The Batman Film Review
While Batman has been the star of many TV shows and movies over the decades in just a few days time it's The Penguin that will be taking centre stage. As such it was only about right that to do a tie in review and while it was pretty difficult to decide on what the tie in review should be on at the end of the day there really was only one clear winner and that's the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today and so then join me as I review the film that's a better remake of The Crow then the actual remake of The Crow really was with the film in question being called simply just "The Batman" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a masked killer starts killing of all of the rich and powerful people in Gotham it's up to a young Batman and Catwoman to put a stop to this crime before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented t us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the plot of this film being not that shockingly dark as many might think as Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm also had a similar dark tone to it and the tone of the films plot is something that does help to set it apart from all of the other live action Batman films which have mostly been fairly light in nature and yet with this film we get a plot that's really dark with the really dark nature of the films also fitting it really well with the world that this films plot does take place and while yes the plot of this film could have been alot more better then what it was as there some parts that do come across as being forced and others that are there just to get the shippers interested in the film on the whole the overall plot of the film is a really good plot not just a good Batman plot but a good plot in general with this films plot also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman and Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman. Also starring in this film is Paul Dano as Edward Nashton / The Riddler , Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon , John Turturro as Carmine Falcone , Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson , Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál , Gil Perez-Abraham as Martinez , Peter McDonald as William Kenzi , Alex Ferns as Pete Savage , Hana Hrzic as Annika , Sandra Dickinson as Dory , Luke Roberts as Thomas Wayne , Stella Stocker as Martha Wayne , Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth and Colin Farrell as Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot / The Penguin.
Now then in terms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which really shouldn't be all that surprising as this films co-writer , co-producer and director Matt Reeves really does know how to get a really good performance out of his actors something which is on full display here in this film with this also being helped that all of this films actors be they in major roles or in minor roles are all a bunch of really good actors in there own right with them all turning in some really good performances and while yes Robert Pattinson does make for a decent Batman he doesn't make for a good Bruce Wayne as he's playing Bruce Wayne the same way that6 he's playing Batman when the two should be played separately as Bruce Wayne is the true mask and Batman is who he really is with the acting that's in this very film really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Industrial Light & Magic , Scanline VFX , Wētā FX , Crafty Apes , Territory Studio and Igene Xforia. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with the makers of this film using CGI for what it was truly intended for and that's for enhancing what was already there on the day of filming and for creating things that they couldn't possibly do practically and as a result of that is the fact that we get alot of really good CGI effects in this film which really isn't all that new given what effects companies are working on this film and yet even with that mind it's still really hard to tell what was done in a computer and what was done practically on set as that's how well done the CGI effects are in this film with it looking like alot of what was included in this film looking like it was done practically when that just wouldn't be possible with alot of the shots that they have in this film and because 0of that is the fact that we get alot of really good CGI effects that really do blend in really well with all of the films practical effects with the CGI holding up really well all of these years later.
Believe it or not this film is actually a better remake of The Crow then the actual remake of The Crow was. As both films look so strikingly similar to each other and both films do have the main character deal with the death of a loved one only in this film it's something that actually works and the film doesn't spend almost all of it's running time setting up a couple that we know is not going to make it out alive where as with The Crow remake they spent alot of time in setting up the relationship between Eric and his girlfriend then they did actually have him as The Crow and trying to work out who it was that killed them both in the first place and heck even both main characters of both films are pretty much emo with this film coming across as a more better version of The Crow remake as this film at least gives you a reason to care for the Wayne's as characters that makes you want to see Bruce come out on top and while yes Bruce does have his moments were he does come across as being unlikable they are very few and far between where as with the remake of The Crow the remake version of Eric isn't unlikable or likable he's just there for the sake of being there and that's really it with him coming across more of an afterthought instead of being a fully developed character and the fact that that film was pulled from cinemas's barely a few months into it's run only hits home that this film is better remake of The Crow then the actual remake of The Crow was in the first place.
For some strange reason this film also has Bruce utter the line "Your Not My Father" to Alfred far to early in this universe's run. As this is something that should be a huge emotional gut punch not only to the characters but to us the audience as well and doing it in the first film when we the audience don't know these versions of the characters all that well are know how this world works either just undercuts what a powerful moment that should be as a line like that would be better served if it was the second or even third film in this universe and while yes of course the makers of this film couldn't have known that they were going to a second film and so they would of course want to put there best stuff into this film that one line now looses all impact as it's said far to early in Bruce Wayne's character arc of learning to become the Batman that we all know and love when that kind of line should be something that's said as an absolute last resort when everything is going against him and he's stressed out and yet here since he's basically an emo in this film it instead makes him come across as being a spoilt kid and nothing more then that that which in turn is at odds with the fact that he does show signs of being a really smart when it comes to working on the actual mystery of this film all of which makes you wonder what the actual gut punch moment will be in the future films as now the makers of this film have played the best gut punch that they actually could have done in the first film when it would have been better served for being in later film in this cinematic universe.
In a rather bold move not only does this film have The Riddler as the main villain but he's also the films only villain. With the character himself coming across as being genuinely creepy and while yes the character is a decent villain in this film but he's also not one that's really well written either as his end goal isn't made all that clear which is fine for a character like The Joker but for a character like The Riddler he really does need an end goal in mind even if it's just something as basic as wanting to take over Gotham here he just seems to be killing off all of these rich and powerful people just for the sake of it and not because it's helps him reach his end goal and as a result of that is the fact that t does make it hard to fully by into him as a character and while yes it is really easy to hate this villain due to how creepy he is with him freaking out when he finds out that Batman doesn't agree with him like he assumed that he would do just because of the fact that there both orphans and that's really it and that's not enough to make him an interesting character as all it does is make him a creepy character that doesn't have any end goal in mind and while he is a character that's perfect for the first film in a new Batman universe he's also a classic Batman villain and thus should be treated with some sort of respect as while The Joker does get alot of resect from how he's portrayed The Riddler also doesn't something which is true for the most case in this film as well.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and fifty three minuets and thirty seven seconds. Which is not only the perfect running time for this film to have as the film really does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that large amount of running time with this films running time also being the longest running time for any Batman film be it animated or live action and to be fair this film really does take full advantage of that by developing not only it's plot to it's absolutely fullest extent as it possibly could have done but also by developing not only alot of this films characters but also the world in which this film takes place in as well but at the same time tho there some things that could have been cut out of the film like the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle which was only put in there just to appease the Tumblr and X shippers and not because of the fact that it adds anything to the overall plot f the film and the other thing that could have been removed are some scenes with Bruce Wayne and Carmine Falcone as alot of them are just repeating stuff that they mention in there other scenes together which make them feel like padding when this film really doesn't need any kind of padding with the same also being true for the extra third act ending which really isn't needed at all but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in al honesty not that bad. As this films action was wonderfully shot and it did look good for the most part as it was hard to tell what was actually going for the most part just due to the fact that alot of this films action was filmed in the dark and that did make it hard to tell what was actually going alot of the time but what little of the action that we could actually see does look really good with this films action being filled to the brim with alot of cool moments with the most cool moment in the film being where the Batmobile jumps threw flames just to carry on chasing down The Penguin as that's just such a cool image and the the idea of having the Batmobile jumping throw flames to carry on chasing a villain is never not going to be a cool thing to see in any piece of Batman media and while the film the film does have alot of very hard to see hand to hand fighting in them what we can see does look really good with the same thing also being true for alot of this films actin as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film was such a good film and it;s not hard to see why it's getting not only a TV series spin off but also a sequel film and if the rumours are to be believed a second TV series as well but at the same time there are quite clearly some growing problems with this film that will absolutely need to be fixed by the time The Batman Part 2 in just a few short years time comes out in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies ans gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official The Crow fandom wiki page , the official The Batman Universe fandom wiki page , IMP Awards .
