Rebel Moon Part One: A Child Of Fire Film Review

 

Zack Snyder a man who is quite possibly the most divisive DC Extended Universe director out there is also a man who is known for making really long and visually stunning movies that leave your jaw on the floor. Well he's back with another new movie and well you all just knew that I had to check this film the very first chance that I got and so then join me as I review the film that is meant to be the first film in a franchise with the film in question being called simply just "Rebel Moon Part One: A Child Of Fire" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when her home world is threatened by an evil government it's up to a young fighter to gather a rag tag team of warriors to fight this evil government and stop them before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us i this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the issue as this films plot wasn't all that good either as this films plot was just your stereotypical science fiction film plot and nothing more and while granted this films plot is better then the plot for Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom that really isn't a high bar to reach but this films plot was fairly entertaining and as well as being fairly engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Sofia Boutella as Kora , Djimon Hounsou as Titus and Ed Skrein as Atticus Noble. Also starring in this film is Michiel Huisman as Gunnar , Doona Bae as Nemesis , Ray Fisher as Darrien Bloodaxe , Charlie Hunnam as Kai , Sir Anthony Hopkins as The Voice Of Jimmy , Dustin Ceithamer as The Body Of Jimmy , Staz Nair as Tarak , Fra Fee as Balisarius , Cleopatra Coleman as Devra Bloodaxe , Stuart Martin as Den , Ingvar Sigurdsson as Hagen , Alfonso Herrera as Cassius , Cary Elwes as The King , Rhian Rees as The Queen , E. Duffy as Millius , Jena Malone as Harmada , Sky Yang as Aris , Charlotte Maggi as Sam , Corey Stoll as Sindri , Brandon Auret as Faunus , Ray Porter as Hickman , Tony Amendola as King Levitica , Dominic Burgess as Dash Thif , Sisse Marie as Astrid and Derek Mears as Simeon.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honest I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With the acting in this film being alot better the what it really had any right to be as on paper the acting in this film shouldn't be that good and yet the cast in this film truly do turn in some really good performances granted this films cast can't turn great performances as this films writer , director and producer Zack Snyder can't really get that good of a performance out of his cast with the script not really doing them much favors either with this films script being pretty bad as it doesn't really give the cast alot to work with interms of what there respective characters personalities are even meant which means that this films cast can't turn in a great performance as the script really just won't allow them to do so. 

Doing the CGI for this film is Weta FX , Scanline VFX , Luma Pictures , Rodeo FX , Mammal Studios and Day For Nite. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CG that;s actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good which really shouldn't be all that surprising given who is doing the CGI for this film as alot of the VFX companies that are doing the CGI for this film always provide alot of really good CGI for there media with the same thing also being true for this with this film having some of the best looking CGI to come out of America from this past year as this films CGI is just that good and is just that impressive.

To put it bluntly this film is filled to the brim with alot of really cool moments with the characters doing something cool in every action scene in this movie. Which is to be expected as Zack Snyder always fills his films with a bunch of really cool moments with this working both for and against the film as the cool moments are a great way to get people excited to watch the film but on the flip side of that is the fact that they add nothing to film and are just there for the sake of being there which is a huge problem with alot of aspects of this film as this franchises plot was stretched out to over two films when it really should have just been the one and as such that means that alot of scenes have to get stretched out which means adding in cool moments in slow motion quite alot of,the time which is fine for one action scene but alot of this films have slow motion in them and it's always a pointless thing to include in this very film.

This film has quite alot of the tropes that Zack Snyder is known for with the film having quite alot of slow motion in it and a bland bada*s female character who doesn't have alot of personality amongst many other things. While these tropes work best in small doses here they feature quite alot of the time and it gets to the point where it's very distracting to see them as all they do is take you out of the film and while Zack Snyder can be a really good director heck Army Of The Dead proved that he does need to reign in the slow motion as that is something that while great at the right moment isn't used in the right moment here with the same thing also being true for the bland female main character as a character like that works well for a film like Suck Punch where the character is in a dream like state for alot of the film but here the character isn't in a dream like state and as such she should be able to show of her personality and she should be able to tell us what her likes and dislikes are as these are things that really would have made her a more well rounded character. 

For some reason this film is not only a two part film but like alot of Zack Snyder films is also getting an extended edition. Both of these make no sense as the film is as good as it's ever going to get and the film doesn't need a part two as the story could have been wrapped up in this film but I will admit that by giving the film a part 2 and an extended edition it does mean that both the world and the characters to be fully fleshed out more something which might not have been easy to do in this film and with that in mind it does somewhat make sense that this film doesn't fully develop it's characters as it's got a part 2 coming out but at the same time there needs to be a reason to watch the sequel and judging by how this film ends there's not really a reason to watch the sequel as everything could have been fully wrapped up in this film but yet it just wasn't for no reason and out of all of the films that are a two part I do give this film credit for being written and fully devised as a two part film which means that this film really doesn't feel like an extended trailer for the second film.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and fifteen minuets and fifty eight seconds. Which is a short running time for a Zack Snyder film but it's still alot longer then what this film really should have been as this film really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to cover that large amount of running time with this film being filled up with quite alot of filler which adds nothing to the plot of the film and really could have been cut from final cut of the film all of which makes you wonder just what it is that could be added to the extended cut which is going to be around forty five minuets to an hour longer then this cut of the film which it really shouldn't be as all of the important stuff to the films plot and characters should really have been in this cut of the film but I will admit that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that means that I ave to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in al honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really cool. With this films many action scenes more often then not being the best part of the film which just goes to show you that Zack Snyder cares more abut spectacle and stunts then he does about telling a good story with good characters as when he does focus on giving us films with a good plot and characters we get films like Army Of The Dead but when he doesn't do that we get films like Sucker Punch and this film and while the action scenes in this film are really very cool to look at they lack any emotional investment as the film really doesn't bother to make you invested in any of it's characters in any shape or form in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. 

Overall this film has so much potential to be the next big franchise film and yet it just can't live up to that potential for one or reason or another but with Part 2 coming out in April 2024 only time will tell if this franchise can improve or not in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 5.5 out of 10 from me.
