The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part POSSIBLE SPOILERS Review

Animation fans the movie that most of us have been waiting for is finally here and I can very easily see why this movie isn't making as much money as the first one. This is a movie that alot of people myself included have been waiting to see especially after the dreadful Ninjago Movie from a few years ago so will this movie save the lego movie franchise or will the franchise continue in a downward spiral while I can't answer those questions I can tell you what I thought of The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.

The plot of the movie is Lucy , Batman , Benny , Unikitty and others have been legonapped and taken to the planet Systar and it's up to Emmet to save them and present Our-Mom-Ageddon. I have to admit I really enjoyed the plot of this movie granted it's not as good as the story for the first one but for a lego sequel it's just as insane as you'd not only want it to be but also think that it would be and that's something I have to give the film credit for.

Returning for this movie is Chris Pratt as Emmet Brickowski and the awesomely named Rex Dangervest , Elizabeth Banks as Lucy , Will Arnett as Bruce Wayne / Batman , Charlie Day as Benny , Alison Brie as Princess Unikitty , Nick Offerman as MetalBeard and Jadon Sand as Finn among many , many , many others. I'm not even kidding there's so many returning actors in this film it's freaking insane but out of the actors that i've listed easily the best performer is Will Arnett can we please get him to play Batman in every single media.

In terms of new actors we have Tiffany Haddish as Queen Watevra Wa-Nabi , Stephanie Beatriz as General Sweet Mayhem , Maya Rudolph as Mom , Richard Ayoade as Ice Cream Cone , Jason Momoa as Aquaman , Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn , Ike Barinholtz as Lex Luthor and Spoiler as themself. There's a really funny cameo in here which i've left out because I don't want to spoil it just due to how weird and out of place it is. That said tho the acting from the new cast is honestly really good with alot of them turning in really funny performances.

Now I can't find who did the animation for this film but if you've seen all of the other lego movies then you know what kind of animation to expect in this film. Due to the fact that it's the exact same animation style I can't really fault the animation because it's still as charming as it was when The Lego Movie came out and that's also the problem because even in the Toy Story you saw a visual upgrade in each film and you don't see that here it looks the exact same as the previous films.

Now this is something that I thought i'd never say about a sequel to The Lego Movie but this film actually didn't make that much money this past weekend. In my opinion that's due to the fact that the film opened the exact same day as Alita: Battle Angel now I know what your thinking anime adaptations don't usually make that much money and you'd be right but the difference is not only is this one actually good but it's also got alot of star power behind the camera and in front of it and that's something that this film doesn't have.

Also working against this film is the fact that alot of people were talking about Alita granted they weren't always saying positive things about the film but they were talking about it none the less and that made them want to go and see it. As much as it kills me to say this no one was talking about this movie and if no one is talking about your movie no matter how good the film is it's always going to fail.

During the opening I was getting alot of Mad Max Fury Road vibes from this movie and given that I freaking love that film that was honestly welcome but I think it would have been really freaking funny if they got Charlize Theron back as Furiosa. One thing which did kind of shock me is the fact that they didn't use any of the characters from the Unikitty TV show just because I thought that it would have been a really cool way to tie those two things together heck they don't even make a joke out of it.

From this point onwards there's going to be a very high chance of spoilers so you have been warned but if you don't want to see any of the spoilers then just skip right to the end of the review to find out my final thoughts on the movie. What I thought was really weird and an odd thing to do is the fact that they recast the role of Velma instead of having Kate Micucci reprise the role they recast her with Trisha Gum which to me is a weird choice since alot of people will be used to Kate playing the part.

Well since we are now in full on spoiler territory we can now talk about the cameo that is so freaking weird and out of place that you have to love it and that is Bruce Willis as himself. Whoever came up with that idea deserves a raise because it's such a strange cameo none of the little kids are going to know who he is or why there making a joke about Die Hard and the adults watching mostly aren't even paying attention to what's happening on screen anyways so why have him cameo that said it is a really funny cameo.

One of the issues that alot of people have had with the film is the fact that alot of the jokes don't feel as fresh as they did in the first one. In some ways I do see where they are coming from since the first movie was so funny and so good but here's the thing no matter how good or funny this film was it was always going to fail in comparison to the first one because that's just the nature of sequels when the first film is so good the second one is always going to fail because of that fact.

That said tho there are some unfunny jokes in this film which is something that I don't want to be saying because this film was written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and they are really funny guys. An example of a bad joke is very early on in the movie our heroes are under attack from the new characters and they throw stars at our heroes one of which happens to get wedged between a door and for some reason the camera holds on the star like there's meant to be a joke there but it just isn't funny. There are tho alot more jokes which are funny and that I can very easily see alot of people laughing at.

For some strange reason they chose to make this film a musical which I found to be a really weird and out of know where thing to do. I wouldn't mind it so much if the first film had a few songs present but outside of "Everything Is Awesome" there isn't any songs in the first film. I can't actually find out who wrote all of the songs for this film out side of the writer for the new song "Catchy Song" which is Jon Lajoie and while that is indeed a fairly solid song my personal favourite is "Gotham City Guys" just because it plays up the fact that Batman hates Superman which is always comedy gold.

Overall this film isn't as awesome as the first film but it's a damn sight better then The Lego Ninjago Movie was. This film does have a lot of flaws and I hope that i've mentioned all of them I know i've mentioned all the ones that I found with the film but tho it is still a very enjoyable film and with that in mind it scores a 7.5 out of 10 from me.
