Death Note 2017 Review

Here we are again anime fans another anime property has been turned into a live action movie and this time it was released through Netflix and the property in question is Death Note.

The story of the film is a young man comes to possess a supernatural notebook the Death Note that grants him the power to kill any person simply by writing down their name on the pages. He then decides to use the notebook to kill criminals and change the world with the help of his classmate who shares his ideals but an enigmatic detective attempts to track him down and end his reign of terror. The story for the film makes the film sound more interesting then it is because truth be told not alot actually happens and yes this film does make changes to the anime and the manga.

The film stars Nat Wolff , Margaret Qualley and Keith Stanfield as Light , Mia and L respectfully and i have to say that the characters were perfectly cast and i know that will make a lot of anime fans angry but it's true i thought Keith did a great job with L even tho he's not who i would have gone with i thought Nat did an OK job as Light and the same goes for Margaret even tho there both playing two dimensional characters they did a great job with them.

One of the other things i liked about this movie is the fact that it's beautiful to look at one of the things that director  Adam Wingard  is good at is making a film look stunning the locations used in this film do look truly beautiful and there's alot of crazy cool camera angle's thrown in there as well so from a technical stand point the film's a masterpiece.

The one actor who i thought was truly creepy was Willem Dafoe as Ryuk every second he was on screen you could tell he was just having pure fun playing that character and his voice matches the character perfectly in my opinion and honestly his voice is the only scary thing in this movie because there's no real scares at all all there is is just jump scares and that's it.

Now i hate a few major things in this movie and they are the fact that this story is better served as a 13 episode series i think it would have made more sense if Netflix instead made 13 hour long episodes and instead of just one hour and forty minuet movie and the other thing i hated was the fact that for large portion of the movie Light is portrayed as the hero when really at that point he should have been portrayed as the villain and L should have been portrayed as the hero.

The music for the movie was done by the talented Atticus Ross and his brother Leopold Ross and i have to say that the music for the film is incredible i think talent just runs in there family all of the music in the film is a treat to listen to infact it's almost worth watching just for the music alone.

Overall i think that if you can ignore all the changes to the story and the fact that this is set in America and a few other things then maybe just maybe you'll like this movie for me this movie is a 5.5 out of 10.
