Muppet Treasure Island Film Review

There's no denying the fact that The Muppets saw a resurgence in popularity in the early to late nineteen nineties. Wit the characters appearing in three films , a range of video games and numerous TV shows all throughout the decade well there's one Muppet film that not alot of people talk about and that's the very film that I want to talk about today and so then join meas I review the film was the last good Muppet film of the nineteen nineties with the film in question being called simply just "Muppet Treasure Island" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when young Jim Hawkins and his friends Gonzo and Rizzo join a pirate ship they find themselves on a head on collision course with the legendary pirate Long John Silver and stop him once and for all. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented tom us in this very film well then in al honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this films plot being alot better then what it really had any right to be but at the same time tho this films plot isn't as good as it perhaps should have been this is despite the fact tho that this films plot is really rater and is also rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Dave Goelz as The Great Gonzo , Dr. Bunsen Honeydew / Dr. David Livesey , Waldorf / Figurehead , Zoot / Crew Member and Mudwell The Mudbunny and Steve Whitmire as Kermit The Frog / Captain Abraham Smollett , Rizzo The Rat , Beaker / Dr. Livsey's Assistant and Walleye Pike. Also starring in this film is this films executive producer Frank Oz as The Voice Of Miss Piggy / Benjamina Gunn , The Voice Of Fozzie Bear / Squire Trelawney , The Voice Of Sam Eagle / Mr. Samuel Arrow and The Voice Of Animal , Jerry Nelson as Statler / Figurehead , Lew Zealand / Crew Member and Floyd Pepper / Crew Member , Bill Barretta as The Swedish Chef and Jacques Roach , John Henson as Sweetums , Louise Gold as Brool The Minstrel , Kevin Bishop as Jim Hawkins , Sir Billy Connolly as Billy Bones , Jennifer Saunders as Mrs. Sarah Bluveridge and Tim Curry as Long John Silver.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of the The Muppets actors turning in some really really solid performances but what let's the acting down down quite a bit is the fact that the films human characters aren't that well acted not that there performances aren't that bad because there not but rather there not as good as they should have been with the human actors really playing up to The Muppets which is fine in certain films but it's not something that really works all that well for this film with the acting in this film not really being helped by the fact that the script for this film is pretty bad with the script giving this films cast next to nothing to work with interms of what there respective characters personalities are even meant to be which means that the films cast can't turn in that good of a performance as the films script really just won't allow for it.

To give this film some credit it is trying to be good but it's lacking alot of the things that make for a good Muppet film. Like for example alot of the good Muppet films always try to innovate and do new things with there characters and yet this film does none of that as it doesn't push the boundaries of what those characters can do and what they can do with those characters something which alot of the other Muppet films did do with this film also not really taking the time to develop any of it's characters with alot of it's characters just coming across as being very one dimensional and boring at best with the character of Jim Hawkins being the best example of this as outside of the fact that we find out that he's an orphan we don't really get to find out all that much about his character which does make it hard to form a connection with his character but as it is we just really feel nothing for his character when we should be forming a connection for to his character.

What really would have helped this film is if they took the exact same approach that they took with The Muppet Christmas Carol. By having one of the The Muppet characters play the author as then they could tell us the story of the book and use exact lines of dialog from the book which is something that they can't do here as while the film does have The Muppets play characters from the book they can't do a direct adaptation of the book as just based of off the book's Wikipedia page the book goes to some rather dark places and that's not something that can be done with The Muppets but it is something that they could ave done if they had a character play the books author Robert Louis Stevenson as then they can go to those dark places just like they did with The Muppet Christmas Carol which is something that would have ultimately helped this film out in the long run.

While this film does get alot of credit for having some really good jokes and for having some really good writing in it. It's The Muppets themselves that are rather oddly let down in this film as they don't feel like The Muppets that we know and love nor are they written like The Muppets that we know and love either with the characters coming across as fan fiction versions of themselves which given that this film is co-written by regular Muppets writer Jerry Juhl really does seem odd as if there's anyone who would know these characters inside and out it's him as he's written the most when it comes to their filmography and yet for some reason in this film they just don't feel like The Muppet characters while yes they did have The Muppets play characters in the previous film they were still very much the characters that we all know and love ad yet even tho this film took that exact same approach to the characters in this film it really did make these characters really feel like characters other then The Muppets.

This film does feature songs that are written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil with this film having some decent songs in it. With perhaps the best song in this film being "Cabin Fever" as it's just a really fun song that is filled to the brim with alot of really funny moments be it in the visuals or in the songs lyrics but the second best song in the movie is quite easily "Love Led Us Here" as this is a Muppets love song and those are usually really good with it being the kind of sentimental song that you expect from The Muppets with both of the songs being not only very well written but also very well sung as well and while the songs in this film aren't as memorable as other Muppets songs they are just as fun and they both really do fit the scenes that they are apart of and both end up really helping the film quite alot.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty nine minuets and thirty five seconds. Which is a tad bit on the long side for this film as this film really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to really cover that large amount of running time which wouldn't be an issue if the the film used that time to develop the friendship between Jim and John which is key to making the film work and yet it doesn't do that at all with the film instead just telling us that there becoming friends and giving pointless scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the film and there just for padding and really nothing more then that which means that alot of those pointless scenes could have been cut out from the final cut of the film and yet for some reason there not and that really does hurt the film overall but I really will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that/s actually featured / resented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this film having some really painfully jokes in it. However those jokes are very few and far between with this film containing alot more bad jokes then in does good jokes but when this film does tell a good joke it does remind of just how good and how funny The Muppets can be when there given something to funny tom actually say and do which makes it all the more bad when you see this film give these truly iconic and funny characters some really painfully unfunny jokes tom say and do as we know for a fact that these characters can be really painfully funny in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall while this film is nowhere as good as The Muppet Christmas Carol was it's still not as bad as the following film Muppets From Space with this film being just above average at best in my freaking opinions anyways / at least Now the i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film n this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 6.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official The Muppets fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being the official The Muppets fandom wiki page this is because really all of the images that I really got and that are all really currently up and on the great the official The Muppets fandom wiki page  are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
