Beauty And The Beast 1991 Film Review
We are in the month of romance and well with Disney really struggling on both there animation front and there live action front. It only made sense to remind people of just how good they can be when there really trying and when there back is firmly against the wall as this is a film that came out when Disney was just hitting it's more successful period for decades and so then join me as I review the film that really is a tale as old as time with the film in question being called simply just "Beauty And The Beast" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when a young girl takes her fathers place as prisoner to a Beast she finds that the beast isn't all he seems to be. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films plot being both something new and something that we've already seen before as the key plot for the film of someone finding love in an unexpected place with someone that they didn't quite expect is a tale that we've already seen be told in other films but what makes this films take on the tale seem new is that it adds just enough new elements to it that it seems new again with the plot of this film also being really entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Paige O'Hara as Belle , Robby Benson as The Beast and Richard White as Gaston. Also starring in this film is Jerry Orbach as Lumière , David Ogden Stiers as Cogsworth , Dame Angela Lansbury as Mrs. Potts , Bradley Pierce as Chip , Rex Everhart as Maurice , Jesse Corti as LeFou , Jo Anne Worley as The Wardrobe , Hal Smith as Philippe , Brian Cummings as The Stove , Alvin Epstein as The Bookseller , Tony Jay as Monsieur D'Arque , Kimmy Robertson as The Featherduster and Frank Welker as Sultan.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films cast members turning in some truly phenomenal performances with all of this films actors being so well known for there roles in this film that it's hard for anybody to picture anybody playing these roles be it in either animation or live action as this films cast are just so good as these characters with the acting in this film really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that al this films cast have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out naturally as that's just how good not only this films cast but also how good this films script really is.
Doing the animation for this film is the legends and the greats that are currently over at Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty fantastic with this film blending both traditional 2D hand drawn animation 3D CGI animation effortlessly with the films animation not only holding up all of these many years later but also looking better then alot of the animated films that are being made today as this films animation is just that good with the film really being worth watching just for the films fantastic looking animation alone.
Belle is a good example of how to write a strong Disney Princess as she has flaws that she has to overcome. Like for example she is to trusting of a character with her willing to trust anyone just because they seemed like a good person and yet we see in the films third act how that gets her into trouble and she has to overcome that and learn that not everybody will be trust worthy and that not everybody is who they appear to be and she's also a character that also has a personality with her being a fun and spunky character who has alot of wit about her and that makes her a character that's fun to watch and this is something that the live action remake Belle is not as that version of the character is just a bland and wooden character who lacks a personality and is written as a perfect character and that made her a boring character whereas this version of the character is anything but a dull and boring character.
This film is of course a musical which has songs that are written by the great Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. With this films songs being just a joy to listen to with them being the kind of songs that are truly iconic Disney songs for all of the right reasons and not because they got popular on either Youtube or Tiktok and while there are some songs that aren't that good like for example "The Mob Song" which is still a good song it's just not as good as all of the other songs in this film with the best song in this film being the titular song "Beauty and the Beast" which is sung beautifully by the great Dame Angela Lansbury who just kills it singing that song and makes the sing even better then it already is with the song itself also being really well written on top of being really well sung and it's a really good example of just how good Disney could be when they have a really good song writer writing the songs and a really good singer singing the songs as well all of which are really true for all of the songs that are in this film.
The one thing that really does let this film down is the films villain as while Gaston is indeed a really good villain. He's not really on screen all that long nor does he have alot of screen time all of which means that he doesn't have alot of time to leave a mark on us the audience as a villain with the film instead being more focused on building up the romance between Belle and The Beast which does make sense but at the same time you have to also build up your villain in order to make him seem like a credible threat to our heroes with this also having the knock on effect of making our heroes seem like less interesting as when you make the villain seem like a less interesting it makes the heroes seem like less likable characters as if you don't have a strong enough villain then you don't have a strong enough main set of heroes.
Now then this film has / has an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty one minuets and forty four seconds. Which is a solid running time for this film to have as the film has more then enough plot there to cover that amount of running time but at the same time the film could have benefited from having just a slightly longer running time as that would then allow the film makers to develop Gaston just that little bit more and make him a more credible threat to both The Beast and Belle but at the same time it would also run the risk of stretching this film plot even thinner then what it already is and that would in the end do alot more harm to the film then it would good as it would make all of the films minor issues now seem alot more like major issues as we the audience would now be forced to focus on those issues alot more then what we already are but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then as this is a romance film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual romance that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual romance that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this being because of the fact that the romance is something that's really well written and is given a whole lot of focus with us the audience seeing Belle and The Beast going from strangers , to friends and finally to being in a romantic relationship with each other which is alot more natural then how alot more modern films do with there romance plot where it just comes out of nowhere with this films romance being helped by the fact that both The Beast and Belle being made to extremely likable and layered characters that we got to know really well and we therefore would thus want to see them get together in the end of the film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is just as stunning and is just as beautiful to watch nowadays as it was back when this film was when the film was first released and as such it's a film that really does stand the test of time and is truly a really timeless film because of it in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Disney fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being the official Disney fandom wiki page this is because all of the images that I got for this review and that are still of course currently up and really are on the really great the official Disney fandom wiki page with them all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
