Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review

For some strange reason Hollywood has gotten itself into the habit of producing sequels to franchises that any people thought were dead and buried. With the film that i'm going to be revieing for you all today being one example as even tho it's been in the works for a long time now many people thought that the Beverly Hills Cop franchise really was dead and buried and even the fact that they tried to continue it with a 2013 pilot series that didn't get picked up really seemed to prove that point even more so and so then join me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that sees Eddie Murphy return to a famous location with the film in question being called simply just "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when his daughters life is threatened Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills and along with a new partner uncovers a conspiracy that involves the Beverly Hills Police Department. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about thew actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as while the plot of the film does try to recapture the spirit and tone of the first film it just fails to do so and instead comes across as capturing the spirit and ton of the sequels with the plot of this film being a really inventive and while Axel's reason for making the long trip back to Beverly Hills does seem like a generic idea it does it's purpose well enough and the plot does a good job of letting us know where the legacy characters are now in a way that feels organic and natural with the plot of this film being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is one of this films producers Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Detective Bobby Abbott. Also starring in this film is Kevin Bacon as Captain Cade Grant , Taylour Paige as Jane Saunders , Judge Reinhold as William "Billy" Rosewood , John Ashton as Chief John Taggart , Paul Reiser as Jeffrey Friedman , Bronson Pinchot as Serge and Wednesday star Luis Guzmán as Chalino Valdemoro.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then  in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With the actors that you expect a good performance from really delivering exactly that but that's also the issue as the kind of performance that you expect from these actors and as a result of that is the fact that your not surprised when they turn in the exact same performance that they turn in every single movie or TV show that they make and while all of the returning legacy characters do have some really good performances what lets the acting down quite a bit is with the films new characters where the performances for those characters are very hit and miss with the acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that the script for this film doesn't really give the actors anything to work with interms of what it is that there respective characters personalities are even meant to be in the first place which is something that really does lower the overall quality of the acting that's in this film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Basilic Fly Studio , Gentle Giant Studios , Halon Entertainment and Scanline VFX. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as all of it was very well hidden CGI which is the best kind of CGI as those are effects that you won't ever notice until it's pointed out and it's a great use of CGI as a tool as your using it to create things that you couldn't possibly do on the day for whatever reason but with that being said there some really painfully obvious effects in this film and it's those effects that really do stand out a mile as there right there in your face where as the rest of the films CGI is so well hidden that at times at hard to tell when there using CGI and when there using practical effects or not as that's just how good the overall vast majority of the CGI effects are in this film.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!!

This film is basically like Bill & Ted Face The Music in that both sets of main characters have daughters who work with the main character in order to achieve a goal. Except where as with Face The Music where the daughters where actually likable characters who were exactly like there dads where as with Jane it's the opposite that's true as while she indeed like Axel in someways she's just not that likable as a character as she doesn't get along with her father and spends the vast majority of the films running time arguing with her father and while her hated for her father is understandable as he really wasn't there for her growing up at the same time she also needed to be more of a likable character as she is someone who could be used to carry the franchise forward should the makers of this film choose not to do a fifth film with Eddie Murphy in the lead role which given he's age is a possibility and yet the audience won't want to watch that film because of the fact that the character wasn't made to be all that likable of a character.

As a comedy this film does fair really well as there some decent jokes to be found in this film but at the same time the jokes in this film aren't that good either. As alot of this films jokes feel like there are already dated as there are alot of jokes about modern day society except the things that it brings up and makes fun of are things that are old and dated where as if you look at the first film all of those jokes are timeless and still make people laugh to this very day heck this film has a joke about people having really tiny dogs something which hasn't been funny since the mid to late two thousands and it makes a social influencer joke something which hasn't been done since the early 2020's and yet if you compare it with the jokes from the first film all of those jokes feel timeless and that's because the things that there making fun of and joking about are things that people still joke about to this day and that people still talk about to this very day and while yes this film does have some really decent jokes in it this film isn't as funny as it could have been given the cast who we know can be funny due to the fact that we've seen them in other better and funnier things and yet there not really given all that actually funny things to say or do.

To be frank this films main villain Captain Cade Grant just isn't that good of a villain this is despite the fact that on paper he really should have worked. As someone who is spreading corruption in the police force does open itself up to a good villain and yet due to how the character is written he comes across as being a weak villain as we don't even get to find out why he's doing what he's doing and as a result of that is the fact that it just comes across as him being evil for the sake of being evil which is a shame as character like this one could have worked if you made him a character that Axel had already met and wronged in the past and the police did nothing to help him for whatever reason as this would not only give him a reason for hating the police force and believe that there's corruption in there but it also give him a personal hatred towards Foley thus making the scene where he kidnaps Jane all the more impactful as there's some personal history there even if Axel himself doesn't even realise it yet and yet because of the fact that the makers of this film didn't do that he just comes across as a waste of a really good idea.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty seven minuets and fifty six seconds. Which is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for this franchise and to this films credit it does have more then enough there interms of plot to really cover that large amount of running time as the film does have some decent amount of subplots for alot of it's character to pad out that running time without actually doing harm to the man plot of the film as well but at the same time tho there are subplots that are there just for filler and padding like the fact that there's a subplot between William "Billy" Rosewood and Chief John Taggart which really does come across as filler and is purely there just for fanservice as it doesn't really add anything to the plot of this film as it's just just for the sake of being there and it's something that really could have been removed from the final cut of the film as well and as a result of that is the fact that there subplot is the closest thing to filler that this film gets but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty the most fun aspect of the film. As this film really does have some really creative and inventive action scenes all throughout it and while yes alot of this films action does indeed boil down to who can shoot who first we do get some really inventive lead ups to those moments like the fact that in order to escape from the police Axel and his new partner steal a police helicopter and barely fly it around the city before crashing it in a gold course and stealing several vehicles one of which they then use to break down the gates of the villain which is a fun sequence but the best action scene in the whole film is oddly enough the opening action due to the fact that they somehow manage to do a really inventive action scene with Axel driving a garbage truck which is just a pure fun idea in a pure fun action sequence in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!

Overall while this is a decent film and it does show that there is live still in this franchise yet it's also a sign that this might franchise might need to hold of on it's returning characters and fix the issues that it has with it's new characters as those are going to be the ones leading the franchise forward in possible future films with this film not being that good of an introduction for alot of the new characters in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all f the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally sued in this very review from the official Bill & Ted fandom wiki page , the official Beverly Hills Cop fandom wiki page , IMP Awards .
