Alice Through The Looking Glass 2016 Film Review
For better or for worse we all remember the 2010 live action remake of Alice In Wonderland a film that you could argue kick started the live action Disney remake trend that we all mostly hate. Well what you might not remember is that film spawned a sequel and I wouldn't blame you if you don't remember this film as this film just came and went with very little to know fanfare and so then join me as I review the film that has as much to do with the book Alice Through The Looking Glass as the Alice In Wonderland has t do with the book Alice's Adventures In Wonderland with the film in question being called simply just "Alice Through The Looking Glass" enjoy.
The plot of this film when Alice travels backwards in time to save the hatters family she uncovers something which will change Wonderland forever. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty pretty bad as it wasn't fun and it wasn't creative in the slightest with the film being a tired mess of a plot that lacks any sort of originality and entertainment value in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter , Mia Wasikowska as Alice Kingsleigh and Anne Hathaway as Mirana / White Queen. Also starring in this film is Helena Bonham Carter as Iracebeth / Red Queen , Sacha Baron Cohen as Time , Leo Bill as Hamish Ascot , Matt Lucas as Tweedledee and Tweedledum , Rhys Ifans as Zanik Hightopp , Lindsay Duncan as Helen Kingsleigh , Geraldine James as Lady Ascot , Alan Rickman as The Voice Of Absolem The Butterfly , Sir Stephen Fry as The Voice Of Cheshire , Michael Sheen as The Voice Of Nivens McTwisp / White Rabbit , Timothy Spall as The Voice Of Bayard Hamar / Bloodhound , the late Dame Barbara Windsor as The Voice Of Mallymkun The Dormouse and Matt Vogel as The Voice Of Wilkins , Paul Whitehouse as The Voice Of Thackery Earwicket / March Hare and the late Andrew Sachs as The Voice Of the Mantel Clock.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that good. Granted the acting from Mia Wasikowska is alot better in this film then it was in the first film but one good performance doesn't save the overall quality of the acting which in this case is simply due to the films script being bad as why they did manage to give Alice a personality in this film they robbed all of the other characters of their personalities and so they can't really turn in that good of a performance as this films script just won't allow for it and that is something that really does effect the overall quality of the acting in this film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Sony Pictures Imageworks , Yannix , Basilic Fly Studio , Imageloom Visual Effects , Cantina Creative , Double Negative and Bossvfxstudio. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films CGI more then holding up all these later and is really miles better then the CGI that what was given to us in the first film,
The first film despite all of it's faults it was at least very visually interesting with the opposite being true for this film. With this film just looking far to safe and marketable where as with the first film while Wonderland looked dull it at least looked visually interesting and that made it stand out from all of the other adaptations out their and while the Wonderland in this film looks more like the books it just looks to safe with it lacking the insanity that you'd expect from a world where insanity is the only thing that's sane and while this films Wonderland does have alot of color to it given that this is a sequel they should have made it look more closer to the Tim Burton film just retain some sort of continuity between the two films visually.
While the first film was more of an adaptation of Alice Through The Looking Glass then it was Alice's Adventures In Wonderland. That meant that this film despite borrowing the same title as the book can't adapt Through The Looking Glass because Tim Burton already did it which just goes to show that these films adapted the wrongs books as you could have given us a more faithful and crazy take on both worlds but they instead chose to give us a film that adapts the wrong book and a follow up film that now has to make up it's own story as it now can't adapt the book that it's named after which wouldn't be a bad thing if there was a third book but there wasn't as author Lewis Carroll didn't write any more stories for these characters after the Through The Looking Glass novel was released all the way back in 1871.
You'd think for an Alice that Alice herself would be the films main character however you'd be wrong as the main characters in this film are The Red Queen , The White Queen and The Mad Hatter. With Alice feeling more like a side character in her own movie as it's those three characters that get all of the character development and the plot is quite literally about all of three of them with Alice having nothing to do with the actual plot of the film and while you couldn't remove the Alice character all together you could very easily cut down her scenes and not loose all that much that's actually important to the plot as that's just how inconsequential Alice is to the plot of this movie.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and fifty eight minuets and one second. Which is a huge issue for this film as this film really doesn't have alot their interms of either plot or story to cover that large amount of running time with this film stretching it's already thin story even thinner by adding in a surprise third act finale which really didn't need to be in this movie at all as it really adds nothing the film and feels at odds with the rest of the film and just felt like padding and nothing more but I will admit that this film does have some really good pacing to it tho.
So now then since there is some action in this film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. As this films action was really well built up with the films first final battle set in the past actually playing a huge part in the films story which as I just said is something that just isn't true for the films second third act final battle which while impressive really adds nothing to the overall plot of the film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this film is just as bad as they say that is with the film just being rather bland and forgettable at the best of the times and while they did fix some issues from the first film they also created several more issues as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film n this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 4.5 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Disney fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very film being obviously the official Disney fandom wiki page since really alot of this films images that are really from this very film and that are all currently still up and of course still on the great the official Disney fandom wiki page and all of the images are all really fairly freaking high in picture quality and as well as them all really being really fairly freaking high in definition.
