The People's Joker Film Review
Parody of films are a badge of honor as it shows that your film has truly made it into the mainstream pop culture zeitgeist. However that doesn't always means that those parody films are good infact alot of them are quite often voted as some of the worst films ever made well now we have yet another parody film that due to it's subject matter and it's diverse cast won't get get on any bad films list despite the fact that it is a bad film and so then join me as I review that was pulled by Warner Bros Pictures for some time with the film in question being called simply just "The People's Joker" enjoy.
The plot of this film is a young boy growing up in Smallville dreams of making it big in Gotham City as a comedian only to discover that the path to success is alot more harder then first thought. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the problem as the plot of this film isn't all that god either with the plot of this film being so wafer thin that at times it is hard to tell what the actual plot of the film even is in the first place as the films plot just comes and goes as and when it pleases which does make it hard to tell what the actual plot of this film is even meant to be in the first place all of which combine to make this film feel pointless as the films plot has no stakes and feels secondary to everything else that's going on in the film with the plot of this film also not being really rather entertaining and as well as being not really being really rather engaging either in in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is this films co-writer , editor and director Vera Drew as Joker The Harlequin / Vera. Also starring in this film is Kane Distler as Mr. J , Lynn Downey as Vera's Mother , Nathan Faustyn as The Penguin , David Liebe Hart as Ra's Al Ghul , Phil Braun as Batman , Maria Bamford as The Voice Of Lorne Michaels , Christian Calloway as Dr. Jonathan Crane , Trevor Drinkwater as The Riddler , Ruin Carroll as The Voice Of Poison Ivy , Tim Heidecker as Perry White , Scott Aukerman as The Voice of Mr. Freeze , Bob Odenkirk as The Voice of Bob the Goon , Arden Hughes as The Voice of The UCB Computer , Dan Curry as Bane , Robert Wuhl as Himself , Alec Robbins as Mr. Boop , Cricket Arrison as The Creeper , Mia Moore Marchant as The Huntress , Ember Knight as The Voice of Mxy , Sandy Honig as The Voice of Mr. Boop’s Wife , Eliot Glazer as Lil Timmy Too Times , Denali Winter as The Voice of Clark Kent , Bambi Belle as The Voice of Lois Lane and Rome L. Davis as The Social Worker.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not all that good. Which does stem from two things the first of which being that it's clear as day that this films co-writer , editor and director Vera Drew really has no clue how to direct her cast which does make sense as she's never directed before now infact she's an editor by profession with this film being her directorial debut and the second thing being that alot of this films actors are a bunch of unknown or at best very little known actors most of which haven't really acted or done very little acting before now and so give the kind of performances that you'd expect from somebody who has very little acting experience with the acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is just so bad as it gives none of this films actors absolutely nothing to work with in terms of what it is that there respective characters are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does hurt the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.
For once it's actually impossible to tell who did the CGI for this film as there's no effects company listed anywhere online. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad which given that there's chance that the people who helped to fund this film might have also done the CGI for this film as well the effects in this film don't look that bad as they do look alot better then what they really had any right to but at the same time tho alot of this films effects do look cheap and which as has the add on effect of making this film look cheap as well and while this is something that really couldn't have been helped at all as alot of the production of this film was outsourced to those who helped to fund it at the same time there should have been some form of quality control put in place to make sure that the effects that are in this film are at the very least consistent and share the same art style instead of having several different share different art styles with the films quality control also being used to make sure that the effects look good something which is quite clearly missing from the film itself.
For those of you that don't know this film is very loose parody of the film Joker with the film not really spoofing anything from that film. As the film instead just makes Joker the good guy and Batman the bad guy for no reason whatsoever which is something that would have worked in the film Joker as that film was told from the dark twisted mind of Joker where as in this film even tho it's told from the same point of view it doesn't work as this parody version of the character isn't presented as someone who is mentally ill as there instead presented as someone who is mentally OK and as a result of that is the fact that making all of the bad guys the good guys and making Batman the bad guy really doesn't work as all it does is make it seem like the creator of this film really hates the Batman character something that might actually be true as she openly admitted that when she was putting together a more comedic cut of Joker she found herself pretty much falling in love with the character of Arthur Fleck / Joker and yet even tho this film is meant to be a parody of Joker it has more in common with Batman Forever and batman & Robin then it does Joker.
For some reason the creator of this film chose to make this film all about her coming out and make this film a coming of age story. Even tho that's not something that would work with any version of Joker as on paper the character of Joker is someone who isn't all there mentally and is willing to do whatever it takes just to tell a joke that only he would find funny and that kind of character just doesn't lend itself to a story like this one and making yourself the main character and making the whole film all about you makes you look like an egotist as all your doing is shining the light on you instead of doing what you set out to do and that's make a parody of a very popular that alot of people know and love and one that is very open to parody as there are alot of things to make fun about in that film and yet this film doesn't do that as it's more focused on being a coming of age type of story and while the creator of the film Vera Drew has every single right to do whatever they want to do with there own film it's still something that has to work with the character and the film that there meant to be parodying and not just be there for the sake of being there.
This film does give us a romance between basically two different versions of The Joker which is something that does work in the context of the film. As it's something that does add something to the overall plot of the film and to the main characters own personal journey of learning to happy with themselves and not be happy because someone told them to be happy but at the same time it's a romance that just doesn't work at all as both characters are so clearly troubled characters and are only there just to make there respective parental figures angry and nothing more then that and while Vera Drew's character Joker The Harlequin does be the one to break up the relationship the second that it becomes to much for the character to handle it is something that the character should have seen coming as the Mr. J the character that Joker The Harlequin is in love is straight up a toxic character right from the word go something that alot of the side character even comment on and even when Joker The Harlequin breaks up they still remain friends by the ed of the film thus undoing alot of the characters character development as a character like Mr. J who is more close to the actual Joker then Joker The Harlequin is will always be a manipulative character and really nothing more then that.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty minuets and twenty five seconds. Which is a bit on the long side for this film to have as the film really doesn't have alot there interms of pot o really cover that large amount of running time with this being made all the more worse when you take into account that it takes at the very least fifteen minuets for the plot of the film to get going with those first fifteen minuets being taken up with pointless backstory that adds very little to the actual plot of the film and would have been better used if they were spread out all throughout the film instead of being dumped at us the audience all in one go as all that does is mess with the flow of the film which as an editor you'd think that Vera Drew would know all about and would actively try to avoid but for some strange reason she just doesn't and instead makes editing choices that really makes no sense and really only serve to harm the film but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us n this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty funny but not in the way that you'd want it to be. As while all of the films jokes aren't that funny this is film is so cringy and so bad that it does come across as being funny and as result of that is the fact that instead of laughing with the film you end up laughing at the film be it because of it's bad effects or acting choices this film does come across as being unintentionally hilarious and that is something that might be the films saving grace as it means that this film does get the right to be called a comedy as none of the films jokes that we the audience are meant to be laughing at just aren't that funny as there all jokes that even on paper aren't funny and will never be funny in anyways whatsoever in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film might as well be the worst film of the year as it really is just that bad of a film with this being made worse by the fact that it's not even a film that's so bad it's good it's just a film that's bad and it doesn't even lean into the fact that it's a parody of Joker and instead feels more like a love letter to both Batman Forever and Batman & Robin which means that even the film doesn't bother to make fun of Joker and the film does suffer because of that fact in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 3 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official batman fandom wiki page, IMP Awards . Com and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great Google Images this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from Google Images are all really high quality with all the images that are currently up and on the great Google Images really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
