The Little Mermaid 2023 Film SPOILER FILLED Film Review
Disney for some strange reason seems to think that we actually like their live action remakes when infact alot of people myself included don't like them. Well now we have yet another brand new Disney live action remake to add to this sadly every growing list and this one seems to follow the trend of all of the really bad Disney live action remakes and so then join me as I review the film that will really be very quickly forgotten about with the film in question being called simply just "The Little Mermaid" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when mermaid Ariel falls in love with a human she has just three days to win his heart before she is turned back into mermaid forever. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt abut the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad but at the same time it was just a carbon copy of the original films plot but with all of the heart sucked out of it for no apparent reason in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is singer Halle Bailey as Ariel , Jonah Hauer-King as Eric and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Also starring in this film is Jessica Alexander as Vanessa , Javier Bardem as King Triton , Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina , Art Malik as Sir Grimsby , Daveed Diggs as The Voice Of Sebastian , Jacob Tremblay as The Voice Of Flounder , Martina Laird as Lashana and singer and writer Awkwafina as The Voice Of Scuttle.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty OK at best. With both Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy turning in solid performances but everybody else just turns in these rather bland performances and that does effect the overall quality of the acting in this film.
Doing the CGI for this film is Moving Picture Company , Framestore , Industrial Light & Magic , Union Visual Effects and Vitality Visual Effects. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad altho the character designs for Scuttle , Flounder and Sebastian were all really off putting with the film taking a Lion King 2019 approach by making the animals more realistic and like The Lion King 201 that then strips away any and all emotion from all of those characters.
SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!
As is to be expected there were some changes made to the film with Tritons daughters now not being singers but instead being what can only be described as environment warriors. As they don't sing a song in this movie and are far more concerned with there own environment but that's not the only change tho as the biggest change in the whole entire movie comes in the movies third act where instead of Eric driving the boat into Ursula it's now Ariel that rives the boat into Ursula and this is a change that I hate as it makes no sense as to how Ariel a person who has lives under the sea for her whole entire life would know how tom steer a ship and plus it now means that Eric has nothing to do where as in the 1989 film they both worked in the parts that they both known the best Ariel in the sea and Eric on the land.
This film is of course a musical with the 1989 original film songs being written by Howard Ashman and this films composer Alan Menken and this films three new songs all being written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The new songs are a very mixed bag for me personally as there are some good ones like "For the First Time" but then we get a song like "The Scuttlebutt" which is just horrendous but I will admit that oddly enough the best song in this movie isn't Part Of Your World but is instead "Poor Unfortunate Souls" with Melissa McCarthy being a shockingly good singer and I will admit that Halle Bailey does sing all of her songs really well as well.
For some strange reason this film chose to include any scene of King Triton showing remorse for destroying Ariels treasures something which the original film did. This one little change makes Triton come of as a bad and heartless father where as in the original film we saw straight way that he regretted doing it thus making him seem more like a kind father who is just trying to do the best that he can where as this films version of the character possesses none of those qualities and so when he does come to Ariel's aid near the end of the film it comes out of nowhere and it seems very out of character for this version of the character.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and six minuets and fifty four seconds. Which means that once again this film continues the tradition of making the love action version so much longer then the animated version and once again this film is padded out with scenes that add nothing to the overall plot of the film and plus the three new songs with only "For the First Time" being the only one that advances the plot really in some way shape or form and this film really isn't helped all that much by the fact that this film really does have some pretty bad pacing to it as well.
So now then since this is a comedy that means that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty pretty bad. As all of the charming jokes in the original are hear replaced with jokes that aren't charming and more importantly aren't all that funny and while there might some jokes that will get a smile out of people those are very few and really far between with "Under The Sea" loosing everything that made that musical very fun and charming in the original film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
SPOILERS END HERE!!!!!!!!!!
Overall I went into this film wanting it to be good but sadly just like with Beauty And The Beast 2017 and The Lion King 2019 this film just repeats stuff from the original film only with none of the heart and like the other two movies this film will be forgotten about whilst the original film will remain a timeless classic in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 6 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from the official Disney fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very / particular / exact film being the official Disney fandom wiki page since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still indeed up on the official Disney fandom wiki page are all fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being fairly freaking high in definition.
