Sheena Film Review
Female led comic book movies are a very rare thing indeed with very few of them being made but what's rarer is an actually good female led comic book movie. While we are getting more and more female led comic books movies these days back the eighties it would have been unheard of for a female comic book character to lead her very own comic book movie sure we got Supergirl but that was really it well as luck would have it i've stumbled upon another female led comic book movie that's from the eighties that not alot of people really might not have heard of and so then join me as I review that really is mostly forgotten about with the film in question being called simply just "Sheena" enjoy.
Th plot of this film is when her foster mother is framed for a murder that she didn't commit Sheena must leave her village and try to find the real culprit before it's far to late. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really bad as this films plot just wasn't all that interesting with the plot of the film being very cliche ridden with this not really being helped by the fact that the films plot is not only really very weak at best but also the plot of the film just straight up disappears from the film at several points in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Tanya Roberts as Sheena , Ted Wass as Vic Casey and Donovan Scott as Fletch Agronsky. Also starring in this film is Princess Elizabeth Of Tooro as Shaman , France Zobda as Countess Zanda , Trevor Thomas as Prince Otwani , Clifton Jones as King Jabalani , John Forgeham as Colonel Jorgensen , Errol John as Boto , Sylvester Williams as Juka , Bob Sherman as Grizzard , Nancy Paul as Betsy Ames and Michael Shannon as Phillip Ames.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but that's also the issue as this films acting wasn't that good either. Which can't be blamed on the actors as it's the script that's to blame as this films script is just so bad that it doesn't give the actors much to work with interms of what their respective characters personalities even is so this films cast just can't turn in a goo performance as the films script really just won't allow for it at all with the films cast trying their best to make this film s bad script work for them and still is a good performance.
For those of you that don't know this film is based of off the comic book character Sheena, Queen of the Jungle. With the character first appearing in comics in 1938 with the character receiving her own solo series in Spring 1942 this actually makes her the first ever female comic book character to be given her very own solo comic book series which predates Wonder Woman's solo series by a year and infact that wasn't the first time that Sheena would beat Wonder Woman to the punch as she would not only get her first TV series before Wonder Woman but she would of course get her very own live action solo film before Wonder Woman would as well and while the Sheena character has mostly fallen in obscurity the fact that she got a solo comic book series before Wonder Woman did is something that does need to be kept in the public conscience.
This film commits the biggest sin that a film can commit and that's the fact that this film is just plain old boring. This is something that cannot be stated enough as this film is incredibly dull with nothing happening for a vast majority of the films running time with the film employing a soap opera style of storytelling which is fine for a TV show but it's not something that works for a movie and when you add in the fact that all we are doing fr alot of this films running is seeing the characters just go about the jungle without really advancing the plot of the movie all it does is make the film really dull and boring to watch which is a shame as a film like this should be really easy to make exciting as Sheena is basically a female Tarzan and yet the makers of this film just made a dull and boring that really is a chore to sit through.
For some strange reason they chose to give Sheena a love interest in this film which just doesn't work at all. As not only is the romance itself really underdeveloped but the characters themselves are also really underdeveloped which makes it hard to buy into their romance as the characters personalities aren't clearly defined and the actors don't have romantic chemistry with each other with the two feeling like they had just met each other that day as opposed to a two people who are meant to be madly in love and what makes things worse is the fact that the romance angle goes nowhere which means that it was a pointless thing to be included in the final cut of the film as it's something that could have been left out of the film entirely and nothing really regarding the films actual plot would have been effected in the slightest.
For some reason the makers of this film chose to give the film a FOURTEEN AND A HALF MINUET prologue at the start of the movie. This really didn't need to be the case as you could have covered Sheena's origin story for this film in alot less time then that with the rest of scenes being flashback scenes spread out during the the rest of the film but the fact that they included them all at the start of the movie to me just feels like padding as those scenes really do add nothing to the overall plot of the movie apart from telling us who this version of the Sheena character even is in the first place and that one explanation doesn't need almost fifteen minuets if build up in order to do it justice all it needs is a few scenes and that's really it.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty six minuets and twenty one seconds. This was such a long time for this film to last as it really doesn't have alot there interms of plot to cover that long of running time on top of that this film really doesn't need to almost two hours long as what little plot it does have could very easily be told in hour and thirty minuets and all of this would mean loosing nothing that's actually important to the actual plot of the movie as all you'd have to do is cut down the really long prologue scene down by quite alot and removing alot of the scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the film this film really isn't helped by the fact that this film really does have some really bad pacing to it.
So now then as this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual actin that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. However that's also the issue as this films action isn't all that good as there's nothing really exciting happening in this film action which mostly consists of our heroes running away from the villains and this isn't helped by the fact that there really isn't that much action to be found in this film in the first place which means that we are left with an action film where the action in it can be only be best described as being OK and that sadly isn't good enough for an action film at best in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film was such a boring film that I wouldn't blame anyone if they said that they didn't like this film as it really is just that bad of a film with the film itself deserving it's obscure status in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the and things that are in this very film in this very review ad as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 4.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the mages that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official DC Extended Universe fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images this film being Google Images this is because all of the images that I got and that currently up / featured and on the great Google Images are all being really fairly high in quality and as well as them all really being fairly high in definition.
