Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic Review

Well then anime fans here we are with another anime movie this time based of the hit franchise Black Butler and as i understand it this is the first feature film for this franchise so here is my review of Black Butler: Book Of Atlantis.

Now before i get into what i8 thought of the films story i have to say i havn't seen the anime series or read the manga so here we go. The plot of the movie is a young lord and his demon butler board a luxury cruise ship to investigate claims of the dead being returned to life and are faced with various complications. I had to get the plot for this movie of IMDB because the films story is so freaking hard to find within the film it self and it quickly became clear to me that this is a film for the fans and the film does have pretty bad pacing.

All of the cast return for the movie and since i'm feeling lazy i won't name them all but we have Daisuke Ono and Maaya Sakamoto returning to play the leads and playing our main villains we have Kaito Ishikawa and Junichi Suwabe. Honestly i can't fault a single cast member they've been playing these characters for years now so they know them inside and out so i feel that in this film all of them did a great job.

Now i know not many horror fans will class this is as a horror film but for me it is since it includes Zombies even tho there not called Zombies in the movie all you have to do is take one look at them and you know what they are and for some unknown reason this film references Titanic alot so it makes me wonder if the director of this movie was a fan of Titanic.

The film like the TV series was animated by A-1 Pictures and instead if using just 2D animation they mix it with CGI all of the 2D stuff looked great there was a lot of great movements from the characters especially when it came to the action scenes. The CGI however for me was a mixed bag just because when it was a fully CGI scene like the opening of the movie it was pretty nice to see but then you get scenes that try to blend the two together and the CGI just sticks out like a sore thumb so i just wish they had bothered to put in the extra effort to make the CGI in those scenes look really good.

Now as i mentioned i classify this as a horror movie because of the fact it has Zombies in it well i would also like to add that it has a tone of gore people start gushing tons of blood over anything in this movie and i have to say it's freaking awesome to see since i'm a huge fan of Hellsing Ultimate so i love seeing this amount of gore in my anime.

I have to say that in this movie for me the best character is either Lizzy or Grell Sutcliff Grell is badass in the more obvious way i mean for Pete's sake he has a chainsaw sword just that alone makes him badass but Lizzy is badass in the less obvious way she is so determined to keep Cial happy that she is willing to change herself for him and then when it matters the most in the movie she does something that makes her even more badass.

As with anything that A-1 does the best thing is the action scenes they were pretty good in this movie as i said before they were well animated and due to the fact that most of the people were supernatural there was a lot of creativity to them which is something that i liked alot.

Now something which i didn't like at all was the pointless flashbacks the film features two flashback scenes and in terms of the plot they seem pointless and they feel like they were there just to stretch the run time of the movie i wouldn't mind them so much if the second one didn't take place during the final fight when the viewer is meant to be the most excited the film decides to give us a rather long and boring flashback.

Overall if your a fan of the franchise your going to like this movie alot but if your not a fan then i'd say don't watch this movie it wasn't made for you and while this is indeed a good movie but it doesn't deserve the IMDB rating of an 8.1 for me the movie is a 7 out of 10.
