Arrietty Film UK Dub Film Review
Studio Ghibli is perhaps one of if the not the best anime studio out their with their work always being beautiful. However with all of the great films that they've released out their it's understandable that one or two would fall threw the cracks and well then the film that i'm about to review for you all today might just be one such a film and so then join me as I review the film that for some strange reason has not one but two English language dubs for it with the film in question being called simply just "Arrietty" enjoy.
The plot of this film is The Clock family are four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family's residence borrowing simple items to make their home. Life changes for the Clocks when their teenage daughter Arrietty is discovered by a human being. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty rather thin at best since it was hard to make out what the actual plot of this film is but with that being said when this plot does decide to show itself it is really a very entertaining plot in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Mary Queen of Scots and Hanna star Saoirse Ronan as Arrietty , future Spider-Man actor Tom Holland as Shō and Hot Fuzz and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish star Olivia Colman as Homily. Also starring in this film is Green Lantern , Kingsman , Kick-Ass and Shazam star Mark Strong as Pod , Geraldine McEwan as Haru , Luke Allen-Gale as Spiller and Phyllida Law as Sadako Maki.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad with this dubs voice cast having voices that better suit the characters then the American voice casts voices do and plus this dub cast turn in some really good performances as well which given who is starring in this dubbed version of the movie isn't all that surprising as these are a bunch of really good actors and actresses.
Doing the animation for this film is of course the legends and the greats that currently over at Studio Ghibli. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual animation that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films animation holding nearly fifteen years later and still looks just as good as it did when this film was first released all the way back in 2010.
The one word that I can use to describe this film is whimsical because everything about this film is just very whimsical. From the music all the way to the backgrounds it's a very whimsical film and that was something that I really loved about this film as it made the film alot more charming then what I could have been heck even Arrietty's first "borrowing" you could argue is full to the brim of whimsy which worked really well for that part of the movie as that is the first time she's seeing her father be a hero type of character.
One of the things that really didn't work for me is the fact that Haru has no reason for hating on our hero family. Which just makes her come across as being a rather weak villain as we don't want to see her reach her goals and half of the time she's presented to us as this rather comedic villain and so when she is being serious it comes out of character and it just doesn't work all that well with the characters more comedic moments all of which add up to her being a really rather forgettable and unremarkable villain.
Another thing that I really didn't like about the film was the fact that Sho and Arrietty's friendship really does come out of nowhere. With there being no build up or even showing that Arrietty is starting to trust Sho and given that there friendship is a key plot point in the whole entire film this is something that should have been given alot more time and effort dedicated to showing them becoming friends instead of it coming out of nowhere as that really does a disservice to not only the film but also the characters as well.
Now then I cannot for the absolutely live of me remember this films grand total exact running time but I do know that this film has / had an exact grand total running time of roughly one hour and thirty three minuets. Which is a bit on the short side for this film to last as you very easily could have gotten this film up to one hour and forty minuets just by giving us scenes of Arrietty starting to trust Sho and developing their relationship alot better then what it is in the final cut of the film and while this film does have some really good pacing as it is by stretching this film out a bit longer you wouldn't need to effect the overall pacing of the film either.
So now then since this is a drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual drama that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With this films drama mainly coming from the fact that Arrietty was seen by Sho and showing how not only she but also her family deal with the fact that they might now have to move home but with that being said the drama with Haru did seem rather forced and not really needed in the grand scheme of things in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this was a really sweet film with this version of the film being the only dubbed version of the film that I will ever watch because of how homely and whimsical this version of the film is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very film earns itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com , the official Studio Ghibli fandom wiki page , the official Disney fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my personally preferred website to use to get images from this very / particular / exact film being obviously Google Images since alot of the images that are from this film and that are currently still indeed up on Google Images are all fairly freaking high in quality and as well as being really fairly freaking high in definition.
