Alice In Wonderland 1951 Film Review

To say that Walt Disney Pictures have turned out a bunch of really good animated films in there time would be a huge understatement. As alot of Walt Disney animated films even the modern ones are really good films heck Disney have practically made a whole genre out of remaking there classic animated films all for no reason with the film that i'm going to be reviewing for you all today not only being one such film  but also being a truly nonsensical film and so then join me as I review the film that proves that being nonsensical can be a good thing with the film in question being called simply just "Alice In Wonderland" enjoy.

The plot of this film is young Alice enters the magical and nonsensical world world of Wonderland and has to try and find her home before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really nonsensical but instead of that being a bad thing that is oddly enough a really good thing as the world of wonderland is a world where anything really can and does happen and as a result of that is the fact that any plot that's set in this world shouldn't make sense and should be as thin as possible as having a plot that does make sense and isn't thin as possible would feel wrong and would be going against the whole world of wonderland as this is a world that really doesn't require a whole lot of plot in order to be entertaining it just requires the most bare bones plot and that's really it and that's something that this film really does have with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Kathryn Beaumont as Alice , Ed Wynn as Mad Hatter and Richard Haydn as Caterpillar. Also starring in this film is Sterling Holloway as Cheshire Cat , Jerry Colonna as March Hare , Verna Felton as Queen of Hearts , J. Pat O'Malley as Tweedledum , Tweedledee , Walrus and Carpenter , Bill Thompson as White Rabbit and Dodo , Heather Angel as Alice's Sister , Joseph Kearns as Doorknob , Larry Grey as Bill The Lizard , Queenie Leonard as Bird In The Tree / Snooty Iris , Dink Trout as King of Hearts , Doris Lloyd as The Rose , Jimmy MacDonald as Dormouse / Flamingo , The Mellomen as The Card Painters , Don Barclay as The Card Soldiers , Lucille Bliss as The Lazy Daisies / The Tulips , Pinto Colvig as The Flamingos , Jimmy Luske as The Young Pansies , Tommy Luske as The Young Pansies , Marni Nixon as The Singing Flowers , Norma Zimmer as White Rose , Erdman Penner as The Eagle and Ken Beaumont as Card Painter.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us un this very film well then in all honesty  in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films actors turning in some really good performances which really shouldn't be that much of a surprise as this films cast are a bunch of voice acting actors many of whom have starred in various other Disney projects and all of whom are Disney legends and as a result of that is the fact that it really isn't all that surprising that they would turn in a good performance in this film as they are a bunch of really good actors and even tho Bill Thompson basically uses his Mr. Smee voice for the white rabbit the performance is still really strong even tho the voice does nothing but remind you of Peter Pan with the acting in this film really being helped by the f act that the script for this film is just so good that all this films cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this film.

Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good which is really not all that surprising as Walt Disney Animation Studios have always done some really good animation in all of there films with the same thing also being true for there bad films as well with the animation in this film looking truly breathtaking with the film having alot of really creative camera movements that would have been difficult to do even back then with the characters even having some really fluid character movements to them and all of the backgrounds looking truly stunning with each of them worthy of being considered a piece of art because that's how good they look with all of the backgrounds really going a long way to make Wonderland feel more of an actual character then what they really had any right to do with all of the characters feeling alive because that's just how good this films animation really is as it holds up really well of these years later.

Wonderland as a whole is perfectly described by Alice herself as being a place where everything is what it is and everything is what it isn't. Which is such a perfect way to describe wonderland as it's place where anything can happen and where everything should happen as well with that entire world basically something that a child would make as a child would have the imagination needed to make Wonderland as out there and as crazy as it is and yet at the exact same time the world feels like it's a character in the film with there being alot of small details that add to the overall weirdness that's in this land with different signs telling you to go different ways to go to the same destination and even the language that thew characters add to the lore of the world and it's something that makes this world feel alot more real then what it really had any right to and it is really is a testament to the makers of this film as they knew that Wonderland had to feel like a character in the film as that's where we the audience were going to be spending alot of the films running time and this would allow for a sharp contrast with the real world which feels flat and boring but it's by design as it's meant to make Wonderland look more appealing in the eyes of children.

Alice herself isn't the best character in the film as while she does have alot of flaws which she does have to overcome. She also followed a rabbit for no reason other then wanting to know where he was going which just makes her look like a dumb character and while yes she does have the advantage of being a kid and so she there for wouldn't be the sharpest tool in the box but she should know not to run off from her sister without telling her where she's going let alone follow someone who is quite literally a stranger to her as for all she could know that rabbit could have been leading her to harm something that does almost happen when she falls down the rabbit hole and almost happens at several points in the film and while she does have to over come all of her flaws including following a stranger in order to get home it still doesn't change the fact that that opening scene with her and the white rabbit does make her come across as being dumb this isn't helped bu the fact that for a large portion of the films running time she really doesn't do anything to advance the plot of the film with her instead willingly just walking around Wonderland bumping into characters instead of actively taking steps to push along the plot of the film and get herself home but on the flip side of that is the fact she is also a really fun character as well.

While this film does somewhat have a villain with The Queen Of Hearts this is a film that really doesn't need a villain. As it's plot doesn't really demand a villain be present and while yes her inclusion does mean that we get some highly entertaining scenes in the movie the villain herself comes in to late into the story that she really doesn't have that much of an impact on the actual plot of the film which again does make sense as this film should do things that make sense as that would go against the world of Wonderland as a whole but at the same time if your going to go through the trouble of giving us a villain then the villain in question should at least have some sort of impact on the actual plot of the film instead of just showing up for a few scenes and then chasing Alice all across Wonderland until she finds her way back to her world and while yes the The Queen Of Hearts is a hugely entertaining villain who comes across as being really childlike in nature which is perfectly fitting as it matches the one of that world it also doesn't make all that threatening of a film with the only thing that she does that is somewhat threatening is threaten to chop off Alice's head and that's really it and while that does make her a threatening villain it's also something that doesn't mesh well with the tone of this world and it comes across as being an empty threat as we see that Alice could easily have escaped from her at any time that she wanted.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running tie of exactly one hour and fifteen minuets and sixteen seconds. Which does make this film one of if not the shortest Disney animated feature length film ever made with this film having the perfect amount of running time as the film really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to really over that large amount of running time as the film is basically just an extended episode of any sketch show with Alice just going around Wonderland bumping into random characters where she gets into soe hijinks with them and then leaves when she sees the white rabbit and it's wash and repeat until she meets The Queen Of Hearts and that's really it and that's is something that does works for this film as it does add a certain charm for this film as it proves that you dont need to have to deep plot with a solid running time to fully understand the film as sometimes all you need is a basic plot with likable characters where you can just watch them doing whatever it is that they do best and that is something that works well for this film due to not only the small amount of plot but also the small amount of running time which really does make this film a breeze to sit through but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the film having alot of cute of funny moments mostly due to Dinah and Alice but the film does also tell alot of annoying jokes with The Mad Hatter and The March hare having a running joke about singing a song whenever someone says that it's there unbirthday which does start of as being cute but it then gets annoying the more that it keeps on coming back with the funniest thing in the film not even being joke as it seeing Alice storm of from The Caterpillar which is something that most likely wasn't meant to be to funny but because of the fact that Alice was presented as a really likable character who we genuinely want to see succeed in her quest of getting home it does come across as being funny with alot of the jokes that Alice has being like that and because of that they all mostly land with there being some very few misses from the kinds of jokes that the makers of this film give Alice to tell or even do in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film is a good definition of a Disney Classic as it really does have all of the trademarks that you'd come to expect from a Disney Classic animated film like good comedy , likable characters and animation that really does hold up really all of these years later and so much more and heck even Disney themselves keep on going back to the Alice well as recently as 2022 with the Disney Junior animated TV series "Alice's Wonderland Bakery" which does go to show you just how good this film not only really was but still is as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now the i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Disney fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images really from this very film being the really great the official Disney fandom wiki page this is really because of the fact that really all of the images that I really indeed got and really used from the official Disney fandom wiki page are all really high quality with all the images that are currently up and on the great the official Disney fandom wiki page really are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
