The Muppets 2011 Film Review
It's really safe to say that back in 2011 The Muppets really weren't as big as they once were and as such it really was shocking when they announced that the characters would be making there way back to the big screen. While the movie really was indeed a hit film Disney sadly really haven't done anything meaningful with the characters since then as while the characters did star in a few Disney+ shows and a Disney+ special that's really it and so then join me as I review the film that that saw the worlds most famous puppets attempt a comeback with the film in question being called simply just "The Muppets" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when Muppets superfan Walter finds out that an evil Oil Barron is about to buy the old Muppet Studio Walter , his brother Gary and his fiancee Mary set about getting The Muppets back together again so that they can put on one more show together and try to save The Muppet Studio once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual lot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being up there with some of the best plots that The Muppets have done as it's a plot that feels like that it's in the spirit of not only the original The Muppet Show but also alot of the best Muppet movies as well as it's a plot that alot of people regardless of if there young or old can really get behind and while yes some aspects of the plot do feel really predicable like the subplot with Gary and Mary that could also be the point as the whole film is told in a way that really feels like that it's making fun of those kind of romantic plots which in this case just so happens to wrapped around the craziness that The Muppets typically really bring with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Steve Whitmire as Kermit The Frog , Beaker , Statler, Rizzo The Rat , Link Hogthrob , Lips and The Newsman and Eric Jacobson as Miss Piggy , Fozzie Bear , Animal , Sam Eagle and Marvin Suggs. Also starring in this film is Dave Goelz as Gonzo , Dr. Bunsen Honeydew , Zoot , Beauregard , Waldorf and Kermit Moopet , Bill Barretta as Swedish Chef , Rowlf The Dog, Dr. Teeth , Pepe The Prawn , Bobo The Bear , Big Mean Carl , Mahna Mahna , Behemoth , Beautiful Day Monster , Gary Muppet and Hobo , David Rudman as Scooter , Janice , Miss Poogy , Wayne and Bobby Benson , Matt Vogel as Sgt. Floyd Pepper , Camilla The Chicken , Sweetums , '80s Robot , Lew Zealand , Uncle Deadly , Rowlf Moopet , Crazy Harry , Janice Moopet and Dr. Julius Strangepork , Peter Linz as Walter , this films co-writer and producer Jason Segel as Gary , Amy Adams as Mary , Chris Cooper as Tex Richman , Rashida Jones as Veronica , Jack Black as Himself and Zach Galifianakis as Hobo Joe.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in ll honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of the The Muppet actors turning in some really good performances in this film which is something that really does make alot of sense as alot of them have bee playing there respective characters for decades at this point and even newcomer Peter Linz does do a really solid job of new Muppet character Walter with the same thing also being true for this films human actors as while it would have been really super easy for them to ham it up as there acting against puppets it really does come across as all of them are treating it like they would any other role which is something that really does work considering just how emotionally charged this film is and even when The Muppets themselves get emotional there actors still somehow manage to make it feel like it's the right thing for there characters to be doing at that point in time with the acting that's in this film also being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
This film does alot of things really well with one of them being the fact that it gets it'd more emotional moments really spot on. As the film know when to get you emotionally be it Kermit singing about missing his fiends or even if it's something just as simple as showing a run down version of The Electric Mayhem's bus this film knows just what it is that will get it's audience emotionally and it's skill like that that really does make this movie work on two levels as while the more younger audience will find this films more sentimental moments to be rather charming and work for the film the films more adult audience members will be crying at those moments not only because of the fact that the fact that are some really good moments in the film but also because pf the fact that it reminds them of watching The Muppet Show or one of the various Muppet movies when they were young and it's something like that that really does make this movie work on both levels and will be able to be enjoyed by not just either kids or adults but the family as a whole and that's something that is true to what Jim Henson himself would have wanted as he created things to be enjoyed not just by kids or just by adults but for the whole family and in that way that makes this film one or the more truer forms of what The Muppets could be when there done at there absolutely best and that's something that alot of Muppet media has forgotten but when it's done then that piece of media like not only this film but The Muppets Mayhem turn out to be some really good pieces of Muppet media.
In what was a great move we get to see what alot of the characters lives were like after The Muppets were disbanded. With some of the characters having predictable jobs like Miss Piggy being fashion editor which whilst that is a fun idea is one that's also really predictable given her character but at the same time we also characters that had some really unpredictable outcomes like Gonzo becoming an owner of a very successful plumbing busisness or even Sweetums going back to selling cars or for that mater Rowlf just going to sleep all of which were really funny ideas as they matched up perfectly with there respective characters and it's something that really does go to show that the makers of this film really were fans of The Muppets as they managed to create lives for these characters that felt true not only to who they are as characters but also something that works for the story that this film is trying to tell and heck even the fact that Kermit ended up as being recluse it is something that does work for his character as Kermit is someone who does deeply love his friends and treats them like there his family and so to have them suddenly not there anymore would break him and would turn him into this reclusive character but at the same time tho it would have been nice to see Kermit learn to become his old self again instead of having it happen for no reason as that the makes the idea of him being this shut off person feel like a waste of a perfectly good idea.
These films have never really had any good villains in them with the same thing also being for this villain. As while Chris Cooper plays him with such over the top glee that it's hard not to buy into his character Tex Richman just isn't that interesting of a character with him coming across as being a stereotypical villain as we don't know why he's evil and his reason for wanting to destroy The Muppet Studio doesn't really help things as he only wants to destroy it so that he can get more money and that's really it where as having him be someone who just never like The Muppets growing up would help things quite alot as it would give him a personal reason to want to keep on going after these characters and it would make us the audience want to to seem defeated as well and that is something that they kind of already did in The Muppet Movie with Doc Hopper and because of that that films villain did come across as being more menacing as he had a more personal reason for chasing after Kermit where in this film there's none of that ad it doesn't even make sense why he would draw up a contract that would also give him the rights to The Muppets name as he'd gain literally nothing from that and heck it could even be argued that he'd gain more from not having the The Muppets name but still keeping the studio as then The Muppets would have to give him money to keep on using it instead of having be demolished which granted does make sense for his character but at the same time tho is a muppets movie so you can go a bit more wild and out there with the villains plots and not just play things safe which is something that The Muppets never ever did.
With this being a Muppet movie that does mean that there are songs to be found in this movie with this films songs being written by Bret McKenzie. To be honest alot of this films songs are really good but at the same time this film does also have a really weak song as well as this films villain song "Let's Talk About Me" isn't that good of a song it's not a bad song by any means but when you compare to quite literally any of the films other songs then it does come across as being the weaker of the two with it not really being helped by the fact that it doesn't really develop the character of Tex Richman either and is there just so it can be on the films soundtrack where as songs like "Man Or Muppet" , "Life's A Happy Song and even "Rainbow Connection" add something to the plot of the film as they either advance a certain aspect of the films plot or there used to advance to show us just how these characters are at the start of the film where as "Let's Talk About Me" is just there and is a song that really would have been better left out of the film as it does nothing for the character of Tex Richman with the best song in the whole entire film being either "Pictures in My Head" or "Rainbow Connection" which might be cheating it as rainbow connection was technically written for The Muppet Movie and not for this movie but this films version of the song is just so good and is the perfect to cap off Kermit's character arc in the film as when all of The Muppets go out there to sing the song with him there doing it knowing that it might be the last time that they ever sing or perform together ever again and that arc was one that was started in the equally "Pictures in My Head" with both of these songs being really well written and really well sung songs as well.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and forty two minuets and forty four seconds. Which is a really solid running time for this film to have as this film really does have the amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time but at the same time tho it would have been nice if this film was just a few minuets longer just so we could then see alot more of what the other Muppets have been up to since The Muppets disbanded and it would also allow for characters like Tex Richman , Gary , Walter and Mary to be more fully developed since as things stand they all just come across as being very one dimensional characters which is something that does make sense for this films human characters as there not the characters that your coming to this film to see but at the same time it's something that doesn't really work for Walter as he's a new Muppet character that gets added to the group and yet he doesn't get that fully developed as a character with him helping the Muppets more because of the fact that the plot demands rather then it being in his character and with the films added running time all four of those characters could be fleshed out a little more thus making them not only more memorable characters but also characters that we can form a connection with as well which is something that we can't really do in this film as the film really has to rush along to the next plot point but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having alot of painfully moments in it al of which feel very true not only to The Muppets as characters but also as a brand name as well with all of the characters either saying or doing things that feel true to who they are as characters which is something that does make the comedy in this film feel alot more character driven as while yes this films jokes aren't the kind of jokes the old school Muppets would make they are the kinds of jokes that The Muppets under Disney would make with the best joke in this film also being one of it's more stupidest jokes as well as it's when Rowlf is explaining what he has been up to and asking why he wasn't featured in the montage and yet all it was was just lieing in a Hammock while Kermit just asks him if he wants to get The Muppets back together again and to which Rowlf agrees and that's and while it is a stupid joke it's also one that not only catches you off guard but also gets you laughing due to how funny that joke really is and it's the same thing with alot of the jokes that are in this very film bu at the same time tho this film does rely a bit to much on fourth wall jokes which are fine if there done well and used sparingly bu here there done alot of the time and range from OK at best to just down right bad in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall it's quite obvious that out of the two recent Muppet movies that this one is easily better then Muppets Most Wanted as this one at least tried to hit those emotional beats where as Muppets Most Wanted was just doing it's own ting and doubling down on things that didn't work in this film and it is easy to see why alot of people really loved this film when it first came out all the way back in 2011 as it does remind you of when you were kid with it also having alot of really good jokes , performances and songs thrown in there as well to make this film just a really good film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for were I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official The Muppets fandom wiki page and the official Disney fandom wiki page. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official The Muppets fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official The Muppets fandom wiki page are all really high quality really with all of the images that really are all and of course really currently up and on the really great and the really solid the official The Muppets fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
