Mothra Vs. Godzilla 1964 Film Review

The king of the monsters has fought many foes over his fifty plus year film career from King Kong to Ghidorah. However there is one monster that people seem to forget that has also thought the king of the monsters not once but twice and it's the first of those films that I want to talk about today as it really is an important film in the film legacy of Godzilla and so then join me as I review the film that sees the king of the monsters get taken out in the weakest way possible with the film in question being called simply just "Mothra Vs Godzilla" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when a greedy business man buys a giant egg from some villagers after it washes up on shore and Godzilla suddenly comes back back it's up to Mothra to defeat Godzilla and rescue her giant egg. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty the films weakest aspect as while it is a good plot it was just a plot that recycled from the first Mothra movie with noting new added to it but it was still a very entertaining plot to see play out in this film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Akira Takarada as Ichiro Sakai , Yuriko Hoshi as Junko Nakanishi and Hiroshi Koizumi as Professor Shunsuke Miura. Also starring in this film is Yū Fujiki as Jiro Nakamura , Emi and Yumi Itō as The Shobijin , Kenji Sahara as Jiro Torahata , Jun Tazaki as Maruta , Yoshifumi Tajima as Kumayama , Akira Tani as Amimoto , Ikio Sawamura as A Kannushi and Haruo Nakajima as Godzilla.

Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With all of this films cast members turning in some really good performances which shouldn't be all that surprising as this films script is really good and so all the cast have to do is just the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally.

The Shobijin's part in this film is the exact same part that they played in the previous Mothra movie in that they find themselves being pursued by the films villain before somehow returning to Mothra to set up the rest of the film. Which just seems lazy to me as the makers of this film openly chose to repeat this plotline so early on after creating the characters when they could have put in the effort to come up with a new plot for these characters instead of choosing to repeat a plotline that we've just seen just one film prior this is a shame as there are so many plotlines that they really could or even should have done with these characters and yet they chose to do one that we've just seen them do in the previous Mothra movie.

This was something that I legit didn't know but I really should have have known it but this is only the second film to feature Mothra. With her only other film prior to this one being her solo film and it really does say something that there having her take on take Godzilla so early on in her career as by this point Godzilla was well on his way to becoming a cultural icon and not alot of people would have known who Mothra even was and it also expands the world of Godzilla as it now says that the Mothra film is now canon in the world of Godzilla which makes this universe feel alot more three dimensional and pretty much an early example of a Cinematic Universe.

As for what I felt about the films human characters I really didn't mind this films human characters as there weren't really annoying. This is also helped by the fact that this films human characters were for the most part really well written but at the same time tho they dd take up a little bit to much of the screen time which would have been fine if this film was over two hours long but it's not and so the human characters should have had there screen time cut down a little bit in order to make room for more monster smashing mayhem as that's what the audience wants to really does want to see in a monster movie.

Speaking of this films human characters this film was shockingly more bloody then what I remember it being. With this film showing human characters openly bleeding ad the main villain not only shooting and killing someone at pointblank range but also showing this films getting crushed to death by Godzilla this is something that alot of the more recent Godzilla films would stay away from in order to reach the largest film audience as possible and as a result of that we don't get the incredibly dark and often violent scenes that made the Godzilla films famous in the first place.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and twenty eight minuets and thirty four seconds. Which if memory serves me correctly is pretty much the bogstanderd running time for a sixties Godzilla movie and to this films credit it doesn't waste that much time introducing the titular monsters ad Mothra is introduced within the the first twenty minuets and Godzilla is introduced into the film but the forty minuet mark and while waiting that long to see them fight is a bit of an issue to me it's one that works to this films advantage as it gives us a chance to see Mothra forming a connection with this films human cast and I will admit that this film does have some pretty good pacing to it as well.

So now then as this is an action film that means that I have talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was really good for the most part. As all of the monster destruction is really good to look at but at the same time they commit a huge sin by having Godzilla come out of the film looking weak as it's basically some string that defeats him in this film that just isn't epic enough for this film and it's final action scene to have that kind of an ending to just makes Godzilla look really weak in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this is a really good Godzilla film that is also the final film in which Godzilla himself is presented as the antagonist but it's how the film defeats Godzilla that really does let this film down quite alot in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7.5 out of 10 from me.

Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Godzilla fandom wiki page , Wikizilla and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very / particular / exact film being Wikizilla since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still indeed up on Wikizilla are all really fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being fairly freaking high in definition.
