Joker Film Review

Comic book movies are ones that when there done right and have the right creative team behind them can be great however at the same time tho they can risk of really being very stale very quickly as well. As such it is often refreshing when a comic book movie comes along and dares to do something that's different and that's exactly what we got with the film that i'm about to review for you all today and with it's sequel due out in just a few short days time it only made sense that this film be the one that gets to the tie in review treatment and so then join me as I review the film that actually makes you care for it's Batman's biggest villain with the film in question being called simply just "Joker" enjoy.

The plot of this film is down on his luck clown Arthur Fleck struggles to be accepted in a world that doesn't want him in it and so goes to extremes to make sure the world will remember his name. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty i in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of this film being so radically different and refreshing from the types of comic book films that were getting at the time as alot of those rather rightfully so don't make you care for the villain and don't have daring and though provoking plot lines where as it's the opposite that's true for this film as this films plot line is really very thought provoking as it's a plot that does deal with mental illness and how that can effect people in different and it's a plot line that isn't very safe and very easy to market either due to it's extreme nature and more importantly then all of that is the fact that it's a plot that could only work with a character like The Joker who is a very dark character and would there for need a very dark and disturbing plot in order to tell a story with him as the main character in order to do his character any kind of justice whatsoever with the plot of this film also really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck / Joker , Robert De Niro as Murray Franklin and Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond. Also starring in this film is Frances Conroy as Penny Fleck , Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne , Marc Maron as Gene Ufland , Glenn Fleshler as Randall , Leigh Gill as Gary , Bill Camp as a Detective Garrity , Shea Whigham as a Detective Burke , Josh Pais as Hoyt Vaughn , Dante Pereira-Olson as Bruce Wayne , Douglas Hodge as Alfred Pennyworth , Carrie Louise-Putrello as Martha Wayne and Brian Tyree Henry as Carl.

Now then interms of what I personally thought /felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning some really good performances so much so that it really is hard to picture anyone else playing these respective versions of these truly iconic characters and while yes some performances are better then others with Joaquin Phoenix turning in such a good performance that after a while you stop seeing the actor and start to see only the characters there are some performances that aren't as good as others like for example Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne who is good in this film but when you compare him to all of the other performances in this film like for example Zazie Beetz ans an example who is also really good in this film or even Joaquin Phoenix for example as well his does come off as being one of the weaker performances that are to be found in this film with the acting that's in this film really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so good that all this films actors really have to do is jut say the lines as they are written and a good performance really will come out of them alot more naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Scanline VFX , Shade VFX and Phantom-FX. Now the interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good as it's the best kind of CGI that's used in this film as it's CGI that you don't notice is there in the first place due to the fact that the CGI that's in this very film is used mainly to enhance what was there on the set the day of filming and that's really it with there maybe being some crowd scenes that use CGI in them as well and that is the best kind of CGI as you don't notice that it's there in the first place and while yes there might be some obvious effects used later on in the film mostly due to the fact that your obviously not going to have your main actor surrounded by real fire but even then that's a good reason to use CGI as you have to use computers at that point in time with this film mainly using practical effects and while yes there might some CGI blood which will always look bad in this film they at least have the excuse of the fact that the film didn't have that big of budget in the first place and so then of course the effects budget isn't going to be that big either but even so this films CGI does look really good and holds up really well.

What this film does brilliantly is make you question what is and what isn't real and it does it so subtly that you don't even know that it's happening. This is such a col idea as it means that us the audience now have more of a reason to keep on rewatching the film even if it's just to spot all of the little clues that let you know that this is happening in Arthurs mind and the other scenes aren't and this is something that does work as it puts us in the mind of Arthur as we're seeing what he's seeing and we're thinking what he's thinking  and so when we see him and Sophie on their date together we believe that it's real and that they do have feelings for each other and so when it's revealed later on in the film that those feeling were all inside Arthurs head and that he and Sophie haven't really interacted since there first scene in the elevator it comes as a surprise to not only Arthur but us the audience as well and it's something that works really well as when we do see there relationship play out the film goes the extra mile and makes there relationship feel real which only makes us want to see them together and as a result of that is the fact that it does come all the more crushing and heartbreaking when it turns out that they never did have a date with each other and while that is some great storytelling it does make you wonder why all this time was dedicated to a relationship that was never going to be real in the first place.

One of the very few things that this film does get wrong is the fact that it doesn't really develop not only the Sophie character but also the Murray character as well. With both of them not really getting alot of time to really shine and really show us what kind of person they are and while yes Sophie does get a bit more screen time she just straight up disappears from the film when it would have worked just as well if we got to see what ever it is that Arthur does to her instead of leaving it open ended and it would have helped if we got more of a clue as to what her personality is as well but she gets the golden when compared to the Murray character who due to the nature of his character and how we see his character he doesn't really get much in the way of a personality which does make sense as we only see him briefly of TV screens for alot of the film with him only really taking centre stage during the films truly shocking third act by which point it's to little to late but at the same time tho given how we do get to see his character it does make sense as he's meant to be a seventies era TV show chat show host only alot less cheesy and that's really it but at the same time it would have been nice if during the brief time that we do get to see him he then got across what his personality is as that would make his character seem alot more likable and yet because of the fact that he doesn't do that while his death is indeed still shocking as a character he doesn't across as being very likable which might be the point as we're always seeing him from Arthurs point of view for the vast majority of the films running time but even during the films third act he still doesn't give us a hint of what his personality even is.

In what a really shocking move this film actually makes you care for someone who is basically the films main villain. With it doing this by having alot of people who we typically see as being the good guys like Thomas Wayne for example act the bad guy towards Arthur and by having the alot of people just treat Arthur horribly something that oi even true for his own mother and it's those things plus the fact that we see Arthur get beat up not once and twice and both times not only does no one come to help him out but when he explains his actions to those people who should believe him they don't believe him and it's actions like that that do very slowly but very surely drive him even more insane then what he actually is and that is something that makes this film even more tragic then what it already is as alot of this film could have been avoided if someone just defended him  and believed him and yet they don't do any of that and it's those actions that force him to question those around him and question weather he's doing the right the thing something which is also highlighted in the laughs that he has which is such a subtle thing but if you listen very carefully Arthur has quite a few different laughs from when he's nervous , in pain , anxious or just straight up happy and it's those things that due to his condition that alot of the public don't understand that make him a more sympathetic character and because of that us the audience do care for him as a character.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours one minuet and forty eight seconds. Which is the absolutely perfect running time for this film to have as the film does have just the right amount of plot to really cover that large amount of running time and to the films credit it does take as full advantage of that running time as it really could have done and while yes the film would have been better if to devote some time to develop some of it's side characters which would also serve to make us the audience care for them as well and if done right it could also feed into the fact that we the audience never really know what's real in the film and what isn't as well but at the same time tho since alot of those scenes really wouldn't be needed to advance the actual plot of the film they could also be seen as filler and given that Arthur is meant to be the main focus of the film by taking the focus away from him would also go against the entire idea of the film and so while yes it would have been nice for those side characters to have some character development the plot most always come first and if the plot of the film really doesn't demand that those characters need character development then they shouldn't get any with the running time that this film does have really serving the film perfectly but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a drama that means that I have to actually talk about the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. As all of this films drama does feel really character driven as it's all things that the characters really would say and do with all of this films drama also helping to hit home the fact that not only is Arthur Fleck's adult life really messed up but as we find out late on in the film his childhood was also really messed up and the film does touch upon that and we find out how what Arthur when through in his childhood thanks to his mother the one person who is meant to protect him no matter what as she allowed these awful things to happen and because of that we get this truly wonderful scene between the two of them where he finally snaps and does the one thing that no one should ever do and that's kill his one mother and while yes he has killed before in this film it's this act that truly sets hm up for the even more shocking scene where Arthur now going as Joker kills Murray on live TV after dressing down the entire audience just by using not only some really dark and disturbing jokes but also by using some home truth as well all of which really is just a really good example of just how good this films drama really is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall Joker: Folie à Deux really does have alot to live up to as this film more then holds up even five years later and given how this film ends it doesn't really leave itself open for a sequel but as a film in it's own right this film is just so good as it's really clear as day that everyone involved with making this film wanted to make a really truly great comic book film and that's exactly what we got with this very film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked abut all of the good and and well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 9.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all pf the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official DC Movies fandom wiki page , the official Batman fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Batman fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the really great the official Batman fandom wiki page are all really high quality and in definition with really with all of the images that really are all currently up and really presently on the really great and the really solid the official Batman fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
