of The Lion King.

For some reason they keep the Genie in his human form which doesn't really sit right with me since it didn't really happen in the original film and you know it was only done because they had Will Smith in the film and they wanted to put him to good use. The issue is tho it kind of takes away from the impact when Aladdin does free him it works in the original because all throughout the movie we never see the Genie in his human form and so when he's freed and knowing that he eventually becomes The Peddler it has a little more weight.

Jafar in this movie isn't as scary as he was in the original and considering he's the villain of the film that's a really big issue. In the original he was scary because you never knew what he was going to do next and he had plans on top of plans here tho everything just goes according to his plan and that doesn't make him scary if they wanted him to be scary then they should have went with the original films script because that worked for that character and unlike in the original film Jafar in this film doesn't have a clear motive.

Now i'll admit that when the full trailer for this film dropped I thought that the film looked like a cheap Disney Channel Original Movie and i;m glad to say that after seeing the movie it visually looks a lot better then I thought it would.  Don't get me wrong there are times where the movie looks bad but nine times out of ten it actually looks impressive and there was a lot of times where I found myself saying "that shot looked really good" and that's not something I get to say all the time.

My god there is a lot of slo-mo in this film and it comes out of know where and there really freaking pointless. I don't know why but director Guy Ritchie seems to really like using slow motion in his films since it's in all of his movies and it just doesn't work here and in my opinion is laughable. The third act in the film to me kind of felt rushed but that's just what I thought and I would have liked it if Jafar's motive was a bit more clear.

One if the things that I really wasn't expecting from this film was for it to have an action sequence and it's something that comes out of know where and it adds nothing to the actual story. I will say tho that the action sequence was exciting so in that regard it did it's job but at the same time it was also a pointless sequence since the original movies didn't have an action sequence in it's third act and it worked well in that movie.

Doing the music for the film is Alan Menken who along with Pasek & Paul actually wrote a new song for the film. the score I thought was pretty good but it's not going to top the songs which in my opinion just steel the show and unlike the Beauty And The Beast remake they actually got people who could sing to star in this film and to me shock my favourite song in the whole film is the new song "Speechless" which is just simply incredible.

Overall out of all the remakes that have been released this is by far the best one since it does try and capture the spirit of the original and try to be it's own thing that said tho there are plenty of flaws and so it gets a 6 out of 10 from me.
