Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Film Review
We are now living in an age were every single comic book under the sun is now getting a live action film adaptation. Well comic book fans it wasn't always like that as during the nineties and early two thousands there live action comic book movies were seen as box office poison well there's one film that's amongst many other films that dared to be an actually good comic book movie and so then join me as I review the film that is still the best representation of these characters in film with the film in question being called simply just "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" enjoy.
The plot of this film is when Splinter is kidnapped the turtles and their new friends April and Casey have to find their master and stop a crime wave being committed by The Foot Clan. Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good with this films plot being very well written and something is way mature then what it really had any right to be in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Starring in this film is Brian Tochi as The Voice Of Leonardo , Josh Pais as The Voice Of Raphael and Corey Feldman as Donatello. Also starring in this film is Robbie Rist as The Voice Of Michelangelo , Kevin Clash as The Voice Of Splinter , David McCharen as The Voice Oroku Saki / The Shredder , Michael McConnohie as The Voice Of Master Tatsu , Judith Hoag as April O'Neil , Elias Koteas as Casey Jones , Jay Patterson as Charles Pennington , Michael Turney as Danny Pennington , Raymond Serra as Sterns and Sam Rockwell as Head Thug.
Now then interms of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With the acting in this film being helped by the fact that the characters are so well defined and written that all the cast have to do is just say the words as they are written and good performance would come out naturally.
This film does borrow quite alot not only from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books abut also from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated TV series as well. With things like the names of the turtles , the turtles personalities , the color of each turtles banana , April's job and in this case the entire opening of the movie being ripped right out of the cartoon the film does also borrow from the comics with the films tone being something that would be right at home in the original comics and would feel out of place in the cartoon but here these really weird mishmash of ideas oddly works really well enough for this film and really well in this films favor as well.
Like I said earlier on in this very review this film is alot more mature then what it really had any right to be. With the film dealing with the turtles having to contemplate a future with their father this is something that no live action or animated turtles media would dare to touch these days for various reasons and yet here it's done in such a subtle way that you don't even realise that it's happening until it's already happened and when you do realise that it's happened hopefully you love because of how subtly done it was.
I have to admit that I really didn't like The Shredder or his costume in this film since his costume barely disguises who he is. With the character also being very badly written with him not really having an end goal in mind which means we have that apart them struggling to rescue Splinter we the audience have no reason to want the turtles to succeed in their mission because we don't know what the stakes are and while yes having big stakes could also work against the film here it was something that was needed as it could have made The Shredder seem all the more threatening then what he actually is.
Another thing that I didn't like was the romance between April and Casey which to me just felt forced and unneeded. It felt like the makers of this film were pressured into including a romance because Casey and April were the only two heroic human characters and so they had to give them a romance subplot just because that's what a lot of action from around this same time period did which is a shame because this version of April was written like she could have survived without having a romance subplot and Casey was written to be more of a loner type and not someone who will admit that he loves a girl the second he sees her.
Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty three minuets and twenty eight seconds. With this films running time being a very slight issue for me personally since this film really did a much longer running time just to flesh out the rest of the cast of characters more but at the same time this film really didn't have alot of story to cover a long running time and so stretching this film out even by twenty minuets would have been stretching this story even thinner then what it already is.
So now then since this is an action film that means that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this films action being nothing but pure fun and everything that you'd both expect and want to see in an action scene from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.
Overall this is such a fun and is a good example of just how good the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles could be in live action when they have the right creative behind them which sadly just wasn't the case for the two Micheal Bay produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good and as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that means that this very review earns itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.
Now then as for where I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review well then boys and girls and as well as ladies and gentlemen I personally got all of the images that I personally used in this very review from IMP Awards . Com, the official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fandom wiki page and Google Images. With my preferred website to use to get images from this film being the official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fandom wiki page just simply due to the fact that alot of the images that are on the official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fandom wiki page are all fairly high quality and as well as being fairly high definition.
